Mets' Jeff McNeil: Back-to-back two-hit days

McNeil went 2-for-4 with a pair of base hits Tuesday in the Mets' 5-2 win over the Rays.

Since homering in four consecutive games earlier this month, McNeil's power output has tailed off, but he's continued to rack up hits atop the Mets lineup. He's already turned in 10 multi-hit performances in 20 September games, good for a .405 average on the month.

Diamondbacks' Ketel Marte: In lineup Wednesday

Marte will be in the starting lineup Wednesday, Steve Gilbert of MLB.com reports.

Marte was activated Tuesday after a stay on the injured list due to wrist inflammation and played second base in win over the Rangers. After Wednesday's game, the team will evaluate how he's feeling physically and whether he will play any innings in center field. The Diamondbacks are off Thursday before finishing off the season with four games against the Rockies, including a doubleheader Friday.

  • Josh Rojas 3B | CHW

Diamondbacks' Josh Rojas: Lands on IL

Rojas was placed on the injured list with lower-back inflammation Tuesday.

Rojas' placement on the IL cleared the way for Ketel Marte to be activated. The move ends Rojas' season after 70 plate appearances and a slash line of .180/.257/.180. There could be room for him on the roster as a super utility player in 2021, but a career .567 OPS mitigates the benefits of his versatility.

Diamondbacks' Ketel Marte: Goes 1-for-4 in return

Marte (wrist) went 1-for-4 in Tuesday's 7-0 win over the Rangers.

Marte hit a single in the fifth inning but couldn't come around to score. He played seven innings on defense before Josh VanMeter replaced him at second base in the blowout win. Marte has two homers, 14 RBI, 17 runs scored and a stolen base in 41 contests.

  • Josh Rojas 3B | CHW

Diamondbacks' Josh Rojas: Not starting Tuesday

Rojas (back) is not in the lineup for Tuesday's game against Texas.

Lower-back discomfort forced Rojas to leave Sunday's game against the Astros and will cost him at least one start. Ketel Marte returns from a wrist injury to start at second base.

Diamondbacks' Ketel Marte: Batting second in return

Marte (wrist) was activated from the 10-day injured list and is starting at second base and batting second Tuesday against the Rangers.

He ends up missing two weeks with the wrist injury. Marte is batting .290/.324/.407 with two home runs and one stolen base in 40 games this season. He should play regularly the rest of the way.

  • Andres Gimenez SS | TOR

Mets' Andres Gimenez: Sits for second straight

Gimenez remains on the bench Tuesday against Tampa Bay.

Gimenez has gone 3-for-19 at the plate over his last eight games. Amed Rosario remains the starter at shortstop in his absence.

  • Luis Urias 2B | ATH

Brewers' Luis Urias: Remains on bench

Urias sits for the third straight game Tuesday in Cincinnati.

There haven't been reports that Urias is injured, but it's no big surprise to see him benched. He's gone 1-for-20 at the plate in his last 10 games and is hitting just .240/.313/.298 on the season. Eric Sogard gets the nod at third base.

Diamondbacks' Ketel Marte: Expected back this week

Marte (wrist) is on target to return from the injured list during Arizona's final homestand, Nick PIecoro of the Arizona Republic reports.

Marte took batting practice this past weekend at the alternate training site and was scheduled to play in a simulated game Monday. Pending the outcome of Monday's sim game, Marte could return to Arizona's lineup at some point in the final six games.

  • Andres Gimenez SS | TOR

Mets' Andres Gimenez: Takes seat Monday

Gimenez isn't starting Monday's game against the Rays, Justin Toscano of The Bergen Record reports.

Gimenez has occupied the large half of a platoon at shortstop recently, but he'll retreat to the bench Monday, even with a right-hander (Pete Fairbanks) on the mound for Tampa Bay. Amed Rosario will start at shortstop in his absence.
