    Brewers' Joey Ortiz: Role diminishing

Ortiz is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Pirates.

After starting at shortstop in 14 of Milwaukee's first 18 games of the season, Ortiz is on the bench Sunday for the fifth time in the past nine contests. David Hamilton has seen more action at shortstop as a result, creating more opportunities at third base for Luis Rengifo. Ortiz had a .593 OPS in 149 regular-season games last year and has a .180/.265/.180 slash line through 70 plate appearances this season, and that lack of offensive production is affecting his playing time.

  • Nasim Nunez 2B | WAS

Nationals' Nasim Nunez: Collects four RBI on Saturday

Nunez went 2-for-4 with four RBI, a walk and a stolen base in Saturday's 6-3 extra-inning win over the White Sox.

The 25-year-old middle infielder established a season high in RBI, which also matched a career best. However, Nunez is likely to remain strictly a fantasy streamer for stolen bases going forward -- he's slashing a pitiful .195/.298/.207 with one extra-base hit, 10 RBI and 12 runs scored over 96 plate appearances but does rank first in the major leagues with 12 steals.

  • Luis Arraez 2B | SF

Giants' Luis Arraez: Posts another steal

Arraez went 3-for-5 with one RBI and a stolen base in Friday's 9-4 loss to the Marlins.

Arraez is up to four steals on the year, including two over the last two games. He's doing his usual work as a reliable contact hitter, batting .320 with a .723 OPS through his first 25 games as a Giant. The infielder has added seven RBI, 11 runs scored, one double and two triples across 106 plate appearances, but he hasn't hit a home run yet this season.

  • Xavier Edwards 2B | MIA

Marlins' Xavier Edwards: Logs three hits, steal

Edwards went 3-for-4 with a double, a walk, a stolen base, one RBI and one run scored in Friday's 9-4 win over the Giants.

Edwards saw a six-game hitting streak end Wednesday against the Cardinals, but he bounced back well. The steal was his first since April 5. The second baseman logged 27 steals on 34 attempts across 139 games in 2025, but he's just 3-for-4 on the basepaths over 26 contests in 2026. Edwards has made up for the lack of running with reliable hitting -- he's batting .347 with a .909 OPS, one home run, eight RBI, 19 runs scored, six doubles and two triples across 113 plate appearances. There's not a lot of power in his swing, but he has strong plate discipline and the potential to make a larger impact with his speed as the season progresses.

  • Connor Norby 1B | MIA

Marlins' Connor Norby: Lifts three-run homer

Norby went 1-for-5 with a three-run home run in Friday's 9-4 win over the Giants.

Norby stretched the Marlins' lead to 8-0 in the fourth inning with his blast off Adrian Houser. This was Norby's first homer since April 13. The infielder is batting .244 with a .756 OPS, three long balls, 10 RBI, seven runs scored, five doubles and no stolen bases over 90 plate appearances this season. Norby has operated as the Marlins' primary first baseman lately, though that could change once Christopher Morel (oblique) is activated from the injured list.

  • Hye Seong Kim SS | LAD

Dodgers' Hyeseong Kim: Swipes fifth bag

Kim went 2-for-3 with one RBI, a stolen base and one run scored in Friday's 6-4 loss to the Cubs.

Kim logged a steal for the second game in a row. This was his third multi-hit effort over his last six games. The infielder has hit .351 with a .918 OPS, one home run, six RBI, six runs scored, two doubles and five steals on six attempts across 44 plate appearances this season. Once Mookie Betts (oblique) returns, Kim may settle into a utility role, though he could be able to push Alex Freeland into a platoon role at second base.

  • Nick Gonzales 3B | PIT

Pirates' Nick Gonzales: Taking back playing time

Gonzales went 1-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored Friday against the Brewers.

Gonzales was briefly overtaken by Nick Yorke for playing time in mid-April, but Gonzales started his fifth consecutive game Friday -- the last three of which have come at third base. He drove in a run in the fourth inning with an RBI single, and he later scored a run after reaching base on an error. Gonzales has tallied at least one hit in each of his last five starts and has gone 8-for-19 with two RBI, three runs scored and a stolen base in that span.

  • Scott Kingery 2B | CHC

Cubs' Scott Kingery: Designated for assignment

The Cubs designated Kingery for assignment Friday.

Kingery won a spot on the Cubs' bench out of spring training but has since appeared in just eight games while going 1-for-4 at the plate and tallying two runs and a steal. He'll be pushed off the active roster in favor of Nicky Lopez, whose contract was selected from Triple-A in a corresponding move.

  • Joseph Ortiz SS | MIL

Brewers' Joey Ortiz: Sitting down Friday

Ortiz isn't in the lineup for Friday's game against the Pirates.

Ortiz will get a day to rest after snapping his six-game hitless streak with his single against the Tigers on Thursday. David Hamilton will start at shortstop Friday while Luis Rengifo mans the hot corner.

  • Edouard Julien 2B | COL

Rockies' Edouard Julien: Grabbing seat Friday

Julien is not in the lineup for Friday's contest versus the Mets.

Julien went 7-for-23 with five RBI and four runs scored during the Rockies' recent six-game homestand, but he will get a breather Friday as the team begins a road trip. Tyler Freeman is handling second base and batting cleanup.
