The Cubs activated Steele (elbow) from the 15-day injured list Wednesday, Maddie Lee of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

Steele will rejoin the rotation Wednesday against the Athletics after missing the last three weeks of action with left elbow tendinitis. The southpaw didn't make a rehab start, so he could be working with a limited pitch count Wednesday.

The Cardinals are expected to recall McGreevy from Triple-A Memphis prior to Wednesday's game against the Pirates, Katie Woo of The Athletic reports.

McGreevy was scratched from a scheduled start Tuesday for Memphis, and that move was evidently made because he's headed back to the majors. While a start down the stretch is possible, McGreevy is expected to be available in long relief for now. He threw seven innings of one-run ball in a spot start in his major-league debut in late July.

Scott's (elbow) agent, Nate Heisler, announced Wednesday via social media that the right-hander will undergo a traditional Tommy John surgery combined with an internal brace early next week.

Scott was placed on the 15-day injured list shortly after the All-Star break with a UCL sprain in his right elbow, but the Mets had initially been optimistic that the 25-year-old would be able to avoid surgery and make a late-season return. He was cleared to start throwing off flat ground in late August and advanced to throwing bullpen sessions earlier this month, but Scott appears to have hit a snag in his recovery that has prompted him to get surgery. Since Scott is set to undergo a hybrid procedure involving the internal brace, he may have a slightly speedier recovery than if he had opted for Tommy John surgery alone, but he's still likely to miss the entire 2025 season.

Jones is absent from the lineup for Wednesday's game versus the Diamondbacks.

Jones started the first two games of the series, going 0-for-5 with a couple walks. He'll get the day off Wednesday against lefty Eduardo Rodriguez, with Sam Hilliard taking over in left field.

Blackmon is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Diamondbacks.

The lefty-hitting Blackmon will hit the bench for the second day in a row while Arizona sends another southpaw (Eduardo Rodriguez) to the bump. Jacob Stallings will serve as the Rockies' designated hitter in Blackmon's stead.

McMahon is not in the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Diamondbacks.

The Diamondbacks are sending southpaw Eduardo Rodriguez to the hill in the matinee, so the left-handed-hitting McMahon will begin the game on the bench. Aaron Schunk is at third base and batting ninth for the Rockies.

Triple-A Reno reinstated Thomas (oblique) from its 7-day injured list Tuesday.

Thomas returned to the lineup for Reno's 9-2 win over Albuquerque, starting in center field while going 2-for-4 with a double and two runs. The 24-year-old had missed the past month with a right oblique strain.

Pederson is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Rockies.

Pederson will hit the bench for the series finale while the Rockies send southpaw Austin Gomber to the hill. Randal Grichuk (lower body) will replace Pederson in the lineup as Arizona's designated hitter.

Grichuk (lower body) will start at designated hitter and bat third in Wednesday's game versus the Rockies.

Grichuk had to be scratched from the Diamondbacks' lineup Sunday due to lower-body tightness, but he's been available off the bench the last two days and is starting Wednesday's game as the Rockies send southpaw Austin Gomber to the bump. The righty-hitting Grichuk is slashing .305/.370/.494 against lefties this season.

Jones went 0-for-3 with a walk, a run scored and a stolen base Tuesday against the Diamondbacks.

Jones has had a miserable September, tallying only five hits across 31 at-bats paired with a 34.2 percent strikeout rate. He also hasn't homered since June 29, leading to a .095 ISO on the campaign. Jones is still getting regular at-bats against righties for the time being, though Sam Hilliard has been far more productive of late.
