  • Keider Montero SP | DET

Tigers' Keider Montero: Dazzles in no-decision Monday

Montero tossed 6.1 scoreless innings but did not factor into the decision in Monday's game against the Guardians. He allowed three hits and a walk, while striking out four.

Montero certainly pitched well enough to earn his second win in the majors, but Gavin Williams was equally as impressive for Cleveland, though the Tigers scored once in the eighth for a 1-0 win. After allowing nine runs over 8.2 innings in his first two MLB appearances, Montero has turned things around, allowing just two runs across 12.2 innings in his two most recent outings. The 24-year-old has good stuff, and given his recent performances, he may stick in the rotation for the foreseeable future. He's currently penciled in to start again Saturday against the Dodgers before the All-Star break.

  • Grant Anderson RP | MIL

Rangers' Grant Anderson: Back down to Round Rock

The Rangers optioned Anderson to Triple-A Round Rock on Monday.

The move is to make room on the 26-man roster for right-hander Daniel Robert. Anderson pitched two scoreless innings Sunday against the Rays, allowing just one hit while striking out three. Across 17 major-league outings this season, Anderson has an 8.53 ERA and 1.63 WHIP over 19 innings.

  • Antoine Kelly RP | CHC

Rangers' Antoine Kelly: Jettisoned from 40-man roster

The Rangers designated Kelly for assignment Monday.

Kelly, 24, has had a rough 2024 campaign, first missing time with a shoulder issue and then posting a 9.35 ERA and 24:22 K:BB across 17.1 innings. However, the left-hander thrived in 2023 upon a full-time move to relief, collecting a 2.04 ERA and 79:23 K:BB over 57.1 frames between the Double- and Triple-A levels. Kelly should draw interest via trade or waivers.

  • Tommy Pham DH | CHW

White Sox's Tommy Pham: Dealing with dental issue

Pham was scratched from Monday's lineup against the Twins due to a dental issue, Scott Merkin of MLB.com reports.

Pham was in the initial lineup as the White Sox' center fielder and leadoff man, but he'll take at least a day to recover from some dental work. Corey Julks entered the lineup in center field and Lenyn Sosa was moved up to the top of Chicago's batting order.

  • Mike Trout CF | LAA

Angels' Mike Trout: Could start batting practice soon

Trout (knee) jogged on the field and hit some soft toss Monday, and the 32-year-old outfielder said he should progress to batting practice in a few days, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports.

Trout continues to work his way back from surgery on the torn meniscus in his left knee in early May. It took him until late June to return to baseball activities, but he has been ramping up his workouts and is close to taking the next step in his rehab program. Trout is aiming to return from the injured list by the end of July, but he'll likely need a rehab assignment before returning to major-league action. Prior to his injury, Trout was slashing .220/.325/.541 with 10 home runs and 14 RBI over 126 plate appearances.

  • Tommy Pham DH | CHW

White Sox's Tommy Pham: Scratched from lineup

Pham was scratched from the lineup for Monday's game against the Twins.

It's not yet clear whether it's injury related or perhaps trade related. Pham had been set to start in center field and bat leadoff, but now Corey Julks will handle center field and Lenyn Sosa will be elevated to the top of the batting order. The White Sox should have more on Pham's status soon.

  • Zachary Neto SS | LAA

Angels' Zach Neto: Day off Monday

Neto is not in the lineup for Monday's contest versus the Rangers.

It's Neto's first day off since May 24. The young shortstop is just 4-for-35 at the dish over his last nine games, so it's probably not a bad time to give him a day to clear his head. Luis Guillorme will fill in at short against Texas.

  • Taylor Ward RF | SEA

Angels' Taylor Ward: Expected back in action Tuesday

Ward (knee) is not in the lineup for Monday's game versus the Rangers, Sam Blum of The Athletic reports.

Ward banged up his knee when he crashed into the outfield wall at Wrigley Field during Sunday's loss to the Cubs. He is feeling much better Monday and fully expects to return to the lineup Tuesday. Kevin Pillar will occupy left field Monday in Ward's stead.

  • Miguel Sano 3B | LAA

Angels' Miguel Sano: DFA'd by Halos

The Angels designated Sano for assignment Monday.

The move is to make room on the roster for Anthony Rendon (hamstring), who was reinstated from the 60-day injured list Monday. Sano came off the 10-day IL on June 25 after recovering from knee inflammation and was in contention for an everyday role at third base after Luis Rengifo (wrist) was placed on the injured list. However, Sano has gone just 1-for-22 with nine strikeouts since his return, and his playing time was set to diminish even further with Rendon off the IL. Should Sano clear waivers, he will have the option of sticking with the Halos in Triple-A or decline an outright assignment and seek to join another club.

  • Anthony Rendon 3B | LAA

Angels' Anthony Rendon: Activated from 60-day IL

The Angels activated Rendon (hamstring) from the 60-day injured list Monday.

Rendon has been sidelined since late April with a torn left hamstring but convinced the Angels he was ready by facing some live pitching and working out. He skipped a rehab assignment, so rust is likely a given that he hasn't played a game in 11 weeks. Rendon could be eased into everyday playing time but eventually will be a regular between designated hitter and/or third base. He is leading off and playing third base Monday versus the Rangers in his return to action.
