    Rockies' Angel Chivilli: Earns first career save

    Chivilli earned the save Tuesday, allowing one hit and one walk while striking out one over a scoreless ninth inning.

    Chivilli was summoned to protect a 3-1 lead in the ninth frame and earned his first major-league save on 19 pitches. While it appeared to be a surprising move, Thomas Harding of MLB.com later reported that primary closer Victor Vodnik was experiencing shoulder soreness Tuesday. The rookie owns 4.70 ERA, 1.37 WHIP and 10:3 K:BB across 15.1 innings and could see more save chances depending on the severity of Vodnik's injury.

    Nationals' DJ Herz: Strikes out seven in loss

    Herz (2-6) took the loss against the Rockies on Tuesday, allowing three runs (two earned) on six hits and two walks with seven strikeouts across 5.2 innings.

    Herz generated a solid 13 whiffs on 93 pitches but departed an out shy of his second straight quality start. While he only has one win to show for it, the rookie has yielded two earned runs or fewer in seven of his past eight outings. On the year, he owns a 4.15 ERA, 1.32 WHIP and 75:21 K:BB across 60.2 innings and tentatively lines up to face Atlanta on Sunday.

    Rockies' Austin Gomber: Goes seven innings in win

    Gomber (4-8) earned the win against the Nationals on Tuesday, allowing one run on three hits and two walks with five strikeouts over seven innings.

    The only blemish on Gomber's line was a solo home run by CJ Abrams in the sixth inning. The southpaw generated a solid 13 swinging strikes on 96 pitches and logged his third quality start in four August chances. On the season, he owns a 4.64 ERA, 1.28 WHIP and 94:32 K:BB across 132 innings and lines up for a tough matchup with the Yankees this weekend.

    Pirates' Domingo German: Making start Wednesday

    German will start Wednesday's game against the Rangers, Hannah Mears of SportsNet Pittsburgh reports.

    German has given up two runs over six innings while working out of the Pirates' bullpen as a multi-inning reliever, and Wednesday will mark his first time starting a big-league game this season. The 32-year-old righty posted a 5.29 ERA over 68 innings while working as a starter at Triple-A Indianapolis, though he'll have the advantage of facing a Rangers offense that ranks 23rd in the majors in OPS (.686).

  • Diamondbacks' Justin Martinez: Earns fourth save

    Martinez earned the save Tuesday against the Marlins, striking out one in a perfect ninth inning.

    Martinez was called upon to protect a 3-1 lead in the ninth frame and did so on just seven pitches. He suffered losses in each of his past two appearances but has converted all four of his save chances in August. On the season, the 23-year-old owns a stellar 1.79 ERA, 1.23 WHIP and 67:29 K:BB across 55.1 innings.

    Diamondbacks' Corbin Carroll: Stays hot in win

    Carroll went 2-for-4 with a solo home run and an additional run scored in Tuesday's 3-1 win over the Marlins.

    Carroll singled and scored in the first inning and then belted his fifth home run in 10 games in the fifth. He has hit safely in eight of those 10 contests, logging three multi-hit efforts and crossing home plate 14 times. While the 24-year-old is still hitting just .221 on the season, his home-run total now stands at 14 to go along with 51 RBI, 21 steals and 91 runs scored across 523 plate appearances.

    Phillies' Zack Wheeler: Falls to Atlanta

    Wheeler (12-6) took the loss Tuesday against Atlanta, allowing two runs on six hits over six innings. He struck out eight.

    Wheeler pitched well Tuesday, allowing just one run through five innings before Marcell Ozuna put Atlanta ahead with a solo home run in the sixth, which proved to be enough to stick Wheeler with the loss. The 34-year-old right-hander hasn't allowed more than two runs in any of his last four starts (26 innings). Wheeler's ERA now sits at 2.73 this season with a 0.98 WHIP and 170:43 K:BB across 154.2 innings.

    Marlins' Edward Cabrera: Logs quality start in loss

    Cabrera (2-5) took the loss against Arizona on Tuesday, allowing three runs on four hits and three walks with three strikeouts across six innings.

    Cabrera battled but allowed nine hard-hit balls while generating just two swinging strikes on 90 pitches. Still, the 26-year-old put a six-run outing Wednesday behind him and has posted two quality starts and two scoreless efforts in four August appearances. On the year, he owns a 5.65 ERA, 1.47 WHIP and 73:38 K:BB across 65.1 innings and lines up for risky matchup at Coors Field next week.

    Cubs' Dansby Swanson: Homers in win Tuesday

    Swanson went 1-for-2 with a walk and a solo home run in Tuesday's 3-1 win over the Tigers.

    The Cubs only mustered five total hits, but Swanson provided the big jolt of the night as he popped his 10th home run of the season and first since July 11. The shortstop had at least 20 long balls in each of the last three years, though he's running out of time to reach that mark in 2024. On a more positive note, Swanson is at least batting .302 this month.

  • Braves' Raisel Iglesias: Extends scoreless streak

    Iglesias earned the save Tuesday, setting the Phillies down in order in the ninth inning to close out a 3-1 victory.

    Iglesias has now converted his last 18 save chances. He's gone 19 appearances (22 innings) without allowing an earned run, allowing just four hits and two walks in that span. The 34-year-old Iglesias has converted 27 of 29 save opportunities this year while lowering his ERA to a pristine 1.48 with a 0.64 WHIP and 46:8 K:BB across 48.2 innings.
