  • Cardinals' Willson Contreras: Banged-up, sitting Sunday

Contreras is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Brewers, with manager Oliver Marmol saying the first baseman is "pretty beat up" after being hit by a pitch twice Saturday, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports.

Contreras is no stranger to hit-by-pitches, as he's now been plunked three times in the past three games and 23 times overall this year. The 33-year-old doesn't seem to be dealing with any serious injuries and could be available off the bench Sunday.

  • Mets' Starling Marte: Benefiting from LHP-heavy schedule

Marte will start at designated hitter and bat seventh in Sunday's game against the Rangers.

Marte will claim his fifth start in six games, with each coming against a left-handed pitcher. The veteran outfielder/designated hitter is slashing just .231/.231/.269 since the start of September and will likely remain in a short-side platoon role for the rest of the season.

  • Brett Baty 3B | NYM

Mets' Brett Baty: Sitting versus lefty

Baty is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Rangers, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.

It's the third baseman's fifth absence in New York's past six games, with all of those absences coming versus left-handed starting pitchers. Baty has been filling the strong side of a platoon at third base and has a .762 OPS through 10 games in September, which should be enough for him to retain that role despite the recent downturn in playing time.

  • Marlins' Heriberto Hernandez: On bench Sunday

Hernandez is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Tigers.

Hernandez started the previous 14 games, but he'll take a seat Sunday after going 12-for-49 (.245 average) with four doubles and a homer during that span. Liam Hicks is receiving a turn at designated hitter, opening up first base for Eric Wagaman.

  • Cam Sanders RP | PIT

Pirates' Cam Sanders: Getting another look in majors

The Pirates recalled Sanders from Triple-A Indianapolis on Sunday, Kevin Gorman of TribLive.com reports.

This will be Sanders' third promotion to the big-league club since early August. In five appearances so far, he's allowed five runs with a 4:4 K:BB over five innings. Sanders' stay in the majors could be short this time around, as he was called up to take the bullpen spot of Yohan Ramirez, who can miss up to three games while on the paternity list.

  • Yohan Ramirez RP | PIT

Pirates' Yohan Ramirez: Placed on paternity list

The Pirates placed Ramirez on the paternity list Sunday, Kevin Gorman of TribLive.com reports.

Ramirez will be able to take up to three days away from the team to be with his growing family. The right-hander hasn't seen much high-leverage work of late, as his most recent hold came July 26 against Arizona. To fill Ramirez's spot in the bullpen and on the 26-man roster, Pittsburgh recalled righty hurler Cam Sanders from Triple-A Indianapolis.

  • Edmundo Sosa 2B | PHI

Phillies' Edmundo Sosa: Sitting again Sunday

Sosa (groin) is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Royals.

Sosa will sit for a second straight game after exiting Friday's contest due to groin tightness. Bryson Stott will shift to shortstop while Weston Wilson picks up a start at second base in Sunday's series finale.

  • Braves' Drake Baldwin: Resting Sunday

Baldwin is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Astros.

Baldwin had started in each of the last nine games -- eight at catcher, one at designated hitter -- but he'll get a well-deserved breather for Sunday's matinee. Sandy Leon will step in behind the plate in the rookie's stead.

  • Max Kepler RF | PHI

Phillies' Max Kepler: Idle against southpaw

Kepler is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Royals.

With southpaw Noah Cameron on the bump for Kansas City, the left-handed-hitting Kepler will bow out of the lineup for the series finale. He'll cede his spot in the outfield to Nick Castellanos.

  • Seiya Suzuki RF | CHC

Cubs' Seiya Suzuki: On bench for third straight

Suzuki (illness) is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Rays.

Suzuki is sitting for a third consecutive game while battling an illness. Moises Ballesteros started at designated hitter for the first two games and is doing so again Sunday for the series finale versus Tampa Bay.
