The second baseman is holding down a strong-side platoon role with a .246/.305/.408 slash line, 10 steals, 13 home runs, 60 RBI and 58 runs scored over 132 contests this season. His sixth-inning pilfer gave Gimenez an even 30 for the season, further padding his career high. The 25-year-old is having an impressive September, reeling off multiple hits in three straight games and six of the last nine to boost his slash line on the month to .354/.408/.477 with a homer, eight steals, nine RBI and 10 runs in 17 contests.

Merrifield is not in the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Yankees, Shi Davidi of Sportsnet.careports.

Merrifield is 3-for-32 in his past nine games and finds himself on the bench for the third time in Toronto's last four contests. The veteran utility man and Daulton Varsho have been splitting time in left field of late, with both players have struggled in September with a sub-.700 OPS.

While it's nowhere near his .297/.371/.466 slash line from 2022, Gimenez has shown off his skills late in the campaign.
