Nolan Arenado 3B | ARI
Cardinals' Nolan Arenado: Aiming for Saturday return
Arenado (elbow) said after Wednesday's 4-3 loss to the Marlins that he expects to return to the lineup Saturday versus the Giants in St. Louis, Paige Leckie of MLB.com reports.
Arenado was lifted for a pinch runner in the top of the eighth inning after he took a 94 mile-per-hour sinker to his right elbow in his fourth plate appearance of the afternoon. Before departing, Arenado went 2-for-3 with a stolen base and a run scored. Though Arenado has been diagnosed with a bruised right elbow after initial X-rays returned negative, he noted that the pitch hit him in a nerve in the elbow that caused his hand to cramp up. Based on his postgame comments, Arenado already seems to be ruling himself out for Thursday's series opener with the Giants at Rickwood Field in Birmingham, Ala., but he's counting on being ready to go coming out of Friday's off day.

David Bednar RP | NYY
Pirates' David Bednar: Locks down 16th save

It's the second straight hitless appearance from Bednar after he allowed home runs in each of his previous two outings. Still, the right-hander has been solid of late following a rocky start to the campaign, allowing just three runs in his last 17.1 innings. Overall, Bednar's converted 16 of 19 save opportunities this year while pitching to a 5.17 ERA, 1.12 WHIP and 32:7 K:BB across 31.1 innings.

However, Keller wouldn't factor into the decision, as the Pirates couldn't get on the board until Bryan Reynolds homered in the eighth, providing the lone run in a 1-0 victory. Keller's been excellent since the start of May, pitching to a 1.53 ERA over his last eight outings. Overall, the right-hander's 8-4 with a 3.11 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and 85:24 K:BB across 15 starts (92.2 innings) this season. However, the right-hander was stuck with a no-decision, as the Reds couldn't break through against Mitch Keller in an eventual 1-0 loss. Still, it was an impressive performance from the 24-year-old Greene, who had struggled to a 5.60 ERA while issuing 12 walks over 17.2 innings in his previous three starts. Overall, he's 5-2 on the year with a 3.35 ERA, 1.12 WHIP and 98:37 K:BB across 88.2 innings. Greene's currently scheduled for a rematch with the Pirates at home in his next start.
