  • Logan Webb SP | SF

Giants' Logan Webb: Roughed up in loss

Webb (7-7) took the loss against the Blue Jays on Wednesday, allowing seven runs on eight hits and one walk over five innings while striking out four.

Webb started the game strong, striking out three of the first six batters he faced while holding the Blue Jays scoreless over the first four innings. However, things began to unravel for the veteran right-hander in the fifth when he surrendered a three-run shot to Ernie Clement after giving up singles to two of the first three batters in the frame. Webb returned for the sixth, but he failed to retire any of the first four batters he faced before being relieved by Sean Hjelle, who didn't fare much better. Webb was charged with a season-high seven runs on the night and was unable to get through six innings for the first time in his last 12 starts. He has also surrendered multiple runs in eight consecutive outings.

  • Marcell Ozuna DH | PIT

Braves' Marcell Ozuna: Slugs 24th homer

Ozuna went 2-for-4 with a two-run homer and two runs scored in Wednesday's loss to the Diamondbacks.

The All-Star slugger singled in his first at-bat before coming home on a Travis d'Arnaud double in the second as Atlanta took an early 2-0 lead. Ozuna then launched a 441-foot home run in the eighth to score Austin Riley and tie the game at 5-5. It was Ozuna's second consecutive two-hit performance, and he's now fourth in the majors with 24 long balls on the season, and third in RBI with 75. He's batting .257 (9-for-35) in July with three homers, eight RBI and seven runs scored.

  • Paul Sewald RP | TOR

Diamondbacks' Paul Sewald: Nabs 12th save

Sewald pitched a perfect ninth inning to pick up the save over Atlanta on Wednesday.

Sewald entered the contest with a two-run lead in the ninth and needed only eight pitches to retire the side for his 12th save of the campaign. It was a nice bounce-back effort for the closer, who had allowed multiple runs and blown a save in his previous three outings. It was also Sewald's third appearance in which he didn't allow any hits or walks over his last six.

  • Charlie Morton SP | ATL

Braves' Charlie Morton: Allows two homers in no-decision

Morton did not factor into the decision in a loss to the Diamondbacks on Wednesday, allowing four runs on five hits over 6.1 innings while striking out five.

Most of the damage against Morton came in the second and third innings when the veteran surrendered home runs to Eugenio Suarez and Ketel Marte. The right-hander would then cruise through the next three frames before being relieved by Pierce Johnson with one out in the seventh, though a fourth run ended up being charged to Morton's ledger. The 40-year-old has now allowed two home runs in back-to-back starts and has given up at least three runs in four of his last six outings. However, he's also tallied five or more strikeouts in three consecutive starts.

  • Jake Fraley RF | TB

Reds' Jake Fraley: Almost pinch hits

Fraley was announced as a pinch hitter in the ninth inning but was then replaced after a pitching change in Wednesday's 6-5 loss to the Rockies.

Fraley was sent up to hit for Austin Slater, but he was pulled back in favor of Austin Wynns after Colorado brought in left-hander Jalen Beeks. Fraley, who had been away from the team on a personal leave, was reinstated to the active roster Wednesday. The Rockies are scheduled to throw lefty Austin Gomber on Thursday, so it's unlikely Fraley will start.

  • Reds' Austin Slater: Debuts for new team

Slater started in center field and went 1-for-3 in Wednesday's 6-5 loss to Colorado.

Slater made his first appearance as a member of the team after Cincinnati acquired him from the Giants on Sunday. He could be a regular in the lineup heading into the All-Star break and shortly thereafter. Reds manager David Bell said TJ Friedl (hamstring) could rejoin the team 7-to-10 days after the break.

  • Diamondbacks' Geraldo Perdomo: Three hits in return to lineup

Perdomo went 3-for-3 with two doubles, an RBI and two runs scored in Wednesday's 7-5 win over Atlanta.

Perdomo, who was given Tuesday off, returned to the lineup Wednesday and extended a hit streak to five games. He's hit safely in eight of the last nine contests, going 12-for-34 (.353) with three doubles, a triple, five RBI and eight runs scored during that stretch.

  • Ketel Marte 2B | ARI

Diamondbacks' Ketel Marte: Homers in win

Marte went 2-for-4 with a solo home run and an additional run scored in Wednesday's 7-5 win over Atlanta.

Marte belted a home run to tie the game in the third inning of a back-and-forth affair. A starter in the upcoming All-Star game, Marte is batting .283/.351/.506 with 18 home runs, 52 RBI and 62 runs over 88 games.

  • Eugenio Suarez DH | CIN

Diamondbacks' Eugenio Suarez: Goes deep in win

Suarez went 2-for-4 with a double, a home run, three RBI and an additional run scored in Wednesday's 7-5 win over Atlanta.

Suarez launched a no-doubt, two-run home run to left field in the second inning to tie the game. He later delivered a run with a seventh-inning double. It's a small sample size, but Suarez may be emerging from a season-long slump. He was batting .192 with a .584 OPS as recently as June 23, but the third baseman has posted a .298 average and .942 OPS in the 14 games since, including two home runs and nine RBI over the last four contests.

  • Slade Cecconi SP | CLE

Diamondbacks' Slade Cecconi: Returning to minors

The Diamondbacks are optioning Cecconi to Triple-A Reno following Wednesday's no-decision against Atlanta, Alex Weiner and John Gambadoro of Arizona Sports report. He allowed three runs on four hits and two walks while striking out three over four innings in a 7-5 win.

Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo said he considered using an opener Wednesday but eventually opted to let Cecconi throw as a traditional starter. The plan was to let him face at least 18 hitters, and the manager would have extended the right-hander if Arizona had a big lead. As it turned out, the game was tied after four innings, and Lovullo stuck with the original plan. The team doesn't need a fifth starter for now, as the All-Star break is coming up. Cecconi has a 6.14 ERA over 66 innings and has struggled to get deep into games.
