  • Dodgers' Yoshinobu Yamamoto: Chased in first inning

Yamamoto (8-7) took the loss Monday against Milwaukee, allowing five runs (three earned) on four hits and two walks with no strikeouts over two-thirds of an inning.

Yamamoto retired two of the first four batters he faced before allowing a three-run homer to Andrew Vaughn, a single to Isaac Collins and a walk to Brice Turang. It seemed Yamamoto would get out of the inning without another run scoring, but a throwing error by Mookie Betts extended the inning. Manager Dave Roberts elected to remove Yamamoto after 41 pitches, marking the right-hander's shortest start in his two-year MLB career. In his last six outings, Yamamoto owns a 3.64 ERA and a 32:11 K:BB across 29.2 innings. He'll look to get back on track against the Giants this weekend.

  • Andrew Vaughn 1B | MIL

Brewers' Andrew Vaughn: Goes yard in team debut

Vaughn went 1-for-2 with a three-run home run, a walk and an additional run scored during Monday's 9-1 win over the Dodgers.

After Vaughn had spent the previous three weeks at Triple-A Nashville following his acquisition from the White Sox on June 13, the Brewers called up the 27-year-old first baseman from the minors to replace Rhys Hoskins (thumb) on the active roster. Vaughn entered the starting nine in his first game with Milwaukee and made an instant impact, taking Yoshinobu Yamamoto deep in the first inning and plating Sal Frelick and William Contreras to stake the Brewers to an early lead. While Vaughn's long-term role with the Brewers remains unclear, the fact that he drew the start at first base against the right-handed Yamamoto over the lefty-hitting Jake Bauers suggests that Vaughn will get a look as the team's primary option at the position while Hoskins is on the shelf.

  • Ketel Marte 2B | ARI

Diamondbacks' Ketel Marte: Hoping to return Tuesday

Arizona manager Torey Lovullo said after Monday's 6-3 win over the Padres that Marte (groin) has a good chance Tuesday, Jose M. Romero of The Arizona Republic reports.

Marte was held out for the series opener due to right groin tightness, but the issue isn't expected to keep him sidelined for long. Blaze Alexander filled in at second base for Marte on Monday, going 1-for-4.

  • Brenton Doyle CF | COL

Rockies' Brenton Doyle: Returns to lineup

Doyle went 1-for-4 with an RBI on Monday against the Red Sox.

Doyle returned to the starting lineup for the first time since Thursday and hit seventh -- matching his lowest position of the season. He began the scoring for the Rockies with an RBI single in the second inning and his first at-bat. The Rockies haven't made their plans clear, but Doyle will presumably return to a regular starting role after getting some time to reset while amid a slump.

  • Ryan McMahon 3B | NYY

Rockies' Ryan McMahon: First RBI in 12 starts

McMahon went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI on Monday against the Red Sox.

McMahon entered the game having failed to record an RBI in his last 12 starts and 14 games. He's hit just .125 in that span with a 38.5 percent strikeout rate, though he at least managed to drive in a run with a single in the sixth inning of Monday's contest. McMahon has had a disastrous season overall, posting a career-low .684 OPS with only 26 RBI across 89 games.

  • Brady Singer SP | CIN

Reds' Brady Singer: Yields two runs in losing effort

Singer (7-7) took the loss Monday against Miami, allowing two runs on seven hits and one walk over five innings. He struck out three.

After fanning 20 in 14 innings over his three previous starts, Singer struggled to keep the Marlins lineup off balance, generating a paltry six whiffs out of his 96 total pitches. The Cincinnati right-hander coughed up both runs in the fifth inning -- the first on an Agustin Ramirez double and the second on a Liam Hicks single. Singer has pitched to a 4.32 ERA, 1.36 WHIP and 83:39 K:BB across 93.2 frames in his first season with the Reds. He is currently slated to make his next start against the Rockies at home this weekend.

  • Hunter Greene SP | CIN

Reds' Hunter Greene: Avoids major setback

The Reds announced Monday that Greene's (groin) MRI didn't reveal any significant damage, and manager Terry Francona noted the right-hander is likely experiencing fatigue, Charlie Goldsmith of Fox 19 Now Cincinnati reports.

Greene was scheduled to make a start with Triple-A Louisville on Tuesday, but the outing was put on hold after he felt tightness in his right groin. However, the club was pleased with the MRI results, and Francona indicated that Greene could be lacking confidence that his body will hold up. "He's still feeling it at times. I think there's not a lot of confidence there yet," said Francona. "I think it feels fatigued. We want to do the right thing. Sometimes, it's very difficult. That's why we got the MRI. You ask somebody to go out there, let it loose and go 100 mph, you don't want them worrying about something." While further imaging brought positive news, the Reds are expected to give Greene some more time during his rehab assignment to ensure he's back at full strength before bringing him back from the 15-day injured list.

  • Marlins' Agustin Ramirez: Cracks homer, double in win

Ramirez went 2-for-4 with a homer, a double, two RBI and two runs scored in Monday's 5-1 victory over the Reds.

Ramirez extended Miami's lead to 5-1 with a 420-foot solo shot off Cincinnati reliever Brent Suter in the seventh inning. The rookie backstop previously notched his 16th double of the season off starter Brady Singer. Ramirez has been a solid performer through his first 65 big-league games, slashing .245/.291/.479 with 14 homers, 39 RBI and 35 runs scored across 275 plate appearances.

  • Anthony Bender RP | MIA

Marlins' Anthony Bender: Converts one-out save

Bender recorded one out to pick up the save in Monday's 5-1 win at Cincinnati.

After Miami reliever Lake Bachar, who collected a save Saturday against Milwaukee, failed to collect a three-inning save this time out by finishing the ninth inning, Bender entered with two outs and two runners on to wrap things up. The 30-year-old required only three pitches to fan Reds outfielder Austin Hays and notch his second save of the season. The Marlins bullpen has been difficult to navigate, with seven different relievers tallying saves so far, led by Calvin Faucher (eight) and Ronny Henriquez (five). Henriquez remains the favorite to garner future chances based on his recent usage, but Bender, with his 2.11 ERA in 38.1 innings, could enter the mix as well.

  • Aaron Ashby RP | MIL

Brewers' Aaron Ashby: X-rays return negative

X-rays on Ashby's left hand came back negative after being struck with a comebacker during Monday's appearance against the Dodgers, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.

Ashby took a comebacker off his pitching hand during the seventh inning but managed to remain in the game. Further imaging revealed that he avoided a significant injury, though he should be considered day-to-day until the club has a chance to re-evaluate and clear the southpaw to return to the mound.
