Ryan Thompson RP | ARI
Diamondbacks' Ryan Thompson: Returns from injured list
The Diamondbacks activated Thompson (shoulder) from the 15-day injured list Monday.
Thompson has been shelved since early July with a right scapular strain but is ready to go after making a pair of scoreless rehab appearances with Triple-A Reno. The 33-year-old could be in the mix for saves as part of an unsettled Diamondbacks bullpen.

Sean Manaea RP | NYM
Mets' Sean Manaea: Struggles continue in no-decision
Manaea took a no-decision Monday against the Tigers, allowing five runs on eight hits and one walk in 3.2 innings. He struck out six.
After opening his season with a 2.08 ERA through his first four starts, Manaea simply hasn't been able to get himself back on track. The veteran southpaw has yielded at least four runs in five of his last six outings, and he's still yet to pitch at least six frames in any appearance so far in 2025. Although Manaea owns a strong 59:9 K:BB over 45 innings, his 5.60 ERA makes him a risky fantasy starter for his next scheduled start against the first-place Phillies.

Humberto Cruz SP | SD
Padres' Humberto Cruz: Requires UCL repair
Cruz underwent internal brace surgery last week to repair a torn UCL in his right elbow, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
Though Cruz's procedure typically entails a shorter recovery timeline than Tommy John surgery, the Padres are likely to proceed cautiously with the 18-year-old's rehab program, which could extend through the end of the 2026 season. Signed out of Mexico for $750,000 in February 2024, Cruz made his full-season debut earlier this summer after being assigned to Lake Elsinore on July 1. Before landing on the 7-day injured list Aug. 19, Cruz made six starts for Lake Elsinore and logged a 6.97 ERA, 1.40 WHIP and 20:9 K:BB in 20.2 innings.

Diamondbacks' Alek Thomas: Bowing out of starting nine
Thomas is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Rangers, Alex Weiner of ArizonaSports.com reports.
The left-handed-hitting Thomas had been included in the lineup in each of the Diamondbacks' last three matchups versus left-handed starting pitchers, but he'll take a seat Monday as the Rangers send southpaw Patrick Corbin to the bump. Blaze Alexander has been seeing most of his playing time at third base and second base of late but will cover center field in place of Thomas in the series opener.

Fernando Tatis Jr. RF | SD
Padres' Fernando Tatis: Cleared to start Monday
Tatis (hamstring) will start in right field and bat leadoff in Monday's game against the Orioles, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
Tatis revealed after Sunday's 7-2 loss to the Twins that he had contended with some right hamstring tightness during the contest, but the Padres weren't concerned enough about the injury to send the outfielder in for further testing. The 26-year-old appears to have bounced back well from the issue overnight and will remain in the lineup for the series opener against Monday, occupying his familiar spot in the field and in the batting order.

Jackson Merrill CF | SD
Padres' Jackson Merrill: Activated, not starting Monday
The Padres activated Merrill (ankle) from the 10-day injured list, but he'll remain out of the lineup for Monday's series opener versus the Orioles.
Merrill missed the past two weeks of action with a left ankle sprain, but he will bypass a rehab assignment and go directly back onto the Padres' active roster. Ramon Laureano has been filling in in center field in Merrill's absence, but once Merrill rejoins the lineup, Laureano will likely shift to left field, and Gavin Sheets will presumably move into more of a part-time role.

Andruw Monasterio SS | BOS
Brewers' Andruw Monasterio: Sitting in Ortiz's return
Monasterio is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Phillies.
With Joey Ortiz (hamstring) returning from the 10-day injured list and stepping back in at shortstop Monday, Monasterio appears set to move back into a utility role. Monasterio filled in admirably for Ortiz, covering shortstop for each of the past 10 games while slashing .371/.405/.657 with two home runs, four doubles, one walk, five runs and four RBI. Monasterio still has an active 11-game hitting streak, during which the 28-year-old has raised his season average from .242 to .294.

Isaac Collins LF | KC
Brewers' Isaac Collins: Resting Monday
Collins is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Phillies.
The rookie will be idle for the series opener while the Brewers go with Jackson Chourio, Blake Perkins and Sal Frelick as their starting outfield from left to right. Collins had been included in the lineup in each of Milwaukee's previous four contests, going 5-for-14 with two doubles, two walks, one stolen base, five RBI and one run.

Andrew Vaughn 1B | MIL
Brewers' Andrew Vaughn: Heading to bench Monday
Vaughn is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Phillies.
After going just 5-for-30 (.167 average) with two walks while starting in each of the past eight games, Vaughn will exit the lineup and receive a mental reset as the Brewers kick off a three-game set with the Phillies. Jake Bauers will fill in for Vaughn at first base.
