  • Tigers' Ronny Rodriguez: Takes seat Tuesday

Rodriguez is not starting Tuesday against Baltimore.

Rodriguez has gone hitless in his last five contests and is hitting 4-for-41 with 22 strikeouts over his last 11 games. Gordon Beckham will start at shortstop.

  • Cavan Biggio RF | HOU

Blue Jays' Cavan Biggio: Out of lineup

Biggio is not starting Tuesday against Tampa Bay.

Biggio started four straight games after getting his first major-league callup Friday. He went hitless in three of those games but went 3-for-4 with a homer in the other. Eric Sogard gets the start at second base.

  • Brandon Lowe 2B | PIT

Rays' Brandon Lowe: Heads to bench

Lowe is not starting Tuesday against Toronto.

Lowe has gone 2-for-14 at the plate over his last four games. Andrew Velasquez gets the start at second base.

  • Michael Chavis 2B | CIN

Red Sox's Michael Chavis: Starts at first base

Chavis started at first base Monday with Mitch Moreland (knee) unavailable. He went 2-for-3 with a walk and was hit by a pitch in a 12-5 win over the Indians.

Chavis has been the regular second baseman while Dustin Pedroia (knee), Brock Holt (shoulder) and Eduardo Nunez (back) all served time on the injured list. Both Holt and Nunez are back, but Chavis has done enough that manager Alex Cora wants to keep his bat in the lineup. He's played first base and third base in the minors, but may end up being the primary second baseman.

  • Jack Mayfield 2B | LAA

Astros' Jack Mayfield: Makes MLB debut

Mayfield started at second base and went 1-for-4 with a double and an RBI in Monday's 6-5 win over the Cubs.

Mayfield was called up Monday after Aledmys Diaz (hamstring) landed on the injured list and made his MLB debut. The 28-year-old Mayfield is expected to be around until Jose Altuve (hamstring) returns from his rehab assignment. Manager AJ Hinch said Altuve is not coming back to the team Tuesday, so Mayfield could get another look at the keystone.

  • Jose Altuve 2B | HOU

Astros' Jose Altuve: Not coming back Tuesday

Manager AJ Hinch said Altuve (hamstring) will not rejoin the Astros on Tuesday, Chandler Rome of the Houston Chronicle reports.

Altuve made his second rehab start Monday, singling in four plate appearances, and is feeling better, per the manager. With Aledmys Diaz (hamstring) landing on the injured list, the Astros are thin at second base but not so much that Hinch will rush Altuve back.

  • Luis Arraez 2B | SF

Twins' Luis Arraez: Swipes first bag

Arraez went 1-for-2 with a walk, an RBI and a stolen base Monday against Milwaukee.

Arraez knocked in the game's first run during the second inning on a single to center field. Since making his major-league debut in mid-May, the 22-year-old is 8-for-20 with a home run and three RBI in nine games.

  • Blue Jays' Brandon Drury: Out of lineup

Drury is not starting Monday against the Rays.

Drury finds himself on the bench for the second time in three games. Randal Grichuk starts in right field.

  • Jack Mayfield 2B | LAA

Astros' Jack Mayfield: Getting the call

Mayfield will be called up from Triple-A Round Rock, Jake Kaplan of The Athletic reports.

Mayfield is being called up as insurance for the Astros' banged-up middle infield, with Aledmys Diaz (hamstring) likely heading to the injured list and Jose Altuve (hamstring) working his way back to the team on a rehab assignment. This will be Mayfield's first experience with a major-league club, and he could earn starts at second base depending on the length of Altuve's rehab assignment. He has experience playing at second base, shortstop and third base and is hitting .283/.362/.572 with Triple-A Round Rock this season.

  • Jose Altuve 2B | HOU

Astros' Jose Altuve: Begins rehab assignment

Altuve (hamstring) went 1-for-5 with a run scored for Triple-A Round Rock on Sunday.

Altuve kicked of a short rehab assignment by playing all nine innings at second base. He's expected to return to Houston by Wednesday, although a hamstring injury to Aledmys Diaz may prompt the Astros to get him back to MLB a day earlier.
