  Rotowire Oct 19, 2026

Smith (undisclosed) was hosted for a workout by the Colts on Monday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports. Smith was waived from injured reserve by the Panthers in early August after suffering an undisclosed injury, but he now appears to be back to full health. The wide receiver played in seven regular-season contests with the Eagles in 2024, reeling in seven of nine targets for 41 yards and a touchdown. Now healthy, Smith will have a chance to latch on with a new squad early in the 2026 campaign.

• Panthers' Ainias Smith: Bound for IR

  Rotowire Aug 5, 2026

Smith (undisclosed) reverted from waivers to Carolina's injured reserve list Wednesday, Mike Kaye of The Charlotte Observer reports. Smith passed through waivers after the Panthers waived him Tuesday, and now he's on track to spend the entire 2026 campaign on IR. His being sidelined could open up more opportunities for players like 2024 sixth-rounder Casey Washington and Ja'Seem Reed to make an impression during training camp.

• Ainias Smith: Waived/injured by Carolina

  Rotowire Aug 4, 2026

The Panthers waived/injured Smith (undisclosed) on Tuesday, Darin Gantt of the team's official site reports. Both Smith and Gabriel Benyard were let go Tuesday in moves that corresponded with the Panthers signing wideouts Roc Taylor and Elijah Cooks. Because Smith was cut with an injury designation, he would revert to the Panthers' injured reserve if he goes through waivers unclaimed. That would force the 2024 fifth-rounder to sit for the entire 2026 season unless he reaches an injury settlement with Carolina.

  Rotowire Jan 12, 2026

Smith signed a reserve/future contract with the Panthers on Monday, Darin Gantt of the team's official site reports. Smith appeared in seven regular-season games for the Eagles as a rookie, but the 2024 fifth-round draft pick was waived prior to the 2025 season and subsequently signed with Carolina's practice squad, where he spent the entire 2025 campaign. He will likely get a chance to compete for a roster spot with the Panthers in training camp in 2026.

• Eagles' Ainias Smith: Inactive for divisional round

  Rotowire Jan 19, 2025

Smith (coach's decision) is inactive for Sunday's NFC divisional-round game against the Rams. Smith will be a healthy scratch for the second playoff game in a row. The rookie wideout caught four passes for 35 yards and a touchdown when the team rested its primary starters Week 18, but he was a nonfactor on offense during his previous six appearances in the regular season. Smith will once again watch from the sideline while A.J. Brown, DeVonta Smith, Jahan Dotson, Johnny Wilson and Parris Campbell fill out the Eagles' wide receiver corps.

• Eagles' Ainias Smith: Inactive for wild-card round

  Rotowire Jan 12, 2025

Smith (coach's decision) is inactive for Sunday's NFC wild-card game against the Packers. With the Eagles having nothing to play for in the regular-season finale against the Giants, Smith saw an expanded role on offense while A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith rested. Smith played a season-high 47 snaps on offense and finished with four catches (on six targets) for 35 yards and a touchdown in a 20-13 win. With higher stakes on the line Sunday, Smith will observe the game in street clothes while the Eagles go with a wide receiver corps of Brown, Smith, Jahan Dotson, Johnny Wilson and Parris Campbell.

• Eagles' Ainias Smith: Snags first career TD

  Rotowire Jan 5, 2025

Smith caught four of six targets for 35 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 20-13 win over the Giants. He added four rushing yards on his only carry. The 2024 fifth-round pick saw a bigger role with A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith getting rested ahead of the postseason, and the younger Smith took advantage by hauling in his first career TD to open the scoring on a 15-yard toss from Tanner McKee in the first quarter. Smith hadn't caught a pass since Week 10 prior to making a splash Sunday, and he should return to a depth role next weekend when the Eagles host the Packers in the wild-card round.

• Eagles' Ainias Smith: Designated to return

  Rotowire Oct 7, 2024

Smith (ankle) was designated to return from injured reserve Monday. The 2024 fifth-round pick has been sidelined for the first five weeks of the Eagles' 2024 campaign after sustaining an ankle injury in late August. However, with his practice window being opened Monday, it appears he's nearing a return to the field. Philadelphia will now have 21 days to activate Smith to its active roster before he reverts back to IR. Given the injuries in the Eagles' wide-receiver room, Smith could have the opportunity to see some offensive work as soon as he returns from injury.

• Eagles' Ainias Smith: Lands on IR, designated to return

  Rotowire Aug 27, 2024

The Eagles placed Smith (ankle/hamstring) on injured reserve Tuesday and designated him to return, Tim McManus of ESPN.com reports. After being selected in the fifth round of April's NFL Draft, Smith came on strong late in training camp and tallied eight catches on 12 targets for 43 yards during the exhibition slate. However, he suffered an ankle injury during Philadelphia's preseason finale, and an MRI indicated that he'll likely need to miss four to six weeks. Under a new NFL rule, Philadelphia was able to leave Smith off the 53-man roster, place him on IR and designate him to return. He'll need to miss at least the Eagles' first four games of the regular season.

• Eagles' Ainias Smith: Candidate to miss time

  Rotowire Aug 26, 2024

Smith (ankle/hamstring) underwent an MRI on Monday and could be a candidate to miss the start of the regular season, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports. Smith, a rookie fifth-round pick, has impressed in the preseason and seemed to be making a strong case for a spot on the 53-man roster. If Smith's MRI indeed confirms an injury that will impact his Week 1 availability, however, the Eagles could instead opt to place him on IR, which would rule him out for the first four games of the year. However, Philadelphia's recent acquisition of Jahan Dotson via trade from the Commanders makes Smith's path to a significant role in the slot murky, even if he can quickly return to full health.

• Eagles' Ainias Smith: Leads team in receptions Saturday

  Rotowire Aug 24, 2024

Smith caught six of nine targets for 36 yards in Saturday's 26-3 preseason loss to the Vikings. He also returned one punt for 14 yards. The 2024 fifth-round pick led the Eagles in catches and targets Saturday as he made his final case for a home on the season-opening roster. Smith's narrow path to a significant role in the slot likely closed when Philadelphia traded for Jahan Dotson, but the Texas A&M product may have shown enough as both a receiver and a returner to claim the last spot on the wide receiver depth chart.
