Michael Chavis 2B | CIN
Red Sox's Michael Chavis: Playing time trending up
Chavis will start at second base and bat ninth Monday against the Royals, Pete Abraham of The Boston Globe reports.
Before heading to the bench for Sunday's 9-2 win over the Yankees, Chavis had served as Boston's leadoff man in each of the previous three contests. He'll cede table-setting duties to Enrique Hernandez in Monday's series opener with a lefty (Danny Duffy) on the hill for Kansas City, but Chavis at least appears to have supplanted Danny Santana as Boston's preferred option at second base. Through 46 plate appearances at the big-league level this season, Chavis is slashing .244/.261/.400.

Zack Short 3B | DET
Tigers' Zack Short: Heads to bench
Short is out of the lineup for Monday's game against Cleveland, Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press reports.
Short started each of the Tigers' previous three games at shortstop, going 2-for-8 with a home run, double and a walk. Harold Castro will get the nod at the position in Monday's series opener, but Short could at least be part of a timeshare while the Tigers await the return of top option Niko Goodrum (finger) from the injured list.

Elvis Andrus 2B | ARI
Athletics' Elvis Andrus: Productive in win
Andrus went 1-for-4 with an RBI sacrifice fly, a run and a stolen base in a win over the Giants on Sunday.
The veteran shortstop extended the Athletics' lead to 5-0 with his sixth-inning sac fly, while the stolen base was Andrus' sixth of the season. The solid effort Sunday was an extension of what has been a productive June for Andrus, one in which he's now generated a .270/.313/.382 slash line with 10 doubles, 10 RBI, six walks, three steals and 13 runs across 96 plate appearances.

Brandon Lowe 2B | PIT
Rays' Brandon Lowe: Slugs 15th homer in loss
Lowe went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in a loss to the Angels on Sunday.
The slugging infielder squared up on his sixth homer of June in the fifth inning with a 368-foot shot to right field. Lowe has just a .235 average during the current month, but a total of 10 extra-base hits have helped him to a strong .832 OPS over that span as well.

Amed Rosario 3B | NYY
Indians' Amed Rosario: Reaches base three times in loss
Rosario went 2-for-3 with a double and a walk in Sunday's 8-2 loss to the Twins.
Rosario was able to reach base three times Sunday but was never involved in a scoring play. He is coming off a recent 0-for-15 stretch but has hit safely in each of the last two games and hit his first homer since June 6. The 25-year-old owns a slash line of .270/.326/.390 with five homers, 23 RBI, 37 runs scored, seven stolen bases and an 18:51 BB:K over 261 plate appearances.

Whit Merrifield 2B | ATL
Royals' Whit Merrifield: Plates team's lone run
Merrifield went 3-for-4 with an RBI in Sunday's loss against Texas.
Merrifield was one of three Kansas City players who recorded at least two base knocks, and he made his presence felt in the box score with an RBI single in the fifth inning that scored Kelvin Gutierrez. With the RBI, Merrifield now has 43 runs batted in while hitting .279 on the campaign. He's only been held hitless once in his last 13 games and collected five hits in the weekend series.

Cavan Biggio RF | HOU
Blue Jays' Cavan Biggio: On base three times in win
Biggio went 2-for-3 with a double, two RBI, a walk and a strikeout in Sunday's 5-2 win over the Orioles.
Biggio had gone just 0-for-7 with a run, a walk and a strikeout across his last two games, and he got a day off Saturday as a result. However, he broke out of his slump in his return to the lineup and provided some insurance in the bottom of the fifth inning with a two-run double. In his 15 games since he returned from the injured list, the 26-year-old has hit .292 with three home runs, four doubles, seven runs and six RBI.
-
Danny Mendick 3B | CHW
White Sox's Danny Mendick: Not starting second game
Mendick isn't in the lineup for Sunday's Game 2 against the Mariners.
Mendick entered the conclusion of Saturday's suspended game and went 0-for-1. He'll remain out of the lineup for the second game while Leury Garcia starts at second base and bats eighth.
-
Enrique Hernandez SS | LAD
Red Sox's Enrique Hernandez: Slugs seventh homer
Hernandez went 2-for-5 with a solo home run and an RBI double in Sunday's 9-2 win over the Yankees.
Returning to the leadoff spot Sunday, the 29-year-old knocked the first pitch he saw from Gerrit Cole for a home run, setting the tone for Boston in the win. In the eighth inning, Hernandez knocked in Boston's last run by scoring Marwin Gonzalez on a double. Through 256 plate appearances, Hernandez is slashing .228/.289/.401 with seven homers, 22 RBI, 35 runs scored and a stolen base.

Harold Castro 2B | KC
Tigers' Harold Castro: Not starting Sunday
Castro is not starting Sunday against the Astros.
Castro will take a seat as Zack Short starts at shortstop for the third straight game. Castro had previously been splitting time at shortstop with Isaac Paredes, and that could continue to be the case with Short going forward.
