Bubba Chandler SP | PIT
Pirates' Bubba Chandler: Officially promoted to majors
The Pirates selected Chandler's contract from Triple-A Indianapolis on Friday.
Chandler is expected to make his major-league debut out of the bullpen in Friday's game against the Rockies, most likely pitching multiple innings of relief behind starter Braxton Ashcraft. Though manager Don Kelly has indicated that Chandler will fill a bulk-relief role for the Pirates to begin his time in the majors, the 22-year-old could get the chance to make starts before the end of the season. He posted a 4.05 ERA, 1.48 WHIP and 121:53 K:BB in 100 innings for Indianapolis prior to his promotion.

Giants' Landen Roupp: Diagnosed with bone bruise
Thursday's MRI revealed Roupp has a bone bruise in his left knee, and the pitcher will seek out a second opinion, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.
It's a generally positive result for Roupp, who was struck by a comebacker and fell awkwardly during Wednesday's start before requiring a cart to exit the field of play. While Roupp is on the IL, Carson Whisenhunt should fill the open spot in the rotation.

Dodgers' Shohei Ohtani: Returning Friday
Ohtani (thigh) is serving as the designated hitter and batting out of the leadoff spot against the Padres on Friday.

Ohtani has reached base safely in all 18 games since Aug. 1, and over that span he has posted a 1.266 OPS with 20 runs, four steals, six home runs and 10 RBI in 82 plate appearances.
