  • Padres' Sung-Mun Song: Swipes bag in win

Song went 1-for-3 with a walk, two RBI, one stolen base and one run scored in Saturday's 8-7 win over the Blue Jays. Song was in the lineup at third base for this contest while Manny Machado rested his legs as the designated hitter. Over nine games in July, Song has gone 6-for-27 (.222) with five steals and two extra-base hits. He's now batting .217 with a .605 OPS, one home run, 11 steals, 12 RBI and 13 runs scored across 95 plate appearances on the year. Song is likely to continue seeing a utility role in the infield.

  • Padres' Sung-Mun Song: Resting up Friday

Song isn't in the lineup for Friday's game against the Blue Jays. After going just 1-for-13 with an RBI and two runs scored in four games against the Diamondbacks, Song will take a seat to begin Friday's series opener against Toronto. Fernando Tatis will move to second base as a result, opening up right field for Jase Bowen.

  • Padres' Sung-Mun Song: Sitting in second straight

Song is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Brewers. After Jake Cronenworth was diagnosed with a concussion May 5 and placed on the 7-day injured list, Song had started at second base in five of the Friars' ensuing six games, but he'll cede the keystone to Fernando Tatis on Wednesday for the second day in a row. Since recording two hits in his first start, Song has gone 0-for-8 with a 2:4 BB:K, and his lack of production may have closed his window for handling an everyday role while Cronenworth is shelved.

  • Padres' Sung-Mun Song: Plates two, swipes bag in win

Song went 2-for-4 with a double, two RBI, a stolen base and two runs scored in Tuesday's 10-5 win over the Giants. Song logged his first career plate appearances in this contest, and he delivered a good performance. The 29-year-old infielder looks to be part of the mix to cover second base in the absence of Jake Cronenworth (concussion), whose placement on the 7-day injured list opened up the roster spot for Song to get promoted. Fernando Tatis is also a candidate to see time at the keystone in Cronenworth's absence, but Song could make a strong case for himself if he strings together a few good games at the plate.

  • Padres' Sung-Mun Song: Rejoins big club

The Padres called up Song from Triple-A El Paso on Tuesday, AJ Cassavell of MLB.com reports. Song's promotion comes as a corresponding move to the Padres placing Jake Cronenworth on the seven-day concussion injured list Tuesday. Since being optioned to Triple-A El Paso on April 27, Song has slashed .292/.346/.458 with a home run, three RBI and a stolen base across 26 plate appearances in five games.

  • Padres' Sung-Mun Song: Up as 27th man

The Padres recalled Song from Triple-A El Paso on Saturday. The Padres will be allowed to carry a 27th man on their roster during the Mexico City Series against Arizona, so Song will join the big club to provide extra infield depth. The 29-year-old has slashed .293/.369/.320 with 12 RBI and nine runs scored through 20 Triple-A games and will be making his MLB debut if he gets into a game this weekend.

  • Padres' Sung-Mun Song: Activated, optioned to Triple-A

The Padres reinstated Song (oblique) from the injured list Thursday and optioned him to Triple-A El Paso. Song landed on the injured list at the start of the regular season due to a right oblique strain but has been playing rehab games with El Paso since March 27. He's slashed .276/.364/.310 with 10 RBI and seven runs scored across 16 games during his assignment and will officially remain in the minors now that he's fully healthy.

  • Padres' Sung-Mun Song: Officially placed on IL

The Padres placed Song (oblique) on the 10-day injured list Wednesday. Song remains on the mend from the right oblique strain that he aggravated in March. He'll open the season on the IL and can make his MLB debut as soon as April 1, but MLB.com relays that he's trending toward a mid-April return. Song was able to play in a minor-league game on the back fields of camp this past Sunday, so he could be ready to begin a rehab assignment at Triple-A El Paso when the season gets underway this weekend.

  • Padres' Sung-Mun Song: Aggravates oblique

Song was removed from Thursday's Cactus League game against the Mariners with right oblique tightness, AJ Cassavell of MLB.com reports. Manager Craig Stammen said after Thursday's contest that Song's removal was precautionary, as the Padres didn't want to risk further damage to the 29-year-old's oblique, which he originally injured in January. Song may take a break from Cactus League action for a couple days, but his Opening Day availability doesn't currently seem to be at risk.
