  • Michael Chavis 2B | CIN

Red Sox's Michael Chavis: Slugs 15th homer

Chavis went 1-for-4 with a three-run home run in Thursday's victory over the Blue Jays.

Chavis turned a 6-4 deficit into a one-run lead with one swing of the bat in the sixth inning, crushing a 391-foot homer to left field. Though his high strikeout numbers (94 in 257 at-bats) are cause for concern, Chavis has nonetheless enjoyed a strong start to his rookie season, slashing .265/.335/.479 with 15 home runs and 47 runs batted in.

  • Marcus Semien 2B | NYM

Athletics' Marcus Semien: Homers twice, drives in five

Semien went 2-for-4 with a walk, two home runs, five RBI and two runs scored Thursday against the Twins.

Semien powered the Athletics offense Thursday, crushing his 12th and 13th homers of the season. The highlight came in the eighth inning when he mashed a grand slam to seal the victory. Semien has had a quietly impressive campaign, highlighted by an impressive .350 on-base percentage -- 35 points above his career average. Overall, he's hitting .269/.350/.439 across 410 plate appearances.

  • Athletics' Franklin Barreto: Heads to bench Thursday

Barreto is not in the lineup for Thursday's series finale versus the Twins.

Manager Bob Melvin said earlier this week that Barreto would receive the bulk of the starts at second base going forward, but he'll take a seat Thursday after going 0-for-5 with three strikeouts and two errors in Wednesday's contest. Jurickson Profar returns to the starting nine at second base in his place.

  • Brandon Lowe 2B | PIT

Rays' Brandon Lowe: Moves to IL

The Rays placed Lowe (shin) on the 10-day injured list Thursday, Josh Tolentino of The Athletic reports.

Lowe was labeled day-to-day when he initially sustained a bruised right shin in Tuesday's game against the Orioles, but the Rays determined prior to Thursday's series opener with the Yankees that it was best to give the 24-year-old additional time off. The decision to move Lowe to the IL means he won't be able to compete in the All-Star Game next week, though there's optimism he'll be ready to return to action when first eligible July 13. The Rays called up Nate Lowe from Triple-A Durham in a corresponding move, and the expectation is that he'll take over as the team's primary first baseman while both Brandon Lowe and Ji-Man Choi (ankle) are on the shelf.

  • Nicky Lopez 3B | CHC

Royals' Nicky Lopez: Plummets in order

Lopez will start at second base and bat seventh Thursday against the Indians.

Lopez has slotted into the lower third of the order for three straight games after Adalberto Mondesi returned from the 10-day injured list earlier this week and was immediately reinstalled as the team's No. 2 hitter. With the rookie now set to occupy a spot in the bottom half of the lineup for the foreseeable future, his opportunities to both score and produce runs will likely take a hit.

  • Blue Jays' Brandon Drury: Records seventh homer

Drury went 3-for-4 with a two-run home run and a double Wednesday against the Red Sox.

Drury took Chris Sale deep in the sixth inning for his seventh home run and also collected his first three-hit effort since April 27. He's drawn five starts in the team's last seven games due to a combination of poor performance and injury placing Teoscar Hernandez (shoulder) on the bench. In that span, Drury is 4-for-15 -- though nearly all that production came Wednesday -- and his line now sits at .214/.262/.368 across 252 plate appearances for the season.

  • Jorge Polanco 1B | NYM

Twins' Jorge Polanco: Late addition to lineup

Polanco was added to the lineup for Wednesday's game against Oakland as a replacement for Marwin Gonzalez (toe), Dan Hayes of The Athletic reports.

Polanco was originally scheduled to sit for the first time since June 19 but will end up waiting at least one more day for down time. He'll at least get to rest his legs during Wednesday's game, as he'll serve as the designated hitter while batting third.

  • Jorge Polanco 1B | NYM

Twins' Jorge Polanco: Sitting out Wednesday

Polanco is not in the lineup for Wednesday's game against the A's.

Ehire Adrianza will get the start at shortstop as Polanco sits for the first time since June 19. Polanco has hit safely in 10 of 11 games since that last absence and is batting .319/.377/.518 for the season. The Twins' first All-Star starter since 2013, his 133 wRC+ ranks 27th among all qualified hitters in baseball.

  • Brandon Lowe 2B | PIT

Rays' Brandon Lowe: Sits with bruised leg

Lowe (leg) is not in Wednesday's lineup against the Orioles, Steve Carney of Sports Radio 620 WDAE reports.

He was diagnosed with a right lower-leg contusion after fouling a ball off himself in Tuesday's game. Michael Brosseau will start at second base, hitting sixth.

  • Royals' Whit Merrifield: Piling up hits

Merrifield went 3-for-5 with a run scored Tuesday in the Royals' 9-5 loss to the Indians.

Merrifield has turned in three straight multi-hit performances and was able to surge ahead of the Yankees' DJ LeMahieu (108 hits) for the major-league lead (111) after adding three more singles to his ledger. The All-Star has supplemented his .307 average with 11 home runs and 11 steals, making him just one of 13 players in the majors to reach double digits in both categories.
