Jake Cave LF | COL
Rockies' Jake Cave: Hitting bench Wednesday
Cave is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Athletics.
Though he'll hit the bench Wednesday against right-hander Mitch Spence, the lefty-hitting Cave could still be included in the lineup versus righties more often than not, at least until Nolan Jones (back) returns from the injured list. Cave looked to be at risk of losing out on playing time when Kris Bryant was activated Tuesday, but Cave started in right field in the Rockies' series-opening loss and went 1-for-4 to extend his hitting streak to seven games. Rather than Cave, Elehuris Montero has been the main loser thus far since Bryant's return, as Montero has sat out twice in a row.

Elehuris Montero 1B | COL
Rockies' Elehuris Montero: Sitting in second straight
Montero is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Athletics.
Kris Bryant will make a second straight start at first base since his return from the injured list Tuesday, with Montero hitting the bench for both contests. The 25-year-old could still see regular playing time against left-handed pitching, but Montero looks like he'll be the odd man out of the lineup versus righties for now. Despite seeing everyday playing time for most of the season, Montero has disappointed with an underwhelming .582 OPS through 153 plate appearances.

Mike Tauchman CF | NYM
Cubs' Mike Tauchman: Sitting against lefty
Tauchman is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against Atlanta.
The lefty-hitting Tauchman will retreat to the bench Wednesday while southpaw Max Fried takes the hill for Atlanta. He'll indirectly cede his spot in the lineup to infielder Nick Madrigal, who draws the start at third base while Christopher Morel replaces Tauchman as the Cubs' designated hitter.

Michael Busch 1B | CHC
Cubs' Michael Busch: Sitting against southpaw
Busch is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against Atlanta.
With a tough southpaw in Max Fried on the mound for Atlanta, the lefty-hitting Busch will retreat to the bench. Patrick Wisdom will replace Busch at first base.

Jake McCarthy LF | COL
Diamondbacks' Jake McCarthy: Day off Wednesday
McCarthy isn't in the Diamondbacks' lineup for Wednesday's game against the Dodgers.
McCarthy will sit down for Wednesday's series finale after going 3-for-8 with a solo homer during the first two games of the series. Randal Grichuk will take over in right field and bat sixth.

Garrett Mitchell CF | MIL
Brewers' Garrett Mitchell: Targeting mid-June return
Mitchell (finger) is aiming to return from the 60-day injured list ahead of the Brewers' series against the Angels on June 17, Todd Rosiak of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.
Mitchell is slated to begin hitting off a tee this weekend while the Brewers are in Boston. After that, he will head to the team's complex in Arizona to continue rehabbing and take at-bats in ACL games before officially beginning a rehab assignment with one of Milwaukee's minor-league affiliates. The 25-year-old outfielder has been on the IL all season due to a fractured finger on his left hand and will have to compete for playing time in a crowded Brewers outfield once he returns.

Zack Short SS | NYM
Braves' Zack Short: Filling in for injured Riley
Short will start at third base and bat ninth in Wednesday's game against the Cubs.
Short will draw a ninth consecutive start at the hot corner while Austin Riley (side) remains day-to-day. The 28-year-old has delivered a solid .345 on-base percentage over his prior eight starts, but he's provided little fantasy value with a .208 average, zero home runs or stolen bases and two RBI and runs during that stretch. He'll fall back into a light role once Riley is cleared to return to the lineup.
-
Jarred Kelenic LF | TEX
Braves' Jarred Kelenic: Sitting against southpaw
Kelenic is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Cubs.
The left-handed-hitting Kelenic will take a seat Wednesday while southpaw Justin Steele takes the hill for Chicago. Platoon mate Adam Duvall will fill in for Kelenic in left field.

Joey Meneses 1B | ATH
Nationals' Joey Meneses: Homers Wednesday
Meneses went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in Wednesday's 3-2 loss to Minnesota.
Meneses made things interesting in the ninth inning Wednesday, launching a solo shot off Jhoan Duran to lead off the frame. The 32-year-old Meneses had gotten off to a slow start this year, though he's now 6-for-17 with a pair of extra-base hits in his last three contests. Overall, he's slashing .234/.299/.299 with two homers, 24 RBI and nine runs scored through 43 games on the campaign.

Slade Cecconi SP | CLE
Diamondbacks' Slade Cecconi: Returns to Triple-A
The Diamondbacks optioned Cecconi to Triple-A Reno on Wednesday.
The right-hander followed an opener Monday against the Dodgers but still took the loss after he was tagged for six runs over five innings. Cecconi pitched well in his first two starts for the Diamondbacks in late April with just three runs allowed, but in four subsequent outings he has an 8.41 ERA and 11:7 K:BB, and he's given up seven homers during that stretch.
