  • Willy Adames SS | SF

Giants' Willy Adames: Doubles in victory

Adames went 1-for-3 with a double and a walk in Friday's 5-1 extra-inning win over the Dodgers.

Adames lined a double to center field in the first inning, marking his second two-bagger in his last four games. He's batting .286 with a home run and a 2:3 BB:K across 16 plate appearances during that span. In 49 outings since the All-Star break, Adames is slashing .247/.340/.544 with 34 runs scored, 33 RBI, 16 home runs, six doubles and five stolen bases in 212 plate appearances.

  • Riley Adams C | WAS

Nationals' Riley Adams: Taking seat Saturday

Adams is not in Washington's lineup Saturday versus Pittsburgh, Mark Zuckerman of MASNSports.com reports.

Adams missed a game earlier in the week due to a groin issue, but there's no indication that his absence Saturday is related. Upon returning to the lineup, he started back-to-back contests and went 0-fof-5 with a walk and three strikeouts. Jorge Alfaro is starting behind the dish in Adams' stead Saturday.

  • Masyn Winn SS | STL

Cardinals' Masyn Winn: Officially put on IL

Winn (knee) was placed on the 10-day injured list Saturday.

Winn was originally slated to start Friday's series opener against Milwaukee, but he was scratched before the start of the contest. The Cardinals subsequently decided to rule him out for the season since he hasn't recovered as well as hoped from a torn meniscus in his right knee. With Winn officially landing on the IL on Saturday, his big-league roster spot was filled by infielder Jose Fermin.

  • Jose Fermin LF | STL

Cardinals' Jose Fermin: Officially called up

The Cardinals recalled Fermin from Triple-A Memphis on Saturday.

This move had been anticipated after Masyn Winn was shut down for the season Friday due to a knee injury. Fermin was just optioned to Memphis on Friday, and he didn't get into any games with the Redbirds during his latest (and briefest) time on their roster. Now that Fermin is back with the Cardinals, he'll likely serve as a utility infielder.

  • Rhett Lowder SP | CIN

Reds' Rhett Lowder: Beginning assignment Saturday

Lowder (oblique) will begin a rehab assignment at Triple-A Louisville on Saturday.

Lowder has sat out the entire season while working his way back from injuries to his forearm and, more recently, his oblique. The Reds haven't ruled out a late-season return for the 23-year-old righty, though he would need a relatively quick rehab assignment to have time to make an appearance for the Reds before the end of the season.

  • Dominic Hamel RP | NYY

Mets' Dom Hamel: Back in Queens

The Mets recalled Hamel from Triple-A Syracuse on Saturday.

Since his demotion to Triple-A in August, Hamel has posted a 7.53 ERA and 1.60 WHIP across 14.1 innings. Despite his recent performance, he'll rejoin the big club to provide depth out of the bullpen, replacing Huascar Brazoban.

  • Mets' Huascar Brazoban: Back in minors

The Mets optioned Brazoban to Triple-A Syracuse on Saturday.

After pitching 3.1 shutout innings Friday, Brazoban will be sent back to the minors in favor of a fresh arm in the form of Dom Hamel. The 35-year-old Brazoban owns a 3.67 ERA and 1.30 WHIP with the Mets this season, which helps his chances of returning to Queens before the end of the regular season.

  • Jose Fermin LF | STL

Cardinals' Jose Fermin: Set to be recalled

Fermin will be recalled from Triple-A Memphis on Saturday to take the roster spot vacated by Masyn Winn (knee), Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.

Fermin was just sent down Friday to accommodate the return of Brendan Donovan, but he'll rejoin the roster a day later after the Cardinals decided to shut Winn down for the season. While Fermin could see the occasional rep at shortstop while Winn is shelved, he'll likely operate mostly as a reserve infielder in the final weeks.

  • Thomas Saggese LF | STL

Cardinals' Thomas Saggese: Taking over at shortstop

Saggese will take over as the Cardinals' primary shortstop with Masyn Winn (knee) being shut down for the season, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports.

With Brendan Donovan back from the injured list and at second base Friday, Saggese had appeared set for his playing time to dip. However, he's now needed at shortstop, which should keep him in the lineup on a regular basis down the stretch. Saggese has been unable to capitalize on regular reps since the start of August, slashing just .262/.305/.311 with no home runs and a 40:7 K:BB.

  • Kodai Senga SP | NYM

Mets' Kodai Senga: Makes case to return to majors

Senga struck out eight batters and allowed one earned run on three hits and no walks over six innings in a start for Triple-A Syracuse on Friday.

The 32-year-old right-hander signed off on being optioned to the minors last week to try and get right after stumbling to a 6.56 ERA, 1.71 WHIP and 35:22 over his last eight starts and 35.2 innings for the Mets. Senga's first turn in the Syracuse rotation provided a great deal of hope that he might still be able to boost New York's fading playoff hopes, as he fired 52 of 74 pitches for strikes in an efficient performance. Per Jared Greenspan of MLB.com, the Mets' original plan was to have Senga make two starts at Triple-A to get used to some mechanical tweaks before a return to the majors was considered, but with Jonah Tong having been pummeled by the Rangers on Friday and the Mets' lead over the Giants for the final wild-card spot in the National League having slipped to half a game, the organization may not be able to afford that kind of patience. Absent the Mets moving a player to the injured list to create a spot on the 28-man active roster for him, however, Senga isn't eligible to return to the Mets until Sept. 20.
