The Nationals designated Fernandez (undisclosed) for assignment Friday.

The right-hander has been on the 7-day injured list at Triple-A Rochester with an unspecified injury for nearly a month, and he's now lost his place on the 40-man roster. Fernandez made three appearances with Washington early this season and gave up one earned runs with a 3:2 K:BB across four innings.

The Athletics reinstated Wilson (shoulder) from the 10-day injured list Friday.

Wilson has been given the green light to return to the Athletics after fully recovering from a dislocated left shoulder that he suffered in early May. Now that he's back in the picture, Alika Williams is set to see less playing time in the infield. The move corresponds with Brent Rooker (knee) being placed on the 10-day injured list.

Schanuel (calf) is not in the Angels' starting lineup against the Rays on Friday, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports.

Schanuel will be out of the Halos' lineup for a second consecutive game while dealing with a left calf injury that he sustained after he took a pitch off his leg during Tuesday's game against the Astros. Trey Mancini will serve as the Angels' first baseman and bat fifth in Friday's game.

Atlanta released Handley on Friday.

Handley was claimed off waivers from Baltimore on May 21 and was optioned to Triple-A Gwinnett, where he played in five games over the past couple weeks. The journeyman catcher has a .324/.415/.382 slash line in 41 plate appearances in the minor leagues this season.

Meyers is not in the Astros' starting lineup against the Royals on Friday, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.

Meyers will take a seat while the Astros start Joey Loperfido, Taylor Trammell and Cam Smith in the outfield from left to right. Meyers has gone 4-for-27 (.148) with two RBI over his last nine games.

The Diamondbacks paused Puk's (elbow) rehab Friday due to left shoulder discomfort, Nick Piecoro of The Arizona Republic reports.

Puk has spent the entire season working his way back from an internal brace procedure he received last June and was cleared to begin a rehab assignment in late May. However, he hasn't pitched in a game since last Friday and is now slated for an MRI on his shoulder following a setback. An updated timeline for his return will likely be available once his test results come back.

The Tigers designated Short for assignment Friday.

The Tigers needed to make room on the 40-man roster after claiming James Outman off waivers. Short had been losing out on playing time, and with Zach McKinstry playing more infield following the addition of Outman, there was simply no role left for Short, per Jason Beck of MLB.com. Short is slashing .167/.304/.222 with two RBI over 46 plate appearances this season.

The Tigers optioned Hanifee to Triple-A Toledo on Friday.

Both Hanifee and Beau Brieske will head down to Toledo in order to make room on the Tigers' 26-man roster for Kenley Jansen and Jacob Waguespack. Hanifee has appeared in 14 games (two starts) for the Tigers this season and has a 3.29 ERA, 1.39 WHIP and two holds over 13.2 innings. He could get another crack at major-league action should Detroit need right-handed depth out of the bullpen.

Stewart (foot) will begin a rehab assignment at Single-A Ontario on Friday.

Stewart began facing live hitters in batting practice last weekend, and he's now been cleared to return to a competitive setting as he enters the final stretch in his recovery from a bone spur in his left foot. It's unclear exactly how long the Dodgers plan to keep the right-hander in the minors, but he could require a handful of rehab appearances after sitting out more than a month.

The Tigers optioned Brieske to Triple-A Toledo following Thursday's game against the Twins.

Both Brieske and Brenan Hanifee will head down to Triple-A to make room on the Tigers' 26-man roster for both Kenley Jansen and Jacob Waguespack. Brieske has tossed 2.2 scoreless innings over his last two outings and could return to the majors this season should the Tigers require right-handed depth out of the bullpen.
