Pirates' Oneil Cruz: Hits decisive homer in win

Cruz went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in Saturday's 2-0 win over the Diamondbacks.

Cruz's 410-foot blast in the second inning proved to be the game's only offense. In eight games since the All-Star break, the 26-year-old has gone 8-for-29 with four extra-base hits, five RBI, three runs scored and five stolen bases. For the year, he's slashing .217/.318/.423 with 17 homers, 42 RBI, 52 runs scored and a major-league leading 34 steals across 393 plate appearances.

  • Matt Shaw RF | CHC

Cubs' Matt Shaw: Brings home three runs

Shaw went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run and an additional RBI in Saturday's 6-1 win over the White Sox.

Shaw's two-run homer in the seventh inning extended the Cubs' lead to three, and he brought home another run after drawing a bases-loaded walk in the eighth. Shaw has come out of the All-Star break with an eight-game hit streak, going 11-for-23 (.478) with four home runs, nine RBI and two steals over that span.

  • David Bednar RP | NYY

Pirates' David Bednar: Earns 16th save

Bednar earned the save in Saturday's 2-0 win over the Diamondbacks, striking out two in a perfect ninth inning.

Bednar was called upon to protect a two-run lead in the ninth and needed just 13 pitches to convert his 16th straight save. In addition to his flawless saves streak, the 30-year-old has now gone 22 straight appearances without allowing an earned run. He owns a 2.19 ERA, 1.05 WHIP and 51:10 K:BB across 37 innings this season and continues to boost his trade value ahead of next week's deadline.

  • Diamondbacks' Andrew Hoffmann: Moved to Arizona

Kansas City traded Hoffmann to the Diamondbacks in exchange for Randal Grichuk on Saturday, Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports.

Hoffmann got into three major-league games with KC this season, posting a 3.86 ERA, 2.36 WHIP and 5:4 K:BB over 4.2 innings. He logged 15 starts over 29 appearances in the minors in 2024 but has been a full-time reliever this year, recording a 2.25 ERA, 1.12 WHIP and 55:10 K:BB over 40 frames spanning 32 appearances with Triple-A Omaha. Per Aaron Hughes of SI.com, Hoffmann will begin his Diamondbacks tenure with Triple-A Reno.

  • Jacob Young CF | WAS

Nationals' Jacob Young: Suffers finger injury Saturday

Young was removed from Saturday's game against Minnesota after taking a pitch off his right index finger while trying to bunt, Mark Zuckerman of MASNSports.com reports.

Young was looked at by a trainer after the pitch struck his finger, and the determination was made to pull him from the contest. Alex Call finished Young's at-bat and subsequently took over in center field. If Young has to miss any additional time, Call would be the leading candidate to gain more starts in center. The Nationals announced during the game that Young's initial diagnosis is a right index finger contusion.

  • Tylor Megill SP | NYM

Mets' Tylor Megill: Slated for bullpen session

Megill (elbow) threw a bullpen session Thursday and is scheduled for another Sunday, Laura Albanese of Newsday reports.

Megill was placed on the 15-day IL with a sprained elbow June 17 and was transferred to the 60-day IL on July 8. Mets manager Carlos Mendoza said Saturday that the righty hurler is trending in the right direction, though Megill isn't eligible to be activated until mid-August.

  • Phillies' Daniel Robert: Scoreless streak ends Saturday

Robert allowed two runs on one hit and one walk in one inning of relief during Saturday's 9-4 win over the Yankees. He struck out one.

Saturday ended Robert's scoreless streak of eight outings, but it at least came with the Phillies holding a 9-1 lead in the seventh frame. The 30-year-old right-hander should continue to work in low-leverage situations in Philadelphia's bullpen, but he does own a respectable 2.35 ERA, 1.30 WHIP and 10:5 K:BB over his last 7.2 innings since being recalled from the minor leagues.

  • Bryson Stott 2B | PHI

Phillies' Bryson Stott: Adds two walks, stolen base in rout

Stott went 1-for-3 with two walks, a run scored and a stolen base in Saturday's 9-4 win over the Yankees.

That's now three straight games with at least one hit for Stott, although he's struggled mightily as a whole since the start of May. The middle infielder is slashing a woeful .203/.275/.299 with five home runs, seven doubles and 26 RBI over his last 257 plate appearances (66 outings), but he's at least stolen nine bases during this span. Stott had worked his way into Philadelphia's leadoff spot consistently from mid-April to early June, though he hasn't hit first since June 8 and is unlikely to regain that position unless he really begins to heat up at the dish.

  • Trea Turner SS | PHI

Phillies' Trea Turner: Fuels big day for offense

Turner went 2-for-6 with two doubles, two runs scored and two RBI in Saturday's 9-4 win over the Yankees.

The shortstop produced his fourth straight multi-hit performance and racked up multiple extra-base hits for the first time since June 27. Turner has reached base safely in all eight contests since the All-Star break, batting .382 (13-for-34) from atop the Phillies' order with three doubles, a triple, a stolen base, four RBI and nine runs.

The 32-year-old has come out of the All-Star break firing, batting .303 (10-for-33) over the last eight games with four doubles, five home runs, eight RBI and nine runs.
