  • Rockies' Juan Mejia: Struggles, still wins

Mejia (1-4) allowed two earned runs on three hits across one inning but still earned the win Friday against the Giants. He did not record a walk or a strikeout. Mejia was called upon to hold the Rockies' deficit to one run in the ninth inning, but he allowed four of the first six batters he faced to reach base. The offense bailed him out with a walk-off home run, but Mejia's recent struggles continued with the outing. He's allowed at least one earned run in three straight appearances, totaling five earned runs allowed across 2.2 innings. Mejia is still being used in high-leverage situations, though his potential share of save chances is murky.

  • Rockies' Juan Mejia: First blown save in loss

Mejia was charged with a blown save Wednesday in the 5-4 loss to the Rangers, giving up one hit with one strikeout over two-thirds of an inning. With the Rockies holding a one-run lead, Mejia was called upon to put out a ninth-inning fire with the bases loaded and one out, but a passed ball and a single resulted in two inherited runners coming across to score, tagging him with his first blown save. The right-hander has recorded three saves this year and should remain in the mix at closer for Colorado given that he has not been charged with a run in his past seven appearances and holds a 3.80 ERA over 19 outings overall.

  • Rockies' Juan Mejia: Registers third save

Mejia earned a save against the Rangers on Monday, allowing one hit and striking out one batter over one scoreless inning. Mejia entered in the ninth inning with Colorado clinging to a one-run lead. He gave up a two-out single but managed to close things out for his third save of the campaign. The Rockies' closer situation has been as flexible as any in the majors this season, as four different Colorado pitchers have multiple saves. Victor Vodnik was the early leader of the committee, but he's struggled of late and was charged with three runs without recording an out in the eighth inning Monday. With that said, Mejia is certainly a candidate for additional save chances moving forward.

  • Rockies' Juan Mejia: Logs save Monday

Mejia earned a save against the Astros on Monday, walking one batter and striking out one over 1.2 hitless and scoreless innings. Houston had already scored twice in the top of the eighth inning when Mejia entered with runners at second and third and only one out. The right-hander impressively put out the fire, getting a flyout and groundout around an intentional walk to prevent any additional runs from scoring. Mejia remained in the game for the ninth and worked a 1-2-3 inning to secure his first save of the campaign. Victor Vodnik, who successfully converted a save Sunday, had worked on consecutive days and was unavailable for the ninth inning Monday. Still, given Mejia's impressive escape act in the eighth, it wouldn't be surprising if he gets additional chances to close in a relatively unsettled Rockies bullpen.

  • Rockies' Juan Mejia: Survives for first save

Mejia picked up the save in Sunday's 6-5 victory over the Diamondbacks, allowing one run on three hits and no walks with no strikeouts over one inning. With current closer Victor Vodnik having pitched four of the previous five days, Mejia received the call in the ninth to convert his first career save. Mejia was not sharp, allowing three consecutive singles with one out to load the bases. The 25-year-old allowed a run on a James McCann sacrifice fly before inducing a popup to wrap the contest. The Dominican righty has pitched to a 4.20 ERA, 1.22 WHIP and 49:15 K:BB across 45 total innings and could be in consideration for future save opportunities if anything happens to Vodnik while he fills in for Seth Halvorsen (elbow).

  • Rockies' Juan Mejia: Bumped down to Triple-A

The Rockies optioned Mejia to Triple-A Albuquerque on Sunday. Mejia was unlikely to be available for the next couple of days after he gave up seven runs (four earned) in 1.1 innings and tossed 44 pitches in Saturday's 21-0 loss to the Padres, so the Rockies opted to replace him on the 26-man roster. Colorado called up lefty Ryan Rolison to take Mejia's spot in the bullpen.

  • Rockies' Juan Mejia: Optioned to Albuquerque

The Rockies optioned Mejia to Triple-A Albuquerque on Friday. Mejia spent all of last season with Double-A Hartford, where he accumulated a 5.00 ERA and 1.61 WHIP alongside a 65:30 K:BB across 54 innings. After throwing three scoreless innings in Cactus League play, he'll receive a bump to Triple-A for his age-24 season, though his past minor-league performance doesn't inspire much confidence in a promotion to the majors.

  • Rockies' Juan Mejia: Bumped from major-league camp

Mejia was optioned to Double-A Hartford by the Rockies on Friday, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports. Mejia was added to the 40-man roster this offseason and permitted two runs in three appearances this spring. His control needs work, but Mejia misses bats and will turn 24 this season, so he could push for his big-league debut sometime in 2024.
