  • Astros' Cesar Salazar: Optioned to Sugar Land

The Astros optioned Salazar to Triple-A Sugar Land on Monday, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports.

The move is to make room on the 26-man roster for Victor Caratini (hip), who was activated off the 10-day injured list Monday. Salazar has served as the backup catcher since he was initially called up June 11, and across nine major-league games he went 7-for-22 with two doubles and eight RBI. In Triple-A this season, Salazar is slashing .274/.387/.458 with six home runs and 35 RBI across 204 plate appearances.

  • Mariners' Julio Rodriguez: Still day-to-day following MRI

Mariners manager Scott Servais said Monday that Rodriguez (ankle) remains day-to-day, Adam Jude of the Seattle Times reports.

The outfielder underwent an MRI but Servais either didn't have the results or wouldn't reveal them, simply indicating that the test confirmed Rodriguez isn't dealing with a serious right ankle injury. He suffered a sprain Sunday and is not in Monday's lineup versus the Angels, but it's looking like he will avoid the 10-day injured list.

  • Astros' Victor Caratini: Activated off injured list

The Astros activated Caratini (hip) from the 10-day injured list Monday, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports.

Caratini completed four rehab outings during his recovery from a strained left hip, going 4-for-10 with one home run and two RBI. To make room for Caratini on the 26-man roster, the Astros optioned Cesar Salazar to Triple-A Sugar Land.

  • Nolan Schanuel 1B | LAA

Angels' Nolan Schanuel: Back in lineup Monday

Schanuel (calf) is starting at first base and batting second in Monday's series opener against the Mariners, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports.

Schanuel began Sunday's game in the dugout after exiting early Saturday due to left calf tightness. However, the lefty-hitting first baseman was able to pinch hit Sunday, going 2-for-2 with an RBI single in an 8-5 win over Oakland. Schanuel will face off against Mariners right-hander Bryce Miller on Monday.

  • Angels' Jack Kochanowicz: Sent back to minors

The Angels optioned Kochanowicz to Double-A Rocket City on Monday.

Kochanowicz's first stint in the big leagues wasn't promising, as he was torched for 12 runs (11 earned) over seven innings in his two starts. The big right-hander will return to Rocket City, with whom he's turned in a 4.55 ERA and 79:23 K:BB over 91 innings in 2024.

  • Jose Quijada RP | LAA

Angels' Jose Quijada: Activated for season debut

The Angels activated Quijada (elbow) from the 60-day injured list Monday.

Quijada has completed the long road back from May 2023 Tommy John surgery. The left-hander allowed two runs with a 13:4 K:BB over 7.2 innings covering nine rehab appearances. The Angels are likely to deploy him in middle relief.

  • Wilyer Abreu RF | BOS

Red Sox's Wilyer Abreu: On bench against southpaw

Abreu is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Rockies.

Abreu will join David Hamilton, Dominic Smith and Reese McGuire on the bench as the Red Sox face a lefty starter (Austin Gomber) for the second day in a row. Rob Refsnyder will pick up a start in left field in place of Abreu.

  • David Hamilton 3B | MIL

Red Sox's David Hamilton: Hitting bench Monday

Hamilton is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Rockies.

After stealing a pair of bases in Sunday's 9-6 loss to the Dodgers to bring his total to 25 on the season, Hamilton will get a chance to rest his legs in the series opener in Colorado. Jamie Westbrook will enter the lineup in Hamilton's stead, batting ninth while manning second base.

  • Dominic Smith DH | ATL

Red Sox's Dominic Smith: Taking seat against lefty

Smith is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Rockies.

The left-handed first baseman will be on the bench for the second day in a row while the Red Sox face off against a southpaw (Austin Gomber). Romy Gonzalez will fill in for Smith at first base.

  • Abraham Toro 1B | BOS

    Athletics' Abraham Toro: Sitting Monday

Toro is not in the starting lineup for Monday's series opener against the Astros.

Toro, who was activated from the 10-day injured list Sunday after recovering from a strained hamstring, went 0-for-4 in his first game since June 21. The team will likely bring the third baseman along slowly as he works his way back up to game speed. Brett Harris will start at the hot corner and bat eighth against Houston right-hander Spencer Arrighetti.
