  • Chris Devenski RP | PIT

Mets' Chris Devenski: Recalled to majors

The Mets recalled Devenski from Triple-A Syracuse on Saturday, Mike Puma of the New York Post reports.

Devenski has given up two earned runs in three big-league innings this season, but he'll be called upon to help make up for the departures of Blade Tidwell and Justin Garza to Syracuse. Devenski will likely be limited to low-leverage situations while with the big club.

  • Justin Garza RP | NYM

Mets' Justin Garza: Optioned to Syracuse

The Mets optioned Garza to Triple-A Syracuse on Saturday, Mike Puma of the New York Post reports.

Garza will be shipped back upstate after giving up four earned runs in two innings during his outing Friday. He'll be joined on the trip to Syracuse by Blade Tidwell, while Chris Devenski and Tyler Zuber are coming up to fill the open spots on New York's roster.

  • Mets' Blade Tidwell: Sent down to Syracuse

The Mets optioned Tidwell to Triple-A Syracuse on Saturday, Mike Puma of the New York Post reports.

Tidwell gave up two runs in 3.2 innings during his second major-league start Friday, but he still owns a 9.82 ERA and 2.59 WHIP in the bigs this year. He'll head back to Triple-A to clear a rotation spot in preparation for Frankie Montas' (lat) upcoming return from the injured list Tuesday, though the Mets will first bring up Chris Devenski and Tyler Zuber to provide extra depth in the bullpen.

  • Pirates' Hunter Stratton: Recalled to Pittsburgh

The Pirates recalled Stratton from Triple-A Indianapolis on Saturday.

After being sent down to Indianapolis in early May, Stratton turned in a 2.08 ERA and 1.08 WHIP across 13 innings. He'll now be called upon to serve as a bullpen replacement for Ryan Borucki (back), who was placed on the injured list Saturday.

  • Ryan Borucki RP | SF

Pirates' Ryan Borucki: Lands on IL

The Pirates placed Borucki on the 15-day injured list Saturday with a lower-back injury, Colin Beazley of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.

Borucki's back forced him to make an early exit from Friday's contest, and it will now also keep him sidelined for at least the next 15 days. Hunter Stratton was brought up in a corresponding move to replenish the Pirates' bullpen depth.

  • Billy Cook CF | PIT

Pirates' Billy Cook: Optioned back to Indianapolis

The Pirates optioned Cook to Triple-A Indianapolis on Saturday.

Cook came up from the minors Wednesday when Bryan Reynolds went on the paternity list, and the former will now head back to Triple-A following the latter's return. The 26-year-old Cook went 2-for-6 and scored a run during his time with Pittsburgh.

  • Bryan Reynolds LF | PIT

Pirates' Bryan Reynolds: Back from paternity leave

The Pirates reinstated Reynolds from the paternity list Saturday.

After spending three days away from the team to welcome a new addition to his family, Reynolds will return to the starting nine Saturday. Billy Cook was sent back to Triple-A Indianapolis in a corresponding move.

  • Padres' Manny Machado: Slugs 12th homer

Machado went 2-for-5 with a solo home run, a double and an additional run scored Friday in a loss to Kansas City.

Machado had two of San Diego's three extra-base hits in the loss, knocking a ground-rule double in the seventh inning and a solo homer in the ninth. The veteran third baseman continues to pick up the pace in the power department -- after going deep just three times in his first 48 games, Machado has homered nine times in his subsequent 27 contests. He's also been able to maintain a high batting average, as he's currently on pace for a career-best mark of .311 through 318 plate appearances.

  • Austin Cox RP | ATL

Braves' Austin Cox: Back in Atlanta

Atlanta recalled Cox from Triple-A Gwinnett on Saturday.

With Chris Sale (ribs) headed to the injured list, Atlanta will bring up Cox to provide the club with some extra bullpen depth. The 28-year-old southpaw hasn't appeared in an MLB game yet this year, but he owns a 4.05 ERA and 1.54 WHIP across 26.2 innings split between Atlanta's and Kansas City's Triple-A affiliates.

  • Chris Sale SP | ATL

Braves' Chris Sale: Shelved with rib fracture

Atlanta placed Sale on the 15-day injured list with a fractured left ribcage Saturday.

Sale made a diving play in the ninth inning of Wednesday's 5-0 win over the Mets and damaged his ribs in the process, resulting in his placement on the IL for the first time this season. He'll be eligible to return from the IL in early July, though it's likely he'll need more than a minimum-length stay. Austin Cox was recalled from Triple-A Gwinnett to give Atlanta extra bullpen depth in the short term, and the team will likely keep rookie Didier Fuentes in the rotation until Sale is ready to return from the shelf.
