Giants' Jose Butto: Diagnosed with blood clot

Butto was diagnosed with a blood clot in his right arm and will undergo a procedure Friday to remove it, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.

Butto exited his appearance Wednesday alongside a trainer before landing on the injured list Thursday with right forearm fatigue. The Giants haven't announced a timeline for the 28-year-old's return, but he's now likely to spend far more time on the injured list than the 15-day minimum.

  • Grant Taylor RP | CHW

White Sox's Grant Taylor: Opening again Saturday

Taylor will serve as the White Sox's opening pitcher again Saturday against the Blue Jays, Scott Merkin of MLB.com reports.

Taylor started Friday's contest with a scoreless frame before handing things over to Sean Burke in a game Chicago won in 10 innings. The team will go right back to the well Saturday with Taylor opening ahead of Anthony Kay. Taylor now sits with a 3.00 ERA, 1.67 WHIP and 5:2 K:BB across three innings this season.

  • Royals' Luinder Avila: Rained out Friday

Avila will not make his scheduled start Friday against the Brewers, as the game has been postponed due to inclement weather.

Friday's game will be made up right away Saturday as part of a split doubleheader. Avila was set for a spot start with Michael Wacha under the weather, and Avila will still get his opportunity in Saturday's matinee, per Anne Rogers of MLB.com.

  • Chad Patrick RP | MIL

Brewers' Chad Patrick: Friday's game postponed

Patrick won't make his scheduled start Friday against the Royals, as the game has been postponed due to inclement weather.

The game will be made up right away Saturday as part of a split doubleheader, and Patrick will simply move back to start the afternoon game for Milwaukee, Todd Rosiak of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports. Patrick allowed one run on five hits and one walk while striking out four over 4.1 innings in a no-decision against the White Sox in his first start of the regular season.

  • Jorge Polanco 1B | NYM

    Mets' Jorge Polanco: Sitting Friday

Polanco is not in the starting lineup for Friday's game against the Giants.

Mark Vientos will be rewarded with another start, this time at DH, after homering in Thursday's win. Brett Baty gets the nod at first base. Polanco is off to a slow start to begin his Mets career with a .582 OPS through 28 plate appearances.

  • Mason Fluharty RP | TOR

Blue Jays' Mason Fluharty: Opening Saturday's game

Fluharty will start Saturday's game against the White Sox, Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet.ca reports.

The Blue Jays will go with a bullpen game in the absence of Cody Ponce (knee), who went down with a sprained right ACL in his team debut Monday. Fluharty hasn't recorded more than two outs in any of his four appearances so far this season. Lazaro Estrada seems the most likely candidate to handle the bulk of the innings for Toronto.

  • Joe Ross RP | ARI

Diamondbacks' Joe Ross: Removed from 40-man roster

Ross was designated for assignment by the Diamondbacks on Friday, Alex Weiner of ArizonaSports.com reports.

Ross broke camp with the big club but quickly pitched his way off the roster, allowing eight earned runs on seven hits and four walks while striking out two across 3.2 innings out of the Arizona bullpen to begin the 2026 season. Taylor Rashi's contract was selected in a corresponding move.

  • Taylor Rashi RP | ARI

Diamondbacks' Taylor Rashi: Joining big club

The Diamondbacks selected Rashi's contract from Triple-A Reno on Friday.

The right-hander missed out on Arizona's Opening Day roster but will now get a look in the big leagues. Rashi made 10 appearances in his first taste of the majors last year and posted a 4.41 ERA, 1.47 WHIP and 22:8 K:BB across 16.1 innings.

  • Diamondbacks' Adrian Del Castillo: Back from IL

Del Castillo (calf) was reinstated from the 10-day injured list Friday.

The 26-year-old opened the season on the injured list due to a calf strain, but he's good to go after a two-game rehab assignment with Triple-A Reno. Del Castillo seemed to have a decent path to playing time when Pavin Smith (elbow) landed on the IL, but Jose Fernandez made a huge impact in his MLB debut this week and is likely to get his fair amount of chances in the short term.

  • Patrick Corbin SP | TOR

Blue Jays' Patrick Corbin: Signs with Toronto

The Blue Jays signed Corbin to a one-year contract and optioned him to Single-A Dunedin on Friday.

Toronto, already without Shane Bieber (elbow), Trey Yesavage (shoulder) and Jose Berrios (elbow) to begin the 2026 season, just lost Cody Ponce (knee) for an extended period of time this week. Corbin will help replenish the team's starting depth and could be a candidate for the fifth spot in the rotation once he's fully stretched out in the minors, although Yesavage and Berrios could both be ready to go before then. The veteran southpaw put up a 4.40 ERA, 1.36 WHIP and 131:51 K:BB in 155.1 innings spanning 31 appearances (30 starts) with the Rangers last season.
