With the Broncos coming off a mini bye following last Thursday night's win over the Seahawks, Surtain looks to return to the field Sunday against the Cardinals after missing the previous two contests. Surtain (ankle) was on the field for the start of practice Wednesday, Zac Stevens of TheDNVR.com reports.
The 2024 NFL Defensive Player of the Year hasn't practiced or played since spraining his ankle in an Oct. 4 loss to the 49ers, so his presence on the field Wednesday marks the first notable sign of progress in his recovery. Per James Palmer of Bleacher Report, the Broncos have been targeting their Week 8 game versus the Chiefs for Surtain's return to the lineup, but the star cornerback could put himself on a path to play this Sunday in Arizona if he looks better than anticipated in practice over the next few days.

Surtain (ankle) has been ruled out for Thursday's game against the Seahawks.
Surtain was held out of practice all week by an ankle injury, which will cause him to miss a second consecutive game. Meanwhile, fellow starting outside cornerback Riley Moss (ribs) earned the questionable tag for Thursday's game, and if he returns, then the second starting spot would go to one of Jahdae Barron or Kris Abrams-Draine. Surtain (ankle) has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Chargers, Aric DiLalla of the Broncos' official site reports.
The news doesn't come as a surprise, as Surtain is expected to miss at least two games due to an ankle injury that he sustained against the 49ers in Week 4. The good news is that the injury isn't severe enough for him to go on injured reserve. However, Denver will be without its two starting outside cornerbacks in Surtain and Riley Moss (ribs) for Sunday's AFC West contest, leaving Jahdae Barron and Kris Abrams-Draine to be the starters. The Broncos' Week 6 tilt against the Seahawks is this upcoming Thursday, so Surtain figures to be held out of that game given the short turnaround.

Surtain (ankle) will undergo an MRI on Monday, and while the cornerback is believed to have avoid a season-ending injury, he's expected to miss time, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
Surtain exited in the second half of Sunday's 24-14 loss to the 49ers after going down with the ankle injury on what appeared to be a non-contact play. Fortunately for the three-time Pro Bowler, Surtain appears to have avoided a worst-case scenario after his Achilles was deemed to be fully intact, but he'll most likely be sidelined for a Week 5 game against the Chargers. Rapoport notes that a stint on injured reserve could also be on the table for Surtain, though the Broncos will wait and see what his MRI reveals before providing a clearer timeline for his return.
