  • Taylor Walls 3B | TB

    Rays' Taylor Walls: Off Tuesday

Walls isn't starting Tuesday against the Cubs, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Walls has been in a cold spell at the plate recently, slashing just .152/.263/.212 over the past two weeks. Isaac Paredes will take over as Tampa Bay's third baseman Tuesday and bat sixth.

  • Jace Peterson SS | ARI

Athletics' Jace Peterson: Not starting Tuesday

Peterson isn't in the Athletics' lineup Tuesday against Atlanta.

Peterson will take off Tuesday after recording his first RBI in 11 games during Monday's contest. While Peterson sits, Jonah Bride will start at third base and bat seventh.

  • Josh Donaldson 3B | MIL

Yankees' Josh Donaldson: On track to return this weekend

Donaldson (hamstring) is tracking toward a return to the Yankees this weekend, Brendan Kuty of The Athletic reports.

Things had been pointing toward Donaldson's activation for the weekend series versus the Dodgers as long as all goes well on his rehab assignment, and the third baseman confirmed as much Tuesday. He's been sidelined since early April with a right hamstring strain, having encountered a couple setbacks along the way.

  • Tyler Nevin 3B | ATH

Tigers' Tyler Nevin: Summoned to majors

Nevin was recalled from Triple-A Toledo by the Tigers on Tuesday, Cody Stavenhagen of The Athletic reports.

Nevin has managed just two hits in 22 at-bats at the big-league level this season. He could play a bit at third base and/or the corner outfield spots against lefties.

  • Jonah Bride 3B | TEX

Athletics' Jonah Bride: Multi-hit effort in debut

Bride, recalled from Triple-A Las Vegas earlier in the day, went 2-for-3 with a run in a win over Atlanta on Monday.

Bride started at third base and carried over his momentum from his tenure with the Aviators, where he'd produced a blistering .308/.416/.577 slash line across 186 plate appearances. Bride limped to a .204 average and .548 OPS over his first 187 big-league plate appearances a season ago, but he's thrived offensively in his last three minor-league stints and should be given a long look on the non-contending A's.

  • Royce Lewis 3B | MIN

Twins' Royce Lewis: Sparks offense in season debut

Lewis went 2-for-5 with a three-run home run and an additional RBI in Monday's 7-5 win over Houston in 10 innings.

The 23-year-old turned in a scintillating 2023 major-league debut, which came exactly one year after he tore the ACL in his right knee for the second time in his career. Upon returning from the 60-day injured list, Lewis was installed as the Twins' starting third baseman and sparked the offense with a third-inning home run, then delivered a clutch game-tying RBI single with two outs in the ninth inning. Lewis is expected to settle in as the Twins' everyday third baseman, though the organization may be judicious with his usage early on coming off the major knee surgery.

  • Josh Donaldson 3B | MIL

Yankees' Josh Donaldson: Moving rehab to Double-A

Donaldson (hamstring) will play for Double-A Somerset on Tuesday, Gary Phillips of the New York Daily News reports.

Donaldson was initially sent out on a rehab assignment at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, but he'll now shift to Double-A after the team re-evaluated him Sunday. He'll likely see at-bats throughout the week before potentially being reinstated for the Yankees' upcoming weekend series against the Dodgers.

  • Anthony Rendon 3B | LAA

Angels' Anthony Rendon: Takes grounders Monday

Rendon (groin) threw in the outfield and fielded grounders Monday, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports.

Rendon was working out in the field for the first time since he suffered a left groin strain in mid-May. The veteran third baseman is being evaluated on a day-to-day basis and is not expected to go out on a rehab assignment, so while it's not clear exactly when he'll be activated from the 10-day injured list, it could be any day now.

  • Jake Burger 3B | TEX

White Sox's Jake Burger: Absent from lineup

Burger is not in the lineup for Monday's game against the Angels, Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

Eloy Jimenez has started in right field for each of his two games since returning from the injured list, but while Burger was at designated hitter Sunday, he'll begin this one on the bench. Andrew Vaughn will serve as the DH and Gavin Sheets will play first base.

  • Royce Lewis 3B | MIN

Twins' Royce Lewis: Won't play outfield this season

Lewis (knee), who is starting at third base and batting fifth in his season debut Monday in Houston, won't play the outfield this season, Dan Hayes of The Athletic reports.

Lewis was playing center field exactly one year ago when he tore the ACL in his right knee for the second time in his career. Though he experienced no complications in his recovery and recently wrapped up a productive 10-game minor-league rehab assignment before being activated from the 60-day injured list earlier Monday, the Twins won't take any chances with his health by having him play the outfield, at least in 2023. Lewis saw action at third base and shortstop during his rehab assignment but is expected to see the bulk of his opportunities at the former position while Carlos Correa is healthy.
