  • Astros' Christian Vazquez: Goes yard in win

Vazquez went 1-for-2 with a solo home run and a walk in Wednesday's 3-2 win over the Angels. Vazquez has homered in his last two games and now has seven long balls on the year. His blast in the third inning opened the scoring Wednesday. The veteran catcher is hitting .219 with a .628 OPS, 25 RBI, 21 runs scored, one stolen base and seven doubles over 233 plate appearances. Vazquez has seen a slight uptick in playing time lately while Yainer Diaz is stuck in a 3-for-23 slump.

  • Astros' Christian Vazquez: Poaching playing time from Diaz

Vazquez is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Mariners. Though he'll hit the bench for the series finale, Vazquez may have temporarily pushed his way into a timeshare at catcher with the slumping Yainer Diaz. Since closing July with a pair of four-hit games, Diaz has produced a lowly .179/.233/.179 slash line through 12 contests in August. Vazquez drew starts over Diaz in each of the previous three games, going 2-for-6 with a solo home run, a walk and an additional run scored.

  • Astros' Christian Vazquez: Back in No. 2 role

Vazquez is out of the lineup for Monday's game in Toronto. After serving as the Astros' primary option behind the plate for about six weeks, Vazquez has moved down to the No. 2 spot on the depth chart following Yainer Diaz's return from the injured list last Tuesday. In the Astros' ensuing six games, Diaz has made four starts to Vazquez's two.

  • Astros' Christian Vazquez: Handed day off

Vazquez is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Royals. Vazquez will get a breather for the series finale after he had started behind the plate in four straight games. Rookie Collin Price will handle catching duties Sunday.

  • Astros' Christian Vazquez: Idle Tuesday

Vazquez isn't in the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Rangers, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports. Vazquez will take a seat Tuesday after going 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored during Monday's series opener. Cesar Salazar will fill in behind the plate and bat ninth.

  • Astros' Christian Vazquez: Sitting Saturday

Vazquez isn't in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Cubs. Vazquez will get a day off Saturday after going 2-for-4 with a homer and an additional RBI during Friday's win. Cesar Salazar will replace him behind the dish and bat ninth.

  • Astros' Christian Vazquez: Heading to bench Sunday

Vazquez is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Reds. Cesar Salazar will handle catching duties in the series finale. Vazquez is expected to see the bulk of the playing time behind the plate while Yainer Diaz (oblique) remains on the shelf, but he typically bats near the bottom of the lineup and likely won't carry much fantasy value outside of deep two-catcher mixed leagues or AL-only formats.

  • Astros' Christian Vazquez: Absent from lineup

Vazquez is not in the lineup for Wednesday's game versus the Dodgers. Vazquez is at the top of the Astros' catcher depth chart following the injury to Yainer Diaz (oblique), but he'll get some rest during Wednesday's matinee. Cesar Salazar is doing the catching and batting ninth in what will be his season debut with the big club.

  • Astros' Yainer Diaz: Idle Saturday

Diaz is not in the Astros' starting lineup against the Cardinals on Saturday. Diaz will take a seat after starting in both of the Astros' last two games, going 0-for-8 with two strikeouts in that span. Christian Vazquez bat eighth while doing the catching for Lance McCullers.

  • Astros' Christian Vazquez: Homers in loss to St. Louis

Vazquez went 2-for-3 with a solo home run and a walk in Friday's 9-4 loss to the Cardinals. Vazquez got the scoring started for the Astros, taking Kyle Leahy deep for a solo shot in the bottom of the third inning. Three solo homers were the extent of the damage against Leahy. Vazquez has made seven starts this season and has at least one hit in all seven, as he's now slashing .400/.438/.733 with two home runs, 10 RBI, five runs scored and a 2:7 BB:K across 33 trips to the plate.

Vazquez went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Wednesday's 6-4 win over the Red Sox. Making his second start of the season, Vazquez extended Houston's lead to 6-4 with a homer off Danny Coulombe to lead off the seventh inning, his first long ball this year. • Astros' Christian Vazquez: Contract selected

The Astros selected Vazquez's contract from Triple-A Sugar Land on Wednesday. Vazquez will open the season as the Astros' backup catcher behind starter Yainer Diaz. He's hit only .215/.267/.311 the past three seasons in the majors but remains a capable defensive backstop.

Vazquez has made the Astros' Opening Day roster as a backup catcher, Matt Kawahara of the Houston Chronicle reports. Vazquez inked a minor-league contract earlier this month and has won the No. 2 job behind starter Yainer Diaz. The 35-year-old slashed only .215/.267/.311 the past three seasons with the Twins and is unlikely to play much in Houston.

Vazquez went 1-for-1 with two walks and a stolen base in Tuesday's win over the Rangers. He was also hit by a pitch. Vazquez had a productive evening on offense, reaching base four times and even swiping his first bag of the year. Both Vazquez and Ryan Jeffers returned from the injured list on consecutive days to begin the week and the two will likely end up splitting duties once again to close out the season.

  • Twins' Christian Vazquez: Activated from injured list

The Twins activated Vazquez (shoulder) from the 10-day injured list Monday. Vazquez has been shelved since early August following surgery to remove an infection from his left shoulder, but he's ready to go now after a brief rehab assignment. Ryan Jeffers' (concussion) status remains in flux, which could leave Vazquez with regular catching duties in the final week of the season.

Vazquez (shoulder) went 0-for-3 with two walks and a run scored in a rehab appearance with Triple-A St. Paul on Thursday. Vazquez kicked off a rehab stint Thursday, hitting second in the order while serving as the designated hitter. He'll likely need to get some reps behind the plate prior to rejoining the Twins, so he may still be a few days away from being activated off the IL.

Vazquez (shoulder) is expected to begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A St. Paul on Thursday, Dan Hayes of The Athletic reports. He's on the comeback trail now, though, and is expected to return from the 10-day injured list before the end of the season.

  • Twins' Christian Vazquez: Has surgery for shoulder infection

Vazquez underwent surgery due to remove an infection from his left shoulder and will remain at his home in Florida for about two more weeks, MLB.com reports. He will be on a course of antibiotics for three weeks. The Twins haven't ruled out Vazquez from returning this season, but that seems like a long shot given his treatment schedule and with the Twins out of the playoff hunt.

  • Twins' Christian Vazquez: Heads to IL

The Twins placed Vazquez on the 10-day injured list Friday due to a left shoulder infection. The issue is with his non-throwing shoulder, but it will still require a stint on the injured list. The 34-year-old Vazquez will be eligible to return for the start of a three-game homestand against the Athletics which begins Aug. 19. Until then, Jhonny Pereda and Mickey Gasper will provide catching depth behind Ryan Jeffers.

  • Twins' Christian Vazquez: Filling in for Jeffers

Vazquez will start at catcher and bat eighth in Monday's game against the Red Sox. Vazquez will draw a third consecutive start behind the dish, but he'll likely see his playing time scaled back once top backstop Ryan Jeffers (personal) returns from the paternity list. The 34-year-old Vazquez has struggled to get much going offensively in 2025; he'll enter Monday's contest with a .527 OPS, the lowest mark of his 11-year big-league career.
