  • Diamondbacks' Lourdes Gurriel: Taking seat Sunday

Gurriel is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Dodgers.

The veteran outfielder had started the previous 16 games and will get a well-deserved off day over posting an .874 OPS with five home runs and 21 RBI during that stretch. Jake McCarthy will receive a start in left field with Gurriel on the bench Sunday.

  • Rockies' Hunter Goodman: Not in Sunday's lineup

Goodman is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Cubs.

Goodman started the first two games of the series and will receive Sunday off after going 4-for-8 with an RBI and a run scored. Braxton Fulford will take over behind the plate and bat seventh in the series finale.

  • Rockies' Warming Bernabel: Remaining on bench Sunday

Bernabel (knee/quadriceps) is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Cubs.

Bernabel exited Saturday's 4-3 loss due to a knee and quad bruise, and he'll be held out of the lineup for the series finale as a result. The 23-year-old should be considered day-to-day while Kyle Farmer receives a start at first base.

  • Jordan Wicks SP | CHC

Cubs' Jordan Wicks: Returns to Triple-A

The Cubs optioned Wicks to Triple-A Iowa on Sunday.

The left-hander was called up by Chicago last weekend and made two appearances, giving up one run across two innings. Wicks could rejoin the big club for the closing stretch of the regular season but will return to Triple-A for now.

  • Porter Hodge SP | CHC

Cubs' Porter Hodge: Returns to big leagues

The Cubs recalled Hodge from Triple-A Iowa on Sunday.

The right-hander got opportunities to close early in the season, but he's been at Triple-A since late July after recovering from a shoulder injury. Hodge has struggled to a 6.85 ERA, 1.56 WHIP and 25:12 K:BB across 23.2 major-league innings this year, and he didn't fare much better for Iowa with a 6.61 ERA. Daniel Palencia has since locked down the closer role for the Cubs, and Hodge will likely fill a lower-leverage role.

  • Ryan Gusto RP | MIA

Marlins' Ryan Gusto: Lands on injured list

The Marlins placed Gusto on the 15-day injured list Sunday due to a right shoulder impingement.

The right-hander was tagged for nine runs during most recent start versus Atlanta on Wednesday and will now be sidelined for at least the next couple weeks. Gusto won't have much time to get healthy before the end of the season, and he won't be guaranteed a rotation spot even if he does return to the mound for the Marlins in 2025.

  • Luis Torrens C | NYM

Mets' Luis Torrens: Getting break Sunday

Torrens is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Marlins.

Torrens will rest after starting the previous two contests and going 1-for-7 with a home run, a walk and three RBI. Hayden Senger will step in behind the dish Sunday and bat ninth.

  • Freddy Tarnok RP | MIA

Marlins' Freddy Tarnok: Rejoins big club

The Marlins recalled Tarnok from Triple-A Jacksonville on Sunday.

Miami had optioned Tarnok to Triple-A on Thursday, but he'll rejoin the big club just three days later after Ryan Gusto (shoulder) was placed on the injured list in a corresponding move. Tarnok has made three appearances out of the Marlins bullpen this season, covering 4.1 innings while allowing two earned runs on one hit and two walks.

  • Eric Wagaman DH | NYM

Marlins' Eric Wagaman: On bench against righty

Wagaman is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Mets.

Wagaman has heated up in August with an .868 OPS over 23 games, but he's seen only 74 plate appearances on the month and is still stuck in a part-time role. He'll hit the bench for the second time in the Marlins' last three matchups against right-handers, but Wagaman should have a regular spot in the lineup versus left-handed pitching.

  • Connor Norby 1B | MIA

Marlins' Connor Norby: Taking Sunday off

Norby is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Mets.

Norby will get a breather after returning from the injured list Friday and starting two straight games, going 3-for-7 with two doubles, two walks, three RBI and three runs. Javier Sanoja will cover third base Sunday.
