  • Bailey Falter RP | ATL

Pirates' Bailey Falter: Confirmed to start Tuesday

Falter (tricep) is scheduled to start Tuesday's game against the Astros in Houston.

After returning from the 15-day injured list Monday, Falter will reclaim his spot in what tentatively shapes up as a six-man rotation for the Pirates. The southpaw was placed on the shelf July 7 with left tricep tendinitis and needed just one rehab start to convince the Pirates that he was ready to slot back into the rotation. Though Falter was limited to just three innings in his rehab start with Triple-A Indianapolis last Wednesday, he tossed 60 pitches in the outing, so he should be relatively stretched out as he rejoins the big club.

  • Bryce Elder SP | ATL

Braves' Bryce Elder: Confirmed for start Tuesday

Atlanta will recall Elder from Triple-A Gwinnett to start Tuesday against the Brewers.

Elder already joined Atlanta's taxi squad in Milwaukee on Monday, so it comes as little surprise that he'll get the starting nod for the second game of the series. If Elder fares well Tuesday in his return to the big club and if Reynaldo Lopez (forearm) is forced to miss his next turn through the rotation, Atlanta could have both Grant Holmes and Elder make starts against the Marlins over the weekend. The outlooks for both Elder and Holmes beyond this week are murkier, however, especially if both Lopez and Max Fried (forearm) are able to move past their current injuries. Elder has previously made eight starts for Atlanta this season, going 1-4 with a 6.35 ERA and 1.64 WHIP across 39.2 innings.

  • Jeff McNeil 2B | ATH

Mets' Jeff McNeil: Drives in three Monday

McNeil went 2-for-4 with a double, two runs scored and three RBI in Monday's win over the Twins.

The 32-year-old shifted back to second base Monday following the acquisition of Jesse Winker, but that didn't derail McNeil's momentum at the plate. Over his last 14 games, he's slashing .340/.352/.720 with 11 runs, 15 RBI and 11 extra-base hits (seven doubles, four homers) among his 17 total knocks.

  • Luis Torrens C | NYM

Mets' Luis Torrens: Three hits in Monday's start

Torrens went 3-for-4 with a walk, a double, a run scored and three RBI in Monday's rout of the Twins.

Getting the start behind the plate and batting eighth with Francisco Alvarez nursing a sore shoulder, Torrens did most of his damage with a two-run double in the seventh inning. Alvarez isn't expected to miss much action, but Torrens has demonstrated he's more than capable of filling in should the Mets decide their starting catcher needs a bit more time off. Through 72 plate appearances since joining the team, Torrens is slashing .308/.361/.538 with six doubles, three homers and 13 RBI.

  • Jose Butto SP | SF

Mets' Jose Butto: Notches three-inning save

Butto gave up a run on four hits and a walk over three innings to record his second save of the season in Monday's win over the Twins. He struck out two.

The 26-year-old righty gave the rest of the Mets' bullpen a breather in a 15-2 rout, firing 44 pitches (27 strikes) to close things out. Butto has thrown at least 40 pitches in three of his last five appearances, posting a 1.54 ERA, 0.86 WHIP and 16:4 K:BB in 11.2 innings over that stretch. If New York can't bring in rotation reinforcements at Tuesday's trade deadline, it wouldn't be a surprise if Butto gets stretched back out for a starting role.

  • Mets' Francisco Lindor: On base three times in rout

Lindor went 2-for-5 with a walk, a run scored, an RBI and a stolen base in Monday's win over the Twins.

It was another strong performance from Lindor, this time in a 15-2 laugher as every Mets player who appeared in the game either scored or drove in a run, or both. The shortstop is putting the finishing touches on a huge July that has seen him slash .286/.402/.592 with nine homers, seven steals (in seven attempts), 18 runs and 23 RBI over 25 games.

  • Livan Soto SS | BAL

Reds' Livan Soto: Removed from 40-man roster

The Reds designated Soto for assignment Tuesday, C. Trent Rosecrans of The Athletic reports.

Soto was moved off the 40-man roster after the Reds acquired right-hander Jakob Junis and outfielder Joey Weimer from the Brewers while sending right-hander Frankie Montas to Milwaukee. The 24-year-old Soto had gone hitless in three plate appearances during his brief time with the Reds this season.

  • Max Meyer SP | MIA

Marlins' Max Meyer: No restrictions for rest of season

Meyer won't face any restrictions on his workload for the rest of the season, either in terms of innings pitches or pitches per start, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.

The 25-year-old right-hander made three big-league starts in April before being sent back down to Triple-A Jacksonville to make sure he wasn't overworked as he made his return from the Tommy John surgery he underwent in August 2022. Meyer threw only 58 innings over three months for Jacksonville, and the erratic schedule may have played a part in his 4.34 ERA and 1.48 WHIP at Triple-A. Now that he's back in the majors though, the Marlins will keep him on a regular schedule and won't hold him back. After throwing 85 pitches over four innings in his return to the big club Saturday, Meyer lines up to take his next turn through the rotation this weekend in Atlanta.

  • Orlando Arcia SS | MIN

Braves' Orlando Arcia: Goes yard again Monday

Arcia went 1-for-2 with a walk and a solo home run in Monday's loss to the Brewers.

The shortstop went yard for the second straight game, driving a Colin Rea two-seamer over the center-field fence in the fifth inning. Arcia is finding a groove at the plate, batting .357 (10-for-28) over a nine-game hitting streak, but the surge has still only boosted his OPS on the season to .612 -- his lowest mark in a full big-league campaign since he stumbled to a .575 mark in 2018.

  • Marcell Ozuna DH | PIT

Braves' Marcell Ozuna: Keeps slugging Monday

Ozuna went 1-for-3 with a walk and a solo home run in Monday's loss to the Brewers.

He opened the scoring in the game by taking Colin Rea deep in the fourth inning. Ozuna has homered in three of the last four games, boosting his total on the season to 31. Over the last 15 games he's slashing a blistering .382/.452/.818 with eight home runs, 10 RBI and 13 runs.
