  • Curtis Mead 3B | WAS

Rays' Curtis Mead: Garners third straight start

Mead will start at second base and bat fifth in Wednesday's game against the Angels, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

The rookie will man the keystone for the third day in a row, though he'll be doing so against a right-handed starting pitcher (Jose Soriano) on Wednesday after his previous two starts came versus southpaws. He had been occupying the short side of a platoon with Brandon Lowe, but Mead could be poised for a regular spot in the lineup versus right-handed pitching after manager Kevin Cash indicated that Lowe tweaked his right oblique while warming up prior to Tuesday's 6-4 win. According to Tricia Whitaker of Bally Sports Sun, Cash said that it's "fair to say" that Lowe will miss some time, so expect the veteran to be placed on the 10-day injured list prior to Friday's series opener versus the Giants. Through 27 plate appearances this season, Mead has slashed .292/.370/.292 with two runs scored.

  • Brandon Lowe 2B | PIT

Rays' Brandon Lowe: Sent for MRI on oblique

Lowe will undergo an MRI on his right oblique and won't be available for Wednesday's game against the Angels, Tricia Whitaker of Bally Sports Sun reports.

Rays manager Kevin Cash said that it's "fair to say he will miss some time," so while Lowe hasn't yet been placed on the 10-day injured list, he seems likely to be deactivated prior to Friday's series opener versus the Giants. The MRI will determine the severity of the injury and should help provide the Rays with a rough timeline for how long Lowe might be sidelined. Lowe was out of the lineup for the Rays' past two games against left-handed pitching, but he'll be on the bench Wednesday against a right-hander (Jose Soriano) for the first time. Curtis Mead will draw a third straight start and will likely be headed for a full-time role at second base if Lowe does in fact land on the IL.

  • Cavan Biggio RF | HOU

Blue Jays' Cavan Biggio: Steals bag Tuesday

Biggio went 2-for-3 with a run scored and a stolen base in Tuesday's win over the Mariners.

The steal was his first of the season. Biggio has hit safely in five straight games and has been a near-everyday fixture in the Blue Jays' lineup, primarily at second base, but the team also hasn't faced many left-handed starters yet. Through 11 contests, the 28-year-old is batting .290 (9-for-31) with one homer, three runs and four RBI.

  • Tony Kemp 2B | MIN

Orioles' Tony Kemp: Cut from 40-man roster

The Orioles designated Kemp for assignment Wednesday.

Kemp's removal from the 40-man roster opens a spot for top prospect Jackson Holliday, who was called up from Triple-A Norfolk in a corresponding move and is expected to take on a near-everyday role in the middle infield. Though he was able to crack the Orioles' Opening Day roster when he was signed shortly after being cut by the Reds in spring training, Kemp appeared in only five of Baltimore's first 10 games while going hitless in his nine at-bats.

  • Lenyn Sosa 2B | TOR

White Sox's Lenyn Sosa: Batting third Tuesday

Sosa will start at second base and bat third in Tuesday's contest in Cleveland.

Sosa was just recalled over the weekend and is making his second start in four games. Nicky Lopez will receive the day off.

  • Romy Gonzalez 2B | BOS

Red Sox's Romy Gonzalez: Platooning at shortstop

Red Sox manager Alex Cora said Tuesday that David Hamilton and Gonzalez will form a platoon at shortstop after Trevor Story (shoulder) landed on the injured list, Jen McCaffrey of The Athletic reports.

Gonzalez was called up by Boston on Monday and should fill the small side of the platoon, with the lefty-hitting Hamilton likely to see most starts against righties. The Red Sox could change course at some point since Story is out for the season, but Gonzalez will have a chance to carve out a regular role in the majors.

  • Orioles' Jordan Westburg: Not in Tuesday's lineup

Westburg is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Red Sox, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.comreports.

Westburg started the first nine games of the season but will take a seat Tuesday after struggling to a .194/.242/.355 slash line in 34 plate appearances. Ramon Urias will man the hot corner while Tony Kemp starts at second base.

  • Colt Keith 3B | DET

Tigers' Colt Keith: Tallies two hits in loss

Keith went 2-for-4 with an RBI in Monday's 7-4 loss to the Pirates.

Keith now has hits in three straight games, and the rookie is batting a respectable .250 overall across his first 10 contests. He's yet to go deep this year after hitting a total of 27 home runs across two levels in 2023, but the power should come as long as he keeps making consistent contact. Keith should stay locked into a regular role as well, so the opportunity is there for the promising 22-year-old to have a strong debut campaign.

  • Justin Foscue 1B | TEX

Rangers' Justin Foscue: Lands on 10-day IL

Foscue was placed on the 10-day injured list Monday with a left oblique strain.

Foscue made his big-league debut just a few days earlier against Houston, so it's unclear as to when he suffered the injury. The Rangers selected Davis Wendzel's contract from Triple-A Round Rock in a corresponding move.

  • Romy Gonzalez 2B | BOS

Red Sox's Romy Gonzalez: Called up by Red Sox

The Red Sox called up Gonzalez from Triple-A Worcester on Monday, Rob Bradford of WEEI.com reports.

In a corresponding move, the Red Sox optioned Bobby Dalbec to Triple-A Worcester. Gonzalez had a strong start to his minor-league season, slashing .321/.375/.821 with three home runs and 10 RBI over 32 plate appearances. He'll bring some infield depth and a right-handed bat for the Red Sox and should get starts against left-handed pitching. Gonzalez saw time at second base, shortstop and first base at Triple-A.
