The Blue Jays optioned Van Eyk to Triple-A Buffalo after Sunday's 7-0 win over the Mariners.
Van Eyk was called up to the major-league roster Friday and went on deliver a scoreless inning of relief in the team's 8-1 victory over Seattle later that day. The right-hander went unused in the final two games of the series with the Mariners and will now head back to the minors.

Lazaro Montes RF | SEA
Mariners' Lazaro Montes: Set for promotion this week
The Mariners are expected to call up Montes from Triple-A Tacoma on Tuesday, Francys Romero of BeisbolFR.com reports.
Montes will make the leap to the big leagues after slashing .274/.369/.571 with 13 home runs and three stolen bases in 44 games since being bumped up from Double-A Arkansas to Triple-A in early July. The 21-year-old bats from the left side of the plate and has been a full-time right fielder and designated hitter in the minors this season, so he could end up occupying the strong side of a platoon with Taylor Ward, who has mustered a lowly .371 OPS since being acquired from the Orioles on Aug. 3.

Leonardo Bernal C | STL
Cardinals' Leo Bernal: Expected to be called up Tuesday
The Cardinals are expected to promote Bernal from Triple-A Memphis on Tuesday, Francys Romero of BeisbolFR.com reports.
Bernal will make the jump to the major-league level after slashing .278/.363/.468 with 16 home runs and nine stolen bases over 101 contests with Memphis this season. The 22-year-old has played primarily behind the plate, but he has also seen some exposure to first base and designated hitter during his time at Triple-A.

Nick Pivetta SP | SD
Padres' Nick Pivetta: Dominant in rehab start
Pivetta (forearm) struck out seven and allowed two hits and one walk over 4.1 scoreless innings in a rehab start with Triple-A El Paso on Sunday.
Pivetta took a step up in competition Sunday after he made the first two starts of his rehab assignment with Single-A Elsinore. The right-hander had no trouble against the Triple-A competition, tossing 44 of 64 total pitches for strikes over his scoreless outing while sitting around 93 mph with his fastball for most of the game. Pivetta -- who has been on the shelf since April 14 while recovering from a right flexor strain -- will presumably need one more rehab start before rejoining the San Diego rotation.

Konnor Griffin SS | PIT
Pirates' Konnor Griffin: Plays seven innings in first rehab game
Griffin (finger) went 1-for-3 with a pair of strikeouts while playing seven innings at shortstop Sunday in his first rehab game with Double-A Altoona.
Griffin kicked off his rehab assignment Sunday in what was his first game action since landing on the injured list July 6 due to a torn sagittal band on his left ring finger. Per Jason Mackey of MLB.com, the 20-year-old will be in Pittsburgh on Monday for a pre-planned evaluation before the Pirates map out his next steps. Griffin is eligible to be activated from the 60-day injured list Friday, and he could be reinstated on that day if his finger responds well over his subsequent rehab games.

Pete Alonso 1B | BAL
Orioles' Pete Alonso: Avoids injury following early departure
Alonso (head) is expected to be fine after exiting Sunday's 8-5 win in the eighth inning following a hit-by-pitch, Matt Weyrich of The Baltimore Sun reports.
Alonso took a 94.6 mph fastball off the bill of his helmet from reliever Kade Morris to open the top of the eighth inning, and Jackson Holliday immediately replaced him as a pinch-runner at first base. Following the contest, manager Craig Albernaz provided an update on Alonso, stating that the first baseman is "fine" and that the plan was always for Holliday to pinch-run in that situation. Alonso can be considered day-to-day for the time being, but he'll likely be good to go for Monday's series opener with the Rockies.

A.J. Ewing CF | NYM
Mets' A.J. Ewing: Notches steal Sunday
Ewing went 1-for-3 with a double, a walk, a stolen base and a run scored in Sunday's 6-3 loss to the Astros.
Ewing had gone 0-for-11 with four strikeouts over his previous three games. He's now 20 games removed from his last multi-hit effort, but the Mets are out of contention and willing to let the young outfielder get some big-league experience down the stretch. Overall, Ewing is batting .236 with a .659 OPS, seven home runs, 22 steals, 28 RBI, 42 runs scored, 17 doubles and a triple over 96 contests as a rookie this year.
-
Juan Soto LF | NYM
Mets' Juan Soto: Belts homer in loss
Soto went 1-for-3 with a solo home run and a walk in Sunday's 6-3 loss to the Astros.
Soto has gone 2-for-7 over two games since he returned from a month-long absence due to a calf strain. He's served as the designated hitter in both games, and it's unclear if he'll see much action in the field as the Mets continue to evaluate young outfielders A.J. Ewing and Carson Benge down the stretch. For the year, Soto is batting .283 with a .950 OPS, 22 homers, 54 RBI, 48 runs scored, eight doubles, two triples and seven stolen bases over 86 contests.

John Peck SS | DET
Tigers' John Peck: Set for call-up Monday
The Tigers are expected to call up Peck from Triple-A Toledo on Monday, Emily Waldon of Baseball America reports.
Peck looks set for his first taste of the big leagues after slashing .288/.339/.502 with 11 home runs and 22 steals in 70 games across four minor-league levels, with the bulk of his playing time coming at Double-A Erie. With Detroit quickly falling out of contention in the American League playoff picture, Peck could end up getting steady playing time over the final four weeks of the season. He's primarily played at shortstop in the minors but has also gotten exposure to second base and third base.

Francisco Lindor SS | NYM
Mets' Francisco Lindor: Leadoff homer in loss
Lindor went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Sunday's 6-3 loss to the Astros.
Lindor went deep to lead off the bottom of the first inning, answering opposing shortstop and leadoff hitter Jeremy Pena's blast from the top half of the frame. Lindor has gone 7-for-27 (.259) over his last seven games, but he has two homers and two doubles in that span. The shortstop's bat has never really gotten going this year -- he's hitting .234 with a .745 OPS, 14 homers, 34 RBI, 46 runs scored, nine doubles, four triples and three stolen bases across 80 contests in a season marred by a two-month absence due to a calf strain.
