  • Luis Garcia 1B | WAS

Nationals' Luis Garcia: Returning to majors

Garcia is expected to be recalled from Triple-A Rochester ahead of Friday's series opener against the Dodgers, Jesse Dougherty of The Washington Post reports.

Garcia has slashed just .268/.315/.381 with one homer and two steals in 25 games since being demoted to Triple-A in early August, but the Nationals will give him another major-league opportunity as they look ahead to 2024 and beyond. Jake Alu has been getting most of the starts at second base in recent weeks, but he could shift more into an outfield role as the Nats deal with injuries in that area of the depth chart.

  • Taylor Motter 2B | STL

Cardinals' Taylor Motter: Outrighted to Triple-A

Motter cleared waivers and was outrighted to Triple-A Memphis on Wednesday.

Motter could elect free agency if he wants since this is the third time he's been outrighted this season, but it would appear he's opted to remain in the Cardinals organization. The 33-year-old will provide utility player depth at Triple-A.

  • Nolan Gorman 3B | STL

Cardinals' Nolan Gorman: Knocks another homer

Gorman went 1-for-4 with a three-run home run, a walk, a stolen base and three total runs in an 11-6 win against Atlanta on Wednesday.

After snapping a 16-game homer drought with a pair of long balls Tuesday, Gorman went deep again Wednesday, smashing a 414-foot, three-run shot in the eighth inning to cap a big offensive night by the Cardinals. Prior to the two-game power surge, Gorman had been struggling mightily, batting .169 with a 40.6 percent strikeout rate since the start of August. The punchouts haven't gone away -- Gorman has six over his past three contests -- but it's hard to complain about those since he's knocked in eight runs over that stretch.

  • Ronny Mauricio SS | NYM

Mets' Ronny Mauricio: Extends hot start

Mauricio went 2-for-4 with a stolen base in a loss to the Nationals on Wednesday.

Mauricio extended his hitting streak to five games to begin his career with a second-inning single, which he promptly followed with a stolen base. The rookie added another single in the sixth for his third multi-hit performance. Mauricio has yet go deep in the majors, but he's otherwise been impressive with a .421/.421/.474 slash line and three thefts through 19 plate appearances.

  • Luis Guillorme 3B | HOU

Mets' Luis Guillorme: Set for rehab assignment

Guillorme (calf) is scheduled to begin a rehab assignment Friday with High-A Brooklyn, Tim Healey of Newsday reports.

Guillorme has been out since late July because of a Grade 2 strain of his right calf, but he began a running program in late August and has responded well over the last few weeks. The 28-year-old utility man was batting .238/.304/.347 through 50 games this year for the Mets prior to his lengthy IL stint.

  • Xavier Edwards 2B | MIA

Marlins' Xavier Edwards: Garners start at second base

Edwards is starting at second base and batting seventh in Wednesday's game versus the Dodgers, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.

Edwards will handle the keystone for this one while Luis Arraez slides over to play first base and Josh Bell serves as the designated hitter. The speedy Edwards has fared well during his brief time in the majors this season, posting an .815 OPS with one stolen base in 11 games.

  • Ozzie Albies 2B | ATL

Braves' Ozzie Albies: Slugs 29th homer

Albies went 2-for-5 with a solo home run in Tuesday's 10-6 loss to the Cardinals.

The second baseman took Miles Mikolas deep in the first inning, one of four Atlanta homers on the night, but all four were solo shots. It's Albies' first long ball since returning from the IL in late August, giving him 29 on the season, but he's been locked in at the plate lately, batting .407 (11-for-27) over a six-game hitting streak.

  • Nolan Gorman 3B | STL

Cardinals' Nolan Gorman: Goes yard twice Tuesday

Gorman went 2-for-5 with two home runs and three RBI in Tuesday's 10-6 win over Atlanta.

A two-run blast in the third inning off Michael Soroka was followed by a solo shot in the ninth off Michael Tonkin, as Gorman snapped a 16-game homer drought that extended back to Aug, 4. In nine contests since recovering from a back issue and being activated off the IL, Gorman's batting just .133 (4-for-30) with 17 strikeouts, but three of his four hits and five of his six RBI during that stretch have come in the last two games.

  • Ronny Mauricio SS | NYM

Mets' Ronny Mauricio: Drives in first run

Mauricio went 1-for-4 with an RBI in Tuesday's 11-5 win over the Nationals.

The 22-year-old had the least impressive night of the four Mets rookies in the lineup, but his two-out single in the eighth inning gave Mauricio his first career RBI. He's gone an impressive 6-for-15 (.400) in four games since his promotion with a double and two steals, and Mauricio figures to be a fixture at second base for New York over the final month of the season.

  • Reds' Jonathan India: Rehab could begin Friday

India (foot) could begin a rehab assignment at Triple-A Louisville on Friday, if he continues on a positive path, MLB.com reports.

India's left foot is pain free, but the Reds are taking a deliberate approach in building up the infielder to avoid a setback that could end his season prematurely. If he begins the rehab assignment this weekend as hoped, he could return from the 10-day injured list as soon as Sept. 12.
