  • Royals' Michael Massey: Homers again Wednesday

Massey went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in Wednesday's 7-1 win over the White Sox.

Massey has homered three times over his last six games, driving in seven runs in that span. The second baseman has also collected just one other hit over that stretch while striking out eight times. He's up to 13 long balls, 51 RBI, 38 runs scored, six stolen bases and a .222/.268/.371 slash line through 116 contests this season. With the Royals in prospect evaluation mode, he may not see a full-time role for the remainder of the season, as Nick Loftin has also seen time at the keystone.

  • Nico Hoerner 2B | CHC

Cubs' Nico Hoerner: Tallies four hits in loss

Hoerner went 4-for-5 with a run scored in Wednesday's 7-3 loss to the Rockies. He also stole one base in two attempts.

All four of Hoerner's hits were singles, and despite reaching four times, he only came around to score once. He did, however, record his 40th stolen base of the year in 47 attempts. The steals have been the infielder's biggest source of fantasy value, and he's now doubled his total from 2022. Hoerner should keep running frequently as the Cubs try to chase down a playoff spot in the final weeks of the season.

  • Lenyn Sosa 2B | TOR

White Sox's Lenyn Sosa: Not starting Wednesday

Sosa is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Royals.

Sosa dominated the playing time at second base for Chicago in late August and early September, but veteran Elvis Andrus has taken on a larger number of starts lately. That's the case Wednesday, with Andrus manning the keystone and batting ninth.

  • Ronny Mauricio 2B | NYM

Mets' Ronny Mauricio: Out due to illness

Mauricio is out of the lineup Wednesday against the Diamondbacks because of an illness, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.

It sounds like a day-to-day situation for the talented 22-year-old infielder, who hit his first major-league homer in Tuesday's win over Arizona and boasts a .306/.342/.444 batting line through his first 38 big-league plate appearances. Jeff McNeil is playing second base for the Mets on Wednesday as Brandon Nimmo, Rafael Ortega and DJ Stewart start across the outfield.

  • Adam Frazier 2B | LAA

Orioles' Adam Frazier: Sits versus southpaw

Frazier is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game versus St. Louis.

Frazier started the previous three games and went 4-for-9 with a triple, a walk and three RBI, but he'll take a seat Wednesday against Cardinals lefty Drew Rom. Jordan Westburg will man the keystone while Gunnar Henderson handles third base and Jorge Mateo shortstop.

  • Brice Turang 2B | MIL

Brewers' Brice Turang: Takes seat versus lefty

Turang is not in the lineup Wednesday versus the Marlins.

Andruw Monasterio will play second base and serve as the Brewers' leadoff man as they match up against left-hander Braxton Garrett. Turang has batted just .182 with a .456 OPS in 62 plate appearances versus lefties this season.

  • Cavan Biggio RF | HOU

Blue Jays' Cavan Biggio: Not in Wednesday's lineup

Biggio is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Rangers.

Biggio has lately been filling the large side of a platoon at third base, so it's not a surprise he's sitting Wednesday with southpaw Jordan Montgomery pitching for Texas. Santiago Espinal will man the hot corner in Biggio's place and bat sixth.

  • Blue Jays' Whit Merrifield: Rejoins lineup Wednesday

Merrifield (groin) is starting in left field and batting fifth against the Rangers on Wednesday.

The 34-year-old sat out the previous two games with groin tightness but will return to the starting nine Wednesday versus Texas lefty Jordan Montgomery. Merrifield is mired in a 1-for-20 slump and has seen his playing time against right-handed pitchers slip, with Davis Schneider handling a larger role at second base.

  • Ronny Mauricio 2B | NYM

Mets' Ronny Mauricio: Takes seat Wednesday

Mauricio is absent from the lineup Wednesday versus the Diamondbacks.

Jeff McNeil will cover second base as Brandon Nimmo, Rafael Ortega and DJ Stewart start across the outfield. This is presumably a planned day of rest for Mauricio, who slugged his first major-league homer in the Mets' win over Arizona on Tuesday.

  • Nolan Gorman 2B | STL

Cardinals' Nolan Gorman: Lands on IL with hamstring strain

St. Louis placed Gorman on the 10-day injured list Wednesday with a Grade 2 right hamstring strain.

Gorman suffered the injury while legging out an infield single in Tuesday's win at Baltimore and could be in danger of missing the remainder of the 2023 campaign. The 23-year-old slugger holds an .805 OPS with 27 homers and 76 RBI through 119 games this season with the Cardinals, who have called up Juniel Querecuto from Triple-A Memphis in a corresponding roster move.
