  • Phillies' J.T. Realmuto: Resting for nightcap

Realmuto is out of the lineup for the second game of Wednesday's doubleheader versus the Padres.

Realmuto will be rested for the nightcap after he played all nine innings behind the plate and went 3-for-4 with a double and two runs in the Phillies' 6-4 loss in Game 1. Rafael Marchan will handle the catching duties in Game 2.

  • Craig Yoho RP | MIL

Brewers' Craig Yoho: Joins big club as 27th man

The Brewers recalled Yoho from Triple-A Nashville ahead of the second game of Wednesday's doubleheader with the Mets and designated him as their 27th man.

Yoho will be up for his second cup of coffee with Milwaukee after he previously received his first big-league call-up in late April and allowed six earned runs in 5.2 innings over five relief appearances before being optioned to Nashville. Since reporting back to Triple-A on May 3, Yoho has looked sharp in a middle-innings role, turning in a 2.12 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 23:9 K:BB over 17 frames. He'll provide Milwaukee with a fresh bullpen arm for the second game of the twin bill but isn't likely to be put to work in a high-leverage spot.

  • Mets' Blade Tidwell: Pitching behind opener Wednesday

Tidwell is slated to work in bulk relief behind opening pitcher Huascar Brazoban in the second game of Wednesday's doubleheader versus the Brewers, Manny Gomez of NJ.com reports.

Tidwell was initially listed as the Mets' scheduled starter for Game 2, but the club made the late decision to use the right-hander behind an opener following a 7-2 loss to the Brewers in the first game of the day. The rookie will be making his fourth appearance of the season for the Mets, after previously allowing 12 earned runs in 10.2 innings across two starts and one relief outing. Though he'll be taking over the rotation spot that opened up after Griffin Canning suffered a season-ending Achilles injury last week, Tidwell may be headed back to the minors after his appearance Wednesday. Lefty Sean Manaea (oblique/elbow) will make a rehab start with Double-A Binghamton on Wednesday and could be ready to return from the 60-day injured list the next time the Mets require a fifth starter.

  • Mets' Huascar Brazoban: Opening second game of twin bill

Brazoban will serve as the Mets' opening pitcher for the second game of Wednesday's doubleheader versus the Brewers, Manny Gomez of NJ.com reports.

Brazoban isn't expected to cover more than an inning or two before giving way to right-hander Blade Tidwell, who was initially scheduled to start but will instead work in bulk relief. The Mets have used Brazoban as an opener on two other occasions this season.

  • Pirates' Isiah Kiner-Falefa: Drives in pair in win

Kiner-Falefa went 1-for-3 with two RBI in Wednesday's 5-0 win over the Cardinals.

Kiner-Falefa came through in a big spot, lining a two-run single in the seventh inning to extend the lead. The hit was his sixth in the past five games, and he continued a productive stretch in which the 30-year-old has gone 8-for-27 (.292) with a triple and five RBI over his last eight contests.

  • Clay Holmes RP | NYM

Mets' Clay Holmes: No-decision in matinee

Holmes didn't factor into the decision in the opening game of Wednesday's doubleheader with the Brewers. He allowed two runs on three hits and four walks while striking out one over 5.1 innings.

While Holmes was able to limit the damage for the most part Wednesday, the right-hander has struggled with his command recently, issuing 14 walks over 15 innings across his last three starts. Overall, the 32-year-old Holmes is 8-4 with a 2.99 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and 76:39 K:BB across 17 starts (93.1 innings). He's currently scheduled for a home matchup with the Yankees in his next outing.

  • Freddy Peralta SP | NYM

Brewers' Freddy Peralta: Earns win in matinee

Peralta (9-4) earned the win in the first game of Wednesday's doubleheader against the Mets, allowing two runs on two hits and a walk over six innings. He struck out six.

It's the fourth straight win for Peralta, who's held opponents to three runs or fewer in all but one start this season. The right-hander sports a 2.91 ERA with a 1.09 WHIP and 104:35 K:BB through 18 starts (99 innings) this year. Peralta is currently scheduled to face the Marlins on the road in his next outing.

  • Braves' Drake Baldwin: Idle against lefty

Baldwin is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Angels.

Atlanta is facing a left-handed starting pitcher (Yusei Kikuchi) for the fourth game in a row, and the left-handed-hitting Baldwin has now been on the bench for three of those contests. Manager Brian Snitker looks content to use a loose platoon at catcher between Baldwin and the right-handed-hitting Sean Murphy, who should continue to get most of the starts versus southpaws.

  • Alex Verdugo LF | SD

Braves' Alex Verdugo: Officially booted from 40-man

Atlanta designated Verdugo for assignment Wednesday.

Atlanta needed to free spots on its 26-man active roster and 40-man roster for the reinstatement of Jurickson Profar from the restricted list, and Verdugo was the obvious choice after he slashed only .239/.296/.289 with zero home runs over 56 contests. Verdugo is likely to pass through waivers and become a free agent.

  • Kevin Herget RP | NYM

Braves' Kevin Herget: Demoted to Triple-A

Atlanta optioned Herget to Triple-A Gwinnett on Wednesday.

Herget will give up his spot in the Atlanta bullpen to right-hander Daysbel Hernandez (forearm), who was reinstated from the injured list. After being recalled from Gwinnett on Saturday, Herget tossed a scoreless inning in his lone appearance for Atlanta in Tuesday's game against the Angels before being moved off the 26-man active roster.
