Caballero (finger) played catch Monday, Gary Phillips of the New York Daily News reports.

Caballero has also done some fielding drills in recent days, but Monday marked the first time that he has thrown since fracturing his right middle finger May 10. Yankees manager Aaron Boone reiterated Monday that Caballero still has a chance to be activated from the 10-day injured list Thursday when first eligible, but a decision will depend on how Caballero fares in workouts over the next couple of days. Caballero is expected to reclaim the team's starting shortstop job when he returns, which will likely push Anthony Volpe back to the minors.

Manager Walt Weiss said Monday that Acuna (hamstring) is viewed as day-to-day at this stage in his recovery, but Atlanta may wait until the start of its home series Friday versus the Nationals to activate the star outfielder from the injured list, Chad Bishop of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.

Though Acuna won't be reinstated ahead of Monday's series opener in Miami, Weiss said that the five-time All-Star hasn't been ruled out from returning for any of the final three games of the series versus the Marlins. That said, a weekend return appears more likely for Acuna, given that the synthetic turf at Miami's loanDepot Park could put added stress on the 28-year-old's legs. Acuna has been on the shelf since May 3 due to a Grade 1 left hamstring strain but should be ready to handle an everyday role in right field whenever he's activated.

Manager Aaron Boone said Monday that the Yankees are discussing the possibility of activating Cole (elbow) from the 15-day injured list and having him make his season debut this weekend against the Rays, Chris Kirschner of The Athletic reports.

The Yankees had previously planned for Cole to make one more rehab start this week, but that was before the right-hander struck out six over 5.1 innings of one-run ball in his latest rehab outing with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Sunday. Elmer Rodriguez -- who had been filling the final slot in the Yankees rotation -- was optioned to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre earlier Monday, seemingly clearing the path for Cole's season debut, which would likely fall on Friday. Cole got his pitch count up to 86 on Sunday, so he's sufficiently stretched out. He's coming back from Tommy John surgery with an internal brace that he underwent in March 2025.

Snelling (elbow) will be examined by Dr. Keith Meister in Texas on Thursday, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.

Snelling was placed on the 15-day injured list last Wednesday with a left elbow UCL sprain, but he'll be examined further before a decision is made regarding surgery. Even if Snelling opts for rest and rehab instead of an operation, he is likely looking at a lengthy absence.

Phillies interim manager Don Mattingly said that Schwarber is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Reds due to an illness, Scott Lauber of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports.

Though Schwarber was probably due for a breather sooner or later after starting in each of the Phillies' 47 games of the season, his absence from the lineup isn't a planned rest day. At the same time, Mattingly didn't indicate that Schwarber's illness is an overly serious concern, so the slugger could be available to pitch hit Monday and potentially return to the lineup Tuesday. Bryce Harper will serve as the Phillies' designated hitter Monday in place of Schwarber.

The Mets plan to call up Thornton from Triple-A Syracuse to pitch in Wednesday's game in Washington, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.

New York has yet to announce whether Thornton will be utilized as a starter or a bulk reliever in his MLB debut, but in either case, he'll be assuming the rotation spot of Clay Holmes, who was placed on the injured list over the weekend after fracturing his right fibula during Friday's loss to the Yankees. Thornton, a 24-year-old lefty, isn't regarded as a major prospect but has been highly effective between stops at Double-A Binghamton and Syracuse this season, logging a 3.55 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 33:10 K:BB in six starts. The Mets are expected to get Kodai Senga (spine) back from the IL within the next few weeks, but Thornton could still be well positioned to maintain a more permanent spot in the rotation if he can carry over his success from Double-A and Triple-A in his first taste of the majors.

Suarez (oblique) will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Louisville on Wednesday, Charlie Goldsmith of Fox 19 Now Cincinnati reports.

Suarez's recovery from a left oblique strain has come along more slowly than anticipated, but he's finally progressed to the point of being cleared to play in games. The veteran slugger has been sidelined for nearly a month, so he will likely need a handful of rehab contests before returning from the 10-day injured list.

Buxton (hip) is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Astros.

Buxton will be relegated to the bench for a fifth straight game while he continues to recover from a sore right hip flexor. On a positive note, the Twins remain optimistic that Buxton will avoid a trip to the injured list, with manager Derek Shelton telling Dan Hayes of The Athletic that the veteran outfielder is "very close" to returning to the lineup. James Outman will cover center field in Buxton's stead Monday.

Trevino is expected to miss 3-to-4 weeks after being diagnosed with a Grade 1 left hamstring strain, Charlie Goldsmith of Fox 19 Now Cincinnati reports.

It's the least severe diagnosis Trevino could have hoped for, but he will still require longer than a minimum absence. P.J. Higgins will back up Tyler Stephenson at catcher for the Reds while Trevino is shelved.

Holliday (hand) is with the Orioles in Tampa Bay on Monday but has not yet been activated from the 10-day injured list, Brian Murphy of MLB.com reports.

Holliday looks to be done with his rehab assignment after multiple starts and stops, but the Orioles will wait until at least Tuesday to activate him for his season debut. The 22-year-old is coming back from right hamate surgery, which he had in mid-February. Holliday went 4-for-17 with one home run and a 3:7 BB:K in his last five rehab games at Triple-A Norfolk.
