Johnson is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Rockies.

After being called up from Triple-A Sacramento on June 4, the left-handed-hitting Johnson made consecutive starts in right field against right-handed pitching, then made two more starts in center field over the weekend, when Jung Hoo Lee missed a pair of contests due to a back issue. Lee returned to the lineup Tuesday and has since taken back control of everyday duties in center field, while Mike Yastrzemski has picked up the pace at the plate lately and appears to have reclaimed the primary gig in right field. Johnson now finds himself on the bench for the second time in the Giants' last four matchups with righties, and he looks as though he'll be deployed as more of a fourth outfielder moving forward.

Schmitt will start at third base and bat seventh in Thursday's game against the Rockies.

Schmitt will stick in the lineup for a fourth straight game and will be making his third consecutive start at the hot corner. He looks poised to operate as the Giants' primary option at third base until Matt Chapman (hand) is cleared to return from the injured list.

Knizner is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Rockies.

Knizner will take a seat for Thursday's matinee after he had started behind the plate in each of the Giants' last three games. Logan Porter will get the nod at catcher in the series finale, but Knizner is expected to operate as the Giants' top backstop while Patrick Bailey (neck) is on the injured list. Since joining the Giants on June 4, Knizner has gone 1-for-11 with a walk over 12 plate appearances.

Gomber (shoulder) struck out five and allowed one unearned run on one hit and three walks in his rehab start with Triple-A Albuquerque on Tuesday.

After resuming his rehab assignment June 4 with Double-A Hartford and tossing four innings of one-run ball, Gomber moved up a level for his second outing and delivered another sharp performance. He built up to 69 pitches in the start, and he looks like he could be ready to return from the 60-day injured list to make his 2025 debut with the Rockies as soon as this Sunday in Atlanta. Per MLB.com, Rockies interim manager Warren Schaeffer said the Rockies are still deciding on Gomber's next steps, but the veteran southpaw seems likely to rejoin the big club if he fares well in his between-starts bullpen session Friday.

The Rockies recalled Molina from Triple-A Albuquerque on Thursday.

Molina made one scoreless appearance with the Rockies earlier this season. The 23-year-old reliever will give the big club a fresh arm for the bullpen and is likely to work in a lower-leverage role.

Call will start in right field and bat sixth in Thursday's game against the Mets.

Call will be making his eighth consecutive start Thursday after going 7-for-20 with a pair of solo home runs and a walk over the previous seven contests. The return of Jacob Young from the injured list last Friday seemed as though it would put Call at risk of losing out on playing time, but Call has instead remained a fixture in the lineup against both righties and lefties, while Young has made all three of his starts versus southpaws over the Nationals' six games since he was activated. Call remains likely to see his role get downsized once Dylan Crews (oblique) is activated, though Crews' return doesn't seem to be imminent.

The Rockies optioned Palmquist to Triple-A Albuquerque on Thursday.

Palmquist struggled in his first five starts at the major-league level, collecting a 7.77 ERA and 16:13 K:BB across 22 innings of work. The left-hander's demotion to Albuquerque suggests that Austin Gomber (shoulder) could be ready to return from the 60-day injured list to take the hill the next time a fifth starter is needed Sunday in Atlanta.

Young is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Mets.

Since being activated from the 10-day injured list last Friday, Young has made all three of his starts against left-handed pitchers and has been on the bench all three times that the Nationals have faced righties. Manager Dave Martinez looks as though he'll deploy Young in the short side of a platoon in center field with Robert Hassell for the foreseeable future.

Civale requested a trade from the Brewers after manager Pat Murphy informed the right-hander Wednesday that he would be moved to the bullpen, Ken Rosenthal and Will Sammon of The Athletic report.

Civale is the odd man out of the rotation to accommodate the arrival of top prospect Jacob Misiorowski, who will be called up from Triple-A Nashville to start Thursday versus the Cardinals. However, Civale's agent, Jack Toffey, has formally made a request to Brewers general manager Matt Arnold that his client be traded to a team where he can continue being used as a starting pitcher. The Brewers are under no obligation to honor the request, but there should be interest in Civale if the club decides a trade is best for both parties. Civale has been limited to five starts this season due to a strained hamstring, posting a 4.91 ERA and 19:7 K:BB over 22 innings. The 30-year-old is making $8 million this season and is set to become a free agent this offseason.

Soto went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run in Wednesday's win over the Nationals.

After striking out in his first at-bat of the night, Soto continued to take revenge on the team he made his big-league debut with in 2018, lofting a Jake Irvin curveball over the fence in right field in the third inning. Soto's gone yard in the first two games of the series, continuing a hot stretch that's seen him slash a jaw-dropping .390/.545/.829 over his last 12 games with five of his 13 homers on the year, while adding 10 RBI and 15 runs.
