  • Giants' Daniel Susac: Season comes to close

The Giants transferred Susac (knee) from the 10-day injured list to the 60-day injured list Wednesday. Susac's rookie season will officially come to a close after he was initially placed on the IL last week due to a left knee patella fracture. Per MLB.com, Susac appears set to avoid surgery but will spend the next three weeks resting and rehabbing before he resumes baseball activities. He looks like he could be in line for a fairly normal offseason, setting the stage for Susac to be ready to go for the start of spring training. A Rule 5 Draft pick over the winter, the 25-year-old catcher slashed .243/.289/.375 with three home runs, two steals, 22 RBI and 11 runs over 161 plate appearances with the Giants.

  • Giants' Daniel Susac: Moved to injured list

Susac (knee) was placed on the 10-day injured list Monday. Susac was diagnosed with a fractured left patella earlier in the day Monday and is unlikely to return this season. Zach Morgan had his contract selected from Triple-A Sacramento in a corresponding move.

  • Giants' Daniel Susac: Diagnosed with fractured patella

Susac has been diagnosed with a left knee patella fracture, Justice delos Santos of The San Jose Mercury News reports. Susac suffered the injury when he fouled a ball off his knee during Sunday's game versus the Tigers. The initial prognosis was a contusion, but an MRI revealed a fracture. Susac will meet with doctors Tuesday to determine the next course of action, but it's likely the injury ends his season. With Jesus Rodriguez (elbow) also sidelined, Drew Cavanaugh is the only healthy catcher on the Giants' 40-man roster.

  • Giants' Daniel Susac: Sustains knee contusion Sunday

Giants manager Tony Vitello said that Susac exited Sunday's 3-1 extra-inning loss to the Tigers in the bottom of the seventh due to a left knee contusion, Justice delos Santos of The San Jose Mercury News reports. Susac went 0-for-2 with a strikeout prior to his departure. Susac fouled a ball of his knee in the bottom of the fifth and exited the game the next time his turn in the batting order came up two innings later. Fortunately for Susac, Vitello said that X-rays on the rookie catcher's knee returned negative. The 25-year-old is dealing with a significant amount of swelling in his knee and is considered day-to-day heading into Monday's series opener versus the Astros.

  • Giants' Daniel Susac: Doubles in defeat

Susac went 2-for-4 with a double in Saturday's 6-5 loss to the Padres. Susac lined a leadoff double to center field in the sixth inning and singled in the eighth. He's recorded at least one hit in each of his last three games and is batting .280 with eight RBI, five runs scored, three home runs and a stolen base in 29 plate appearances since returning from the injured list after the All-Star break. On the year, he's slashing .266/.310/.406 with 22 RBI, 10 runs scored, three long balls and two stolen bases across 144 plate appearances.

  • Giants' Daniel Susac: Goes deep again Thursday

Susac went 1-for-3 with a home run and three total RBI in a 4-1 victory versus San Diego on Thursday. Susac belted a two-run homer in the second inning and added a sacrifice fly in the fifth. After going homerless across his first 44 career MLB games, the backstop has now launched three homers over his past two contests. Susac had 18 home runs across 96 games in Triple-A last season, so the sudden homer surge isn't entirely incomprehensible. With that said, his StatCast power metrics are all below league average, so fantasy managers probably shouldn't expect Susac to turn into the second coming of Mike Piazza.

  • Giants' Daniel Susac: Taking seat Sunday

Susac is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Angels. After starting in the Giants' previous two contests, Susac will head to the bench for the series finale while Drew Cavanaugh gets the nod behind the plate. Susac and Cavanaugh are likely to continue sharing most of the playing time at catcher, with Jesus Rodriguez seeing occasional reps as a third option at the position.

  • Giants' Daniel Susac: Resting up Wednesday

Susac is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Royals, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. Susac will take a seat for the matinee game after he went 2-for-3 with a double and a stolen base while catching 8.1 innings of Tuesday's 4-3 loss. Drew Cavanaugh will receive a turn behind the plate in the series finale.

