  • Yuli Gurriel DH | SD

Marlins' Yuli Gurriel: Emerging as primary first baseman

Gurriel will start at first base and bat fifth in Monday's game against the Royals, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.

After producing six hits in the Marlins' weekend series with the Athletics, Gurriel will be rewarded Monday with his 13th consecutive start. Though Garrett Cooper is in the lineup as Miami's designated hitter in place of a resting Jorge Soler, Gurriel appears to have overtaken the slumping Cooper as Miami's primary first baseman.

  • Yuli Gurriel DH | SD

Marlins' Yuli Gurriel: Homer shy of cycle

Gurriel went 3-for-4 with a double, a triple, an RBI and a run scored in Sunday's 7-5 victory over the Athletics.

Gurriel's leadoff triple in the fourth inning was his third three-bagger this year, setting a new career high in his age-39 season. He's gone 6-for-13 in his last three games following an 0-for-13 slump. Gurriel's now slashing .291/.350/.440 with three homers, 15 runs scored, 13 RBI and three stolen bases through 157 at-bats in his first season with Miami.

  • Garrett Cooper 1B | ATL

Marlins' Garrett Cooper: Smacks game-tying homer

Cooper went 2-for-4 with a double, a home run, three RBI and two runs scored in Sunday's win over the Athletics.

Cooper tied the game 5-5 with a three-run shot off Paul Blackburn in the fifth inning -- his sixth home run of the year and his third in eight games. Sunday's two-hit performance was the first multi-hit game for the 32-year-old since May 14. He'd gone just 8-for-53 (.151) in his previous 14 contests. Cooper's now slashing .242/.278/.412 with 23 RBI through 162 plate appearances this season.

  • Pete Alonso 1B | BAL

    Mets' Pete Alonso: Homers Sunday

Alonso went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Sunday's 6-4 loss to the Blue Jays.

Alonso cut the Mets' deficit to 4-3 in the sixth inning with a line-drive homer off Nate Pearson. It's Alonso's 21st long ball of the season, extending his league lead. The power-hitting first baseman had been struggling coming into Sunday's contest, going 2-for-19 (.105) with a .255 OPS in his last five games. Alonso is now slashing .231/.324/.538 with 47 RBI in 256 plate appearances this season.

  • Drew Ellis 1B | PHI

Phillies' Drew Ellis: Reaches safely five times in win

Ellis went 3-for-3 with two walks, a solo home run, a two-run home run and two additional runs scored in Sunday's 11-3 victory over the Nationals.

Ellis is filling in at third base for Alec Bohm, who was recently placed on the injured list with a hamstring issue. The former has drawn three straight starts and burst onto the scene Sunday. Coming into the contest, the 2017 second-round pick had hit just one home run across 109 career plate appearances, so it may be a stretch to expect this type of power on a regular basis. Regardless, Ellis figures to continue drawing starts with Bohm sidelined and has showcased a patient approach at the plate, drawing a walk in each of his first three starts with Philadelphia.

  • Diamondbacks' Christian Walker: Late add to lineup

Walker (illness) is batting cleanup as the designated hitter Sunday against Atlanta, Theo Mackie of The Arizona Republic reports.

Walker was initially out of the lineup Sunday for the second straight game due to food poisoning, but he ended up being a late addition to the starting nine. Lourdes Gurriel was pulled from the lineup as a result.

  • Diamondbacks' Christian Walker: On bench for second straight

Walker is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against Atlanta.

Walker sat out Saturday's 5-2 loss in what was believed to be a rest day, but his absence from the lineup for the second straight day suggests he could be dealing with an injury or illness. Expect Arizona to provide an explanation on the matter later Sunday, but Emmanuel Rivera will fill in for Walker at first base in the series finale.

  • Matt Mervis 1B | WAS

Cubs' Matt Mervis: On bench versus southpaw

Mervis is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Padres.

The 25-year-old will sit Sunday with lefty Ryan Weathers on the mound for San Diego, and it marks Mervis' fifth time on the bench in Chicago's last eight games. The first baseman is 0-for-16 with three walks and seven strikeouts dating back to May 24. Trey Mancini will receive the start at first base Sunday.

  • Rockies' Elehuris Montero: First hit since being recalled

Montero went 1-for-4 with a triple, two RBI and a run scored Saturday against the Royals.

Montero drew his second start since being recalled Monday, both of which have come at first base with a lefty on the mound. He delivered a two-RBI triple in the second inning to tally his first hit since his most recent promotion. Montero could have a spot on the roster so long as Kris Bryant (heel) and C.J. Cron (back) remain on the injured list, but he appears to be limited to a small-side platoon role.

  • Brewers' Jon Singleton: Makes first appearance since 2015

Singleton went 1-for-4 with one run scored in Saturday's 10-8 win over Cincinnati.

Singleton made his first MLB appearance since 2015, playing first base and batting sixth. Rowdy Tellez operated as the designated hitter Saturday, but he figures to man first on a regular basis, so Singleton will presumably be relegated to a backup role, limiting his overall fantasy value.
