  • Darell Hernaiz SS | ATH

Athletics' Darell Hernaiz: Solid workload in rehab games

Hernaiz (ankle) played in back-to-back rehab games for Triple-A Las Vegas on Friday and Saturday, logging eight innings at second base in the former and taking a full allotment of plate appearances as the designated hitter in the latter.

Hernaiz went a combined 2-for-9 during that stretch and has hit .364 over 24 plate appearances across six rehab games overall. The 22-year-old has also gotten the green light for a pair of steal attempts -- both successful -- during his time in the minors, supporting the notion his previously injured ankle could be back to full strength. Hernaiz appears well on track to be activated from the 60-day injured list at some point early in the coming week.

  • Parker Meadows CF | DET

Tigers' Parker Meadows: Ready for rehab assignment

Meadows (hamstring) will begin his rehab assignment with Triple-A Toledo on Sunday, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.

Meadows is ready for game action again after he landed on the 10-day injured list July 8 due to a right hamstring strain. He'll serve as the designated hitter for Toledo on Sunday, and then play center field Tuesday following the Triple-A club's team off day Monday, per Jason Beck of MLB.com. If Meadows checks out fine after the two rehab games, he could be ready to rejoin the Tigers as soon as next weekend for the club's four-game series with the Royals.

  • Guardians' Peter Strzelecki: Headed back to minors

The Guardians optioned Strzelecki to Triple-A Columbus on Sunday.

The move is to make room on the 26-man roster for left-hander Joey Cantillo, who will make his major-league debut Sunday against the Phillies. Strzelecki made four outings out of the Guardians' bullpen after being recalled from Columbus on July 21. Over those four outings, the 29-year-old right-hander allowed one run on five hits while striking out five across 4.2 innings. In 29 Triple-A appearances this season, Strzelecki has a 4.18 ERA and 1.15 WHIP over 32.1 innings.

  • Rays' J.D. Gonzalez: Moved to Tampa Bay

The Rays acquired Gonzalez, right-hander Dylan Lesko and outfielder Homer Bush from the Padres on Sunday in exchange for right-hander Jason Adam, Joel Sherman of the New York Post reports.

The 18-year-old catcher was selected 96th overall by San Diego during the 2023 First-Year Player Draft and has played his first professional ball this season. Gonzalez has struggled at the Single-A level with a .205/.322/.230 slash line and 27.6 percent strikeout rate, but he still has plenty of upside given his age.

  • Nolan Schanuel 1B | LAA

Angels' Nolan Schanuel: Solo homer in loss

Schanuel went 1-for-2 with a solo homer and two walks in Saturday's loss to the Athletics.

Schanuel drew a leadoff walk in his first trip to the plate but was left stranded. He then came back with a solo homer in the bottom of the third, which would end up being the only run produced by the Angels' offense in the loss. The first baseman has now homered in back-to-back games and has hit safely in four of his last five. Over that latter stretch he's batting .333 (5-for-15) with three RBI and five runs scored. Schanuel has also drawn at least one walk in five consecutive games.

  • Daz Cameron RF | TOR

Athletics' Daz Cameron: Reaches twice in low-scoring win

Cameron went 1-for-3 with a stolen base and a walk in a win over the Angels on Saturday.

Cameron managed to hit safely for the fourth straight start dating back to July 12 and added his first steal since June 1 for good measure. The 27-year-old is seeing occasional opportunities in the outfield and has also slotted in twice as the designated hitter, but his .184 average and .626 OPS don't make much of a case for reliable playing time.

  • Athletics' Lawrence Butler: Productive from top of order in win

Butler went 2-for-4 with a stolen base and a run in a win over the Angels on Saturday.

Butler continued to set the table effectively out of the leadoff spot in yet another win for the Athletics, producing his eighth multi-hit effort in the last 10 games. The surging rookie has boosted his batting average and OPS by 55 and 191 points, respectively, in that torrid stretch, and he's now just a pair of steals away from reaching double digits in that category.

  • Brent Rooker DH | ATH

Athletics' Brent Rooker: Another productive showing Saturday

Rooker went 3-for-4 with a stolen base and a run in a win over the Angels on Saturday.

Rooker authored one of two multi-hit efforts for the Athletics on the night, his first such tally since July 20. In the process, he extended his hitting streak to 12 games, a blistering stretch during which he's now boasting a .383/.423/.872 slash line while lacing nine of 18 hits for extra bases and knocking in 17 runs. The stolen base was a welcome bonus for fantasy managers, and it puts Rooker just three more swipes away from his first career double-digit tally in that category.

  • Rays' Jeffrey Springs: Returns from IL

The Rays reinstated Springs (elbow) from the 60-day injured list Sunday.

Though Springs has been added back to the Rays' 40-man roster and 26-man active roster, he won't make his season debut with the big club until Tuesday against the Marlins, per Ryan Bass of Bally Sports Sun. The upcoming outing against the Marlins will be the left-hander's first in the big leagues since undergoing Tommy John surgery in April of 2023. In his last full season in 2022, he went 9-5 over 25 starts with a 2.46 ERA, 1.07 WHIP and 144:31 K:BB across 135.1 innings. Springs reached five innings and 82 pitches in his final rehab outing with Triple-A Durham this past Thursday, so he shouldn't face any major restrictions with his workload against Miami.

  • Xzavion Curry RP | NYM

Guardians' Xzavion Curry: Not starting Sunday

Curry won't start Sunday's game against the Phillies as previously scheduled, Paul Hoynes of The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.

The 26-year-old was initially penciled in to start Sunday, but the Guardians have instead called up Joey Cantillo from Triple-A Columbus to make his MLB debut. Curry allowed two runs over 4.1 innings during his previous start and has a 4.98 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and 13:4 K:BB across 21.2 big-league innings this season. Matthew Boyd (elbow) is also nearing a return from the injured list, so Curry may not have many opportunities to start going forward and could move to the bullpen on a permanent basis.
