McCarthy (hand) will start in center field and bat eighth in Friday's game versus the Cubs.

McCarthy has been limited this week by a sore hand as a result of a hit-by-pitch in Sunday's game versus the Brewers, but he'll give it a go in Friday's series opener. The 27-year-old is just 3-for-33 at the plate so far this season.

Minter worked a perfect eighth inning Thursday to record his fourth hold of the season in a win over the Cardinals.

The southpaw needed only nine pitches (six strikes) to breeze through the top of the St. Louis batting order. Minter has had a strong start to the season as one of the primary setup men for Edwin Diaz, posting a 2.16 ERA, 0.72 WHIP and 12:1 K:BB through 8.1 innings over nine appearances.

Ewing is slashing .415/.490/.659 through 11 games for Single-A St. Lucie with three doubles, two triples, one home run, seven steals in nine attempts and a 7:6 BB:K.

A compensatory pick in the 2023 First-Year Player Draft between the fourth and fifth rounds (135th overall), Ewing didn't make much of an impression through his first two pro seasons but could be headed for a breakout. The 20-year-old has mainly played center field the last two years, and while his power upside remains questionable due to his small stature, he could emerge as a real prospect if his contact skills, batting eye and speed continue to play. He played 71 games for St. Lucie in 2024, so a quick promotion to High-A Brooklyn could be in order given his start to the current campaign.

Suero is batting .375 (13-for-37) with six doubles and five home runs in 10 games for High-A Brooklyn.

The 21-year-old catcher is repeating the level after finishing the 2024 campaign at High-A, but Suero is making a strong case for a quick promotion. Per Anthony DiComo of MLB.com, Suero has been getting defensive reps at first base and left field and might even see time in center field, as the organization tries to take full advantage of his athleticism. He'll need to improve his plate discipline (2:14 BB:K at Brooklyn to begin the year) to thrive at higher levels, however.

Gilbert (hamstring) went 1-for-4 with a run scored for Triple-A Syracuse on Thursday.

After spending six games with Single-A St. Lucie on a rehab assignment, Gilbert rejoined the Syracuse lineup Thursday, batting second and playing center field. The 24-year-old is looking to rebound from a rough 2024 campaign that saw him slash .215/.313/.393 over 56 Triple-A contests, but Gilbert's first priority is proving he can stay healthy.

Brantly went 3-for-3 with an RBI in Thursday's loss to the Diamondbacks.

The veteran backstop picked up his first hits and first RBI of 2025 in his second game for the Marlins this season. Brantly doesn't offer a lot of upside at the plate given his career .227/.287/.325 slash line in the majors, but with Liam Hicks struggling (.522 OPS over 45 plate appearances), Brantly could see more playing time than expected while Nick Fortes (oblique) is on the shelf.

Norby went 1-for-5 in Thursday's loss to the Diamondbacks.

Seeing his first MLB game action of the year after beginning the season on the IL due to an oblique strain, Norby struck out twice but did bang a single into left field in the sixth inning. The 24-year-old third baseman hit second Thursday against southpaw Eduardo Rodriguez, and he's likely to have a prominent spot in the order against right-handers as well as the Marlins search for offense. Norby slashed .247/.315/.445 with seven homers over 36 games for Miami last season after being acquired from Baltimore.

The Cubs optioned Little to Triple-A Iowa on Thursday.

Little made just one appearance during his brief time with the big club and allowed one run while walking four over one-third of an inning. The Cubs will announced a corresponding roster move prior to Friday's game versus the Diamondbacks.

The Rockies placed Doyle (personal) on the bereavement list Thursday.

By rule, Doyle will miss the next 3-to-7 games. He's also been dealing with a quad injury recently that's kept him out of the starting lineup for the previous six contests, although he did appear as a pinch hitter in Wednesday's loss to the Dodgers. Doyle will likely be back in the Rockies' lineup Tuesday in Kansas City, assuming he's recovered from the quad issue by then.

Suarez (back) will throw a bullpen session Friday, and his next minor-league rehab start is scheduled for Tuesday with Triple-A Lehigh Valley, Jeff Kerr of CBS Philadelphia reports.

Manager Rob Thomson noted that the left-hander has no issues with his back but could need another rehab appearance after Tuesday, which would likely push back Suarez's return to Philadelphia's rotation until early May. He threw 54 pitches Wednesday with Single-A Clearwater, so he'll likely be targeting the 70-pitch range in his next outing in the minors. The Phillies intend to bring Suarez back as a starter, but it sounds like Taijuan Walker is poised to get at least two more turns in the rotation in the interim.
