  • DJ LeMahieu 2B | NYY

Yankees' DJ LeMahieu: Taking seat Friday

LeMahieu is out of the lineup for Friday's game against the Red Sox.

LeMahieu has stumbled to a .499 OPS in 154 plate appearances this season and is at risk of losing more playing time if his bat doesn't perk up. Oswaldo Cabrera will bat ninth and play third base Friday.

  • Royals' Maikel Garcia: Getting breather Friday

Garcia is out of the lineup for Friday's game against the Cubs.

Garcia started each of the Royals' first six games coming out of the All-Star break and will get the night off Friday. Nick Loftin will bat seventh and man the hot corner in Garcia's place.

  • Orioles' Cedric Mullins: Sitting again versus right-hander

Mullins is not in the lineup for Friday's game versus the Padres, Rich Dubroff of BaltimoreBaseball.com reports.

For the second straight game, Mullins is absent from the lineup with a right-hander -- in this case, Adam Mazur -- on the rubber. Colton Cowser will be in center field for the Orioles while Heston Kjerstad handles left.

  • Jonny DeLuca RF | TB

Rays' Jonny DeLuca: Chance to seize starting role

DeLuca is starting in left field and batting fifth Friday against the Reds, Ryan Bass of Bally Sports Sun reports.

The 26-year-old also manned left field Thursday, and while he hasn't been a consistent lineup presence in recent weeks he should see more opportunities after Randy Arozarena was traded to the Mariners. DeLuca has struggled in 57 big-league games this season with a .169/.242/.271 slash line, and he may need to be more productive in order to claim a regular role.

  • Parker Meadows CF | DET

Tigers' Parker Meadows: Rehab games coming soon

Meadows (hamstring) is expected to begin a rehab assignment soon, Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press reports.

Meadows was cleared to run the bases Wednesday and didn't have any issues, so he will continue his progression with more running Saturday. It's possible he'll be ready to play in rehab games after that. Meadows has been shelved for most of July with a right hamstring strain but could be tracking toward a return in early August.

  • Casey Mize SP | SD

Tigers' Casey Mize: Slated for bullpen session

Mize (hamstring) will throw a bullpen session Saturday, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.

It will be his first time on a mound since he went down with a left hamstring strain in late June. Mize will need time to get built back up and is likely several weeks away from a return.

  • Leody Taveras CF | BAL

Rangers' Leody Taveras: Absent from lineup

Taveras is not in the lineup for Friday's game in Toronto.

Wyatt Langford is making his second start this week in center field while Taveras sits. Robbie Grossman will be in left field for the Rangers.

  • Josh H. Smith LF | TOR

Rangers' Josh Smith: Sitting out Friday

Smith is not in the lineup for Friday's contest in Toronto.

The left-handed hitting Smith will get the day off as the Blue Jays send southpaw Yusei Kikuchi to the hill. Righty-hitting Jonathan Ornelas will handle third base duties.

  • Daulton Varsho CF | HOU

Blue Jays' Daulton Varsho: Absent from starting nine

Varsho is out of the lineup for Friday's game against the Rangers.

After making eight straight starts, Varsho will get the night off Friday against lefty Andrew Heaney. Davis Schneider, Kevin Kiermaier and George Springer will fill the outfield from left to right. Varsho is 4-for-21 with one RBI and one run since the All-Star break.

  • Blue Jays' Yerry Rodriguez: Summoned from minors

The Blue Jays recalled Rodriguez from Triple-A Buffalo on Friday, Keegan Matheson of MLB.com reports.

Rodriguez appeared in 12 games with the Rangers earlier this season, allowing 13 runs with a 12:11 K:BB over 17 innings. He figures to operate in low-leverage spots.
