  • Anthony Rizzo 1B | NYY

Cubs' Anthony Rizzo: Reaches base five times

Rizzo went 4-for-4 with a walk, two doubles, an RBI and three runs scored Sunday against the Cardinals.

Rizzo reached base in all of his plate appearances Sunday, highlighted by his 28th and 29th doubles of the season. His lone RBI gave him exactly 100 for the season, marking the fourth straight campaign he's reached that plateau. On the other hand, Rizzo struggled to hit for power by his lofty standards, failing to record at least a .500 slugging percentage for the first time since 2014.

  • Chris Shaw 1B | CHW

Giants' Chris Shaw: Sits versus lefty Sunday

Shaw is not in the lineup Sunday against the Dodgers, John Shea of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Shaw will sit for the second day in a row with the Dodgers pitching a second lefty in a row, with today's southpaw being Rich Hill. The 24-year-old wound up producing just a .552 OPS in his late-season opportunities and could end the season with that same lowly figure. Gregor Blanco will slide over to left field to replace him, allowing Gorkys Hernandez to join the outfield fray Sunday.

  • Diamondbacks' Christian Walker: Lands on 60-day disabled list

Walker was placed on the 60-day disabled list with a facial fracture Saturday.

Walker suffered the fracture when getting hit in the head by a pitch Monday. The move doesn't have any effect on his return date, as he's already been ruled out for the year, but it clears space on the 40-man roster for Shelby Miller (elbow) to be activated in a corresponding move.

  • Diamondbacks' Paul Goldschmidt: Hits bench Saturday

Goldschmidt is not in the lineup Saturday against San Diego.

Goldschmidt will get his third day off in the last nine games with the Diamondbacks having missed out on the playoffs. Daniel Descalso starts at first base.

  • Dominic Smith DH | ATL

Mets' Dominic Smith: Not starting Saturday

Smith is not in the lineup for Saturday's contest against the Marlins.

Smith is hitting just .223/.255/.424 in 54 games this season. Jay Bruce will get the start at first base in Smith's absence.

  • Chris Shaw 1B | CHW

Giants' Chris Shaw: Out of lineup vs. lefty

Shaw is not in the starting lineup against the Dodgers on Saturday, Kerry Crowley of the Bay Area News Group reports.

Shaw will remain on the bench for a second straight game with another southpaw (Clayton Kershaw) on the bump. Gregor Blanco will start in left field while Gorkys Hernandez gets the nod in center.

  • Diamondbacks' Paul Goldschmidt: Nabs seventh stolen base

Goldschmidt went 1-for-6 with a walk and a stolen base Friday in the Diamondbacks' 3-2 loss to the Padres in 15 innings.

While the seven thefts Goldschmidt has provided in 2018 amounts to serviceable production from a first baseman, it likely represents a disappointing output for those that rostered him, considering he had no fewer than 15 steals in all but one of the previous six seasons. After a glacially slow start to the season, Goldschmidt has at least rallied to meet draft-day expectations with a .290 average and 33 home runs, though his team's collective offensive slide in the second half will likely prevent him from reaching the century mark in RBI (95) and runs (83). Those totals represent his lowest outputs in both categories since 2014, when he was sidelined for the final two months of the season with a broken hand.

  • Rhys Hoskins 1B | CLE

Phillies' Rhys Hoskins: Rips homer in loss

Hoskins went 1-for-4 with a solo shot in Friday's loss to the Braves.

It was Hoskins' 34th long ball of the season, with the solo smash boosting his RBI total to 95. While his .245 average may leave something to be desired, Hoskins has some of the most deadly power in the game as shown by his .495 slugging percentage. He'll enter next season as the Phillies' everyday left fielder.

  • Anthony Rizzo 1B | NYY

Cubs' Anthony Rizzo: Knocks in two vs. St. Louis

Rizzo went 1-for-3 with two RBI in Friday's win over the Cardinals.

Rizzo delivered an RBI single to kick off the scoring in the first inning and plated a run on a sacrifice fly in the fifth. He's batting .279 with two home runs and 13 RBI through 26 games in September and hopes to carry that success over into the postseason.

  • Chris Shaw 1B | CHW

Giants' Chris Shaw: Absent from Friday's lineup

Shaw is out of the lineup against the Dodgers on Friday, Kerry Crowley of the Bay Area News Group reports.

Shaw will head to the bench with left-hander Hyun-Jin Ryu on the mound for Los Angeles. In his place, the right-handed hitting Austin Slater will man left field and bat seventh.
