Top Broncos News

  • Broncos' Levelle Bailey: Breaks leg in preseason opener

Bailey broke his leg during the Broncos' 27-7 preseason win over the Falcons on Friday, Mike Klis of 9News Denver reports.

Bailey was carted to the locker room after sustaining the injury and is expected to undergo surgery over the coming days. The injury may not be season-ending, but it's a blow for the Fresno State product in his battle for a spot on the Broncos' 53-man roster for the regular season. Karene Reid, Jordan Turner and Red Murdock are the Broncos' depth inside linebackers behind Alex Singleton and Justin Strnad.

  • Broncos' Marvin Mims: Doesn't play vs. Atlanta

Mims (undisclosed) did not play in the Broncos' 27-7 preseason win over the Falcons on Friday.

Mims is working through an undisclosed injury and joined fellow wideouts Jaylen Waddle (leg) and Michael Bandy on the sidelines for Friday's preseason opener. Once he's cleared to practice fully, Mims will resume competing against Pat Bryant and Troy Franklin for the WR3 role behind Waddle and Courtland Sutton. Even if he's relegated to WR4 or WR5, Mims should still see the field plenty as a returner on kickoffs and punts.

  • Broncos' Pat Bryant: Makes 15-yard catch on first play

Bryant caught his only target for 15 yards in Friday's 27-7 preseason win over the Falcons.

Bryant's catch came on Denver's first play of the game. It's encouraging to see the 2025 third-round pick getting involved early, as Bryant will have his work cut out for him as he tries to earn playing time in his second NFL campaign. Jaylen Waddle (leg) and Courtland Sutton are locked in as starters at wide receiver, while Bryant will also face competition for targets from Troy Franklin and Marvin Mims (undisclosed) in Denver's WR room.

  • Broncos' Troy Franklin: One catch in preseason opener

Franklin caught one of two targets for 23 yards in Friday's 27-7 preseason win over the Falcons.

Franklin's lone reception came on the final play of the first quarter on a pass from Jarrett Stidham, who started at QB while Bo Nix rested. Franklin is competing for the third spot on the wide-receiver depth chart with 2025 third-round pick Pat Bryant and 2023 second-round pick Marvin Mims (undisclosed). Jaylen Waddle (leg) and Courtland Sutton are locked in as starters. Franklin had 709 receiving yards in the 2025 regular season, which was second most on the team behind Sutton's 1,017.

  • Broncos' Jonah Coleman: Four carries in first taste of NFL

Coleman rushed four times for 24 yards in Friday's 27-7 preseason win over the Falcons.

Coleman was the second running back into the game for Denver after RJ Harvey while veteran J.K. Dobbins (undisclosed) sat out Friday's preseason opener. Denver's rookie fourth-round pick is likely to begin his career as third on the team's running back depth chart behind Dobbins and Harvey, though Tyler Badie, Jaleel McLaughlin and Cody Schrader will try to work their way into the conversation during the preseason, which will continue for the Broncos next Friday against the Packers.

  • Broncos' Courtland Sutton: Strong start to preseason

Sutton caught all three of his targets for 60 yards in Friday's 27-7 preseason win over the Falcons.

Starting QB Bo Nix and WR Jaylen Waddle (leg) didn't dress Friday, but Sutton showed encouraging chemistry with backup QB Jarrett Stidham on Denver's first two drives. Sutton made a nice one-handed grab in addition to hauling in a 40-yard pass that got Denver down to the 1-yard line on the opening drive. The 30-year-old wideout looks like he's in midseason form already on the heels of back-to-back regular seasons with more than 1,000 receiving yards.

  • Broncos' Levelle Bailey: Won't return Friday

Bailey (ankle) has been ruled out for the remainder of Friday night's game against the Falcons, Zac Stevens of TheDNVR.com reports.

Bailey exited the contest in the second quarter with an ankle injury. It is unclear how severe the issue is, but even if Bailey could have returned to the contest, the coaching staff likely would not have allowed it. It remains to be seen if the 25-year-old will be ready to play in next Friday's preseason game against the Packers.

  • Broncos' Levelle Bailey: Exits Friday's game

Bailey (ankle) is questionable to return to Friday night's preseason game against the Falcons, Parker Gabriel of The Denver Post reports.

Bailey exited the game in the second quarter with an ankle injury. The inside linebacker did not produce any box-score statistics before his departure.

  • Broncos' J.K. Dobbins: Not in uniform Friday

Dobbins isn't in line to play in Friday's preseason game in Atlanta, Parker Gabriel of The Denver Post reports.

Dobbins made an early exit from practice Monday due to a soft-tissue injury, and while he went through individual drills Tuesday and Wednesday, the Broncos will exercise caution with their presumed top running back. His next chance for exhibition action is next Friday versus the Packers.

  • Broncos' Jaylen Waddle: Not suited up Friday

Waddle (leg) isn't slated to play in Friday's preseason contest in Atlanta, Parker Gabriel of The Denver Post reports.

Waddle initially exited an Aug. 5 practice session early due to muscle tightness, and while he got rid of the sleeve on his left leg this past Saturday, he has yet to mix back into drills in the meantime. As a result, his first taste of game action as a Bronco will have to wait until at least next Friday against the Packers. Once Waddle is healthy, he's set to form a top WR duo in Denver with Courtland Sutton for QB Bo Nix.

  • Broncos' Michael Deiter: Placed on injured reserve

The Broncos placed Deiter (quadriceps) on injured reserve Thursday, Parker Gabriel of The Denver Post reports.

Deiter suffered a severe quadriceps injury Wednesday that will end his season, so the move to injured reserve is not surprising. The center's absence may not impact the Broncos' starting offensive line, but given Luke Wattenberg's (undisclosed) injury history, Deiter would have provided valuable depth for the unit.

  • Broncos' Michael Deiter: Done for year

Deiter suffered a quadriceps injury that will require surgery and end his season, Aric DiLalla of the Broncos' official site reports.

Deiter signed with Denver in January and he was expected to serve as veteran depth piece on the offensive line. The 29-year-old will now shift his focus to 2027 and he'll likely be placed on injured reserve in the near future.

  • Broncos' Bo Nix: Won't play preseason Week 1

Nix isn't in line to play in Friday's preseason opener against the Falcons, James Palmer of The Athletic reports.

Per Palmer, the Broncos' franchise QB is, however, on track to see action Aug. 21 against the Packers, as well as in the team's Aug. 28 preseason finale, per coach Sean Payton, who noted that the signal-caller has practiced fully since the start of training camp and has taken the same number of snaps as he did during last year's camp, Jeff Legwold of ESPN reports. With Nix slated to sit versus Atlanta, Zac Stevens of TheDNVR.com relays that Jarrett Stidham and Sam Ehlinger are each in line to play a half on Friday.

  • Broncos' J.K. Dobbins: Practices again Wednesday

Dobbins, who was forced out of Monday's practice with a soft-tissue injury, was present for Wednesday's practice, Zac Stevens of TheDNVR.com reports.

Dobbins went through individual drills during Tuesday's session, and his continued presence on the field a day later is a good sign ahead of Friday's preseason opener against the Falcons. That said, we'd be surprised to see the running back get any reps in that contest given his recent injury, and if he ends up being held out, his next chance to see game action will occur Aug. 21 against Green Bay.