  • Giants' Daniel Susac: Out of San Francisco lineup

Susac is not in the lineup for Tuesday's tilt in Kansas City. The Giants have eased Susac back into things following his return from the injured list last week, as this is the third time he's been on the bench in five games. It will be Jesus Rodriguez's turn behind the plate Tuesday.

  • Giants' Daniel Susac: Begins rehab assignment

Susac (back) began a rehab assignment with Triple-A Sacramento on Thursday, going 0-for-3 with a strikeout. Susac has been shelved for the past two weeks with a lower-back strain. He was used at designated hitter in his first rehab contest, and the Giants will surely want him to play at least a game or two at catcher before returning the rookie to the active roster, which could happen immediately after the All-Star break.

  • Giants' Daniel Susac: Dealing with back issue

Susac exited Thursday's contest against the Athletics in the sixth inning as a result of back tightness, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. Susac was forced out of the game ahead of his at-bat in the bottom of the sixth inning, ultimately being replaced by Eric Haase behind the plate. Susac finished his day having gone 0-for-2 with a strikeout. He should be considered day-to-day ahead of Friday's series opener at home against Atlanta.

Susac is not in the lineup for Wednesday's matchup against Atlanta, reports Shayna Rubin of the San Francisco Chronicle. Eric Haase will receive the nod at catcher as the Giants kick off a four-game set in Milwaukee.

  • Giants' Daniel Susac: Resting Tuesday

Susac is not in the lineup Tuesday versus the Diamondbacks. Susac went 1-for-11 in the three games he started after his last game on the bench May 22. As he rests Tuesday, Eric Haase starts behind the plate, batting eighth.

  • Giants' Daniel Susac: Activated from IL, starting Friday

The Giants activated Susac (elbow) from the 10-day injured list Friday. Susac landed on the 10-day injured list in late April due to right elbow neuritis. He was cleared for a rehab assignment in early May and went 9-for-17 (.529) with two home runs, five RBI and a steal across five minor-league outings. Per Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area, Susac is starting at catcher and batting eighth against the Athletics on Friday, which means Jesus Rodriguez will revert to a backup role while Eric Haase operates as the third option behind the plate. Christian Koss was optioned to Triple-A Sacramento in a corresponding move.

  • Giants' Daniel Susac: Multi-hit effort in rehab game

Susac (elbow) went 2-for-4 in Triple-A Sacramento's 2-1 loss to Reno on Friday. Susac made his second rehab appearance in as many days, logging multiple hits in both contests. The 24-year-old catcher singled twice Friday and has gone 5-for-8 with three RBI and two long balls across eight plate appearances with Triple-A Sacramento. With Patrick Bailey now in Cleveland, Susac will likely step into a sizable role once he's reinstated from the injured list.

  • Giants' Daniel Susac: Cleared for rehab assignment

Susac (elbow) will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Sacramento on Thursday, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports. Susac has missed the last two weeks of action with right elbow neuritis, but he's upped his workouts recently and is ready to test things out in a game setting. The rookie catcher had worked his way into a timeshare with Patrick Bailey before getting injured, and with Bailey still struggling, Susac should play plenty once he's activated.

  • Giants' Daniel Susac: Lands on IL

The Giants placed Susac on the 10-day injured list Tuesday with right elbow neuritis, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. Susac is expected to miss 2-to-3 weeks, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports. Susac has gone 11-for-23 at the plate in the big leagues this season and seemed to be on his way toward splitting reps behind the plate with Patrick Bailey, but the former will now have to wait at least 10 days before he gets another opportunity to start. Eric Haase will come up from Triple-A Sacramento to give the Giants depth at catcher.

  • Giants' Daniel Susac: Could split starts with Bailey

Giants manager Tony Vitello indicated Thursday that Susac could start splitting starts at catcher with Patrick Bailey, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. Susac has made only four starts so far this season, but he's gone 9-for-16 with five RBI in the early going. The Rule 5 pick is likely to get exposed to some degree with additional playing time, but he's earned more reps over Bailey, who is slashing just .136/.191/.136.
