  • Nick Pivetta RP | SD

Padres' Nick Pivetta: Sharp in revenge game

Pivetta (9-2) picked up the win in the first game of Wednesday's doubleheader against the Phillies, allowing one run on seven hits over six innings. He struck out six without walking a batter.

A solo homer by Kyle Schwarber in the sixth inning was the only blemish on Pivetta's line. The right-hander spent the first three-plus seasons of his MLB career with Philadelphia, but he appears to have found a new gear in San Diego -- he's already one win short of his career high, and his 10 quality starts is two shy of the career-high 12 he delivered for Boston in 2022. Pivetta will take a 3.25 ERA, 1.04 WHIP and 107:24 K:BB through 97 innings into his next outing, which lines up to come at home early next week against the Diamondbacks.

  • Brewers' Isaac Collins: Resting after four-hit game

Collins is out of the lineup for the second game of Wednesday's doubleheader versus the Mets.

Collins will get a chance to catch his breath during the nightcap after going 4-for-4 with a home run, a walk and an additional run scored in the Brewers' 7-2 win in Game 1. Christian Yelich will start in left field in place of Collins, putting William Contreras in the designated-hitter spot while Eric Haase gets the nod behind the plate.

  • Caleb Durbin 3B | BOS

Brewers' Caleb Durbin: Idle for nightcap

Durbin is out of the lineup for the second game of Wednesday's doubleheader against the Mets.

Durbin didn't start in the Brewers' 7-2 win earlier the day either, though he drew a walk during his pinch-hit appearance. Anthony Seigler will make another start at the hot corner and bat seventh in the nightcap.

  • Will Benson RF | CIN

Reds' Will Benson: On bench Wednesday

Benson is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Red Sox.

The Red Sox are opening the game with a left-hander (Brennan Bernardino), so the left-handed-hitting Benson will give way to the right-handed-hitting Rece Hinds in right field. Righty Cooper Criswell is scheduled to pitch in bulk relief once Bernardino exits the contest, so it wouldn't be surprising if Benson subbed in for Hinds (or another Reds outfielder) at some point during the game.

  • Reds' Christian Encarnacion-Strand: Out after fouling ball off foot

Encarnacion-Strand is not in the lineup for Wednesday's game in Boston after fouling a ball off the top of his foot earlier in the day, Charlie Goldsmith of Fox 19 Now Cincinnati reports.

The Reds and Red Sox resumed Tuesday's suspended game earlier Wednesday, and Encarnacion-Strand was removed in the bottom of the eighth after getting hurt in his at-bat in the previous half inning. Manager Terry Francona didn't disclose whether Encarnacion-Strand underwent X-rays following his removal from the contest. With Encarnacion-Strand on the bench for the second game of the day, the Reds will turn to Santiago Espinal to cover third base.

  • Spencer Steer 1B | CIN

Reds' Spencer Steer: Cleared to start Wednesday

Reds manager Terry Francona said that Steer is dealing with some swelling in his hand, but the 27-year-old will start at first base and bat fifth Wednesday against the Red Sox.

The Reds and Red Sox are essentially playing a doubleheader Wednesday, after they resumed Tuesday's suspended game in the top of the fourth inning earlier in the day. Steer finished 1-for-2 with a two-run home run in the Reds' 5-3 loss, but he experienced swelling in his hand after being plunked by a pitch in the seventh inning. Though he'll have just a few hours to rest up between games, Steer is apparently feeling well enough to play the field and hit during the nightcap.

  • Bryce Harper 1B | PHI

Phillies' Bryce Harper: Sitting second game of twin bill

Harper is not in the lineup for the second game of Wednesday's doubleheader against the Padres.

Harper started at first base and went 1-for-4 in the Phillies' 6-4 loss in the first game of the day, which was his second appearance since returning from the 10-day injured list Monday following a three-plus week absence due to right wrist inflammation. His absence from the lineup in Wednesday's nightcap appears to be a result of workload management rather than any sort of setback. Otto Kemp will handle first base and bat sixth as the Phillies try for a doubleheader split.

  • Phillies' J.T. Realmuto: Resting for nightcap

Realmuto is out of the lineup for the second game of Wednesday's doubleheader versus the Padres.

Realmuto will be rested for the nightcap after he played all nine innings behind the plate and went 3-for-4 with a double and two runs in the Phillies' 6-4 loss in Game 1. Rafael Marchan will handle the catching duties in Game 2.

  • Craig Yoho RP | MIL

Brewers' Craig Yoho: Joins big club as 27th man

The Brewers recalled Yoho from Triple-A Nashville ahead of the second game of Wednesday's doubleheader with the Mets and designated him as their 27th man.

Yoho will be up for his second cup of coffee with Milwaukee after he previously received his first big-league call-up in late April and allowed six earned runs in 5.2 innings over five relief appearances before being optioned to Nashville. Since reporting back to Triple-A on May 3, Yoho has looked sharp in a middle-innings role, turning in a 2.12 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 23:9 K:BB over 17 frames. He'll provide Milwaukee with a fresh bullpen arm for the second game of the twin bill but isn't likely to be put to work in a high-leverage spot.

  • Mets' Blade Tidwell: Pitching behind opener Wednesday

Tidwell is slated to work in bulk relief behind opening pitcher Huascar Brazoban in the second game of Wednesday's doubleheader versus the Brewers, Manny Gomez of NJ.com reports.

Tidwell was initially listed as the Mets' scheduled starter for Game 2, but the club made the late decision to use the right-hander behind an opener following a 7-2 loss to the Brewers in the first game of the day. The rookie will be making his fourth appearance of the season for the Mets, after previously allowing 12 earned runs in 10.2 innings across two starts and one relief outing. Though he'll be taking over the rotation spot that opened up after Griffin Canning suffered a season-ending Achilles injury last week, Tidwell may be headed back to the minors after his appearance Wednesday. Lefty Sean Manaea (oblique/elbow) will make a rehab start with Double-A Binghamton on Wednesday and could be ready to return from the 60-day injured list the next time the Mets require a fifth starter.
