Jose Fermin LF | STL
Cardinals' Jose Fermin: Demoted with Arenado returning
The Cardinals optioned Fermin to Triple-A Memphis on Monday.
With St. Louis bringing back Nolan Arenado (shoulder) from the 10-day injured list, Fermin was an expendable piece in the Cardinals infield. After receiving a promotion from Memphis on Saturday, Fermin appeared in one of the Cardinals' final two games of the series in Milwaukee over the weekend, going 2-for-3 with an RBI and a stolen base.

Ildemaro Vargas 1B | ARI
Diamondbacks' Ildemaro Vargas: Steps in for injured teammate
Vargas replaced Blaze Alexander (elbow) at second base in the fourth inning Sunday and went 1-for-3 in a 6-4 win over Minnesota.
Alexander was removed from the game after getting hit by a pitch in the elbow/forearm area. Testing came back negative, but the elbow showed significant swelling, per Steve Gilbert of MLB.com. Vargas could benefit from any time Alexander misses, but second base is typically Ketel Marte's realm.

Nico Hoerner 2B | CHC
Cubs' Nico Hoerner: Sparks Cubs with three RBI
Hoerner went 2-for-4 with a double and three RBI in Sunday's 4-3 win over the Rays.
The infielder came up clutch for Chicago, driving in three of the team's four runs, beginning with an RBI single in the first inning to score leadoff-man Michael Busch. Hoerner later delivered the decisive blow in the seventh, lacing a two-run double that gave the Cubs a lead they wouldn't surrender. The 28-year-old has been a steady force at the plate of late, recording hits in 18 of his last 21 games, including 10 multi-hit efforts. Over that span, Hoerner is batting .354 with 10 RBI, 16 runs scored, nine doubles and four stolen bases across 91 plate appearances.

Jose Fermin LF | STL
Cardinals' Jose Fermin: Swipes base in win
Fermin went 2-for-3 with a stolen base and one RBI in Sunday's 3-2 win versus the Brewers.
The St. Louis infielder tallied his second steal of the season, taking second off Milwaukee starter Jose Quintana in the second inning. Fermin was subsequently caught stealing when trying to nab home later in the frame. Fermin, who is now slashing .298/.389/.404 in 55 total plate appearances, is in a bench role currently for the Cardinals. He could become an intriguing fantasy option for batting average and speed since he hit .305 with 20 steals in 289 Triple-A plate appearances this season.
