Lane Thomas LF | ATL
Guardians' Lane Thomas: Batting second in team debut
Thomas will start in right field and bat second in Tuesday's game against the Tigers.
Thomas will be thrown right into the fire after being acquired via trade from the Nationals on Monday. He should serve as the Guardians' everyday right fielder down the stretch but also offers the flexibility to play some center field, if needed.

Will Brennan RF | SF
Guardians' Will Brennan: Optioned to make room for Thomas
The Guardians optioned Brennan to Triple-A Columbus on Tuesday, Mandy Bell of MLB.com reports.
Brennan was sent to the minors as the corresponding transaction for the addition of trade-deadline pickup Lane Thomas to the roster. He easily leads the Guardians with 50 starts in right field this season, but Brennan's playing time is now slated to go to Thomas. The 26-year-old Brennan is slashing just .233/.291/.379 over 247 plate appearances this season.

Tigers' Tyler Holton: Serving as opener Tuesday
Holton will serve as the Tigers' opening pitcher in Tuesday's contest versus the Guardians, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.
Holton will draw his fourth opener assignment of the season, with three having come within the past week. In his previous three starts, Holton has allowed one run with a 5:2 K:BB over 5.1 innings. The Tigers haven't announced their plans for once Holton exits the contest, but Joey Wentz is available on three days' rest and could serve as a bulk reliever after covering at least two innings in four of his past five appearances.

Steward Berroa CF | PHI
Blue Jays' Steward Berroa: Swipes two bags in rare start
Berroa went 1-for-4 with a walk, two runs scored, an RBI and two stolen bases in the second game of Monday's doubleheader against the Orioles.
The 25-year-old switch hitter got the start in right field and hit ninth in the nightcap, and he took full advantage of the opportunity. Berroa has seen only 16 plate appearances in the majors this season, mainly getting deployed as a pinch runner or late-inning defensive sub, but he does have four steals in five attempts. The Blue Jays' acquisition of Joey Loperfido on Monday puts another outfielder between Berroa and more consistent playing time.

George Springer DH | TOR
Blue Jays' George Springer: On base five times in twin bill
Springer went 2-for-7 with three walks, two runs scored, an RBI and a stolen base across both games of Monday's doubleheader split with the Orioles.
The veteran outfielder was busiest in the nightcap, reaching base four times and swiping his 13th bag of the season in an 8-4 win. Springer is slashing .273/.340/.511 through 23 games in July with five homers, five steals, 16 RBI and 17 runs -- a stunning turnaround considering he entered the month with a .644 OPS.

Mark Canha LF | TEX
Tigers' Mark Canha: Not in lineup Tuesday
Canha is not in the lineup for Tuesday's game versus the Guardians, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.
Canha is a good bet to be dealt before Tuesday's trade deadline, so it's not a surprise to see his name absent from the Tigers' lineup card. Detroit will go with Justyn-Henry Malloy in left field and Colt Keith in the designated-hitter spot.

Wilyer Abreu RF | BOS
Red Sox's Wilyer Abreu: RBI in five striaght
Abreu went 2-for-5 with a double, two RBI and two runs scored in Monday's 14-7 win over the Mariners.
Abreu had what may have been the key at-bat early in the contest. He worked a full count and fouled off several pitches before delivering a two-run single on the 12th offering as part of Boston's seven-run third inning. It was the fifth consecutive game with an RBI for Abreu, who is 6-for-14 with six RBI during that span. With runners in scoring position, Abreu his hitting .328 with a .920 OPS.

Romy Gonzalez DH | BOS
Red Sox's Romy Gonzalez: Homers in blowout win
Gonzalez entered Monday's game as a pinch hitter and went 1-for-1 with a walk, a home run and two RBI in a 14-7 win over Seattle.
The Red Sox were cruising in the middle innings when manager Alex Cora decided to give Rafael Devers a break, sending up Gonzalez to hit. The pinch hitter belted a two-run home run and then finished off the game at third base. Gonzalez has hit well since the All-Star break, going 10-for-29 (.345) with five extra-base hits, two steals and five runs scored. He's typically in the lineup against left-handers, getting starts at first base or moving about the infield.

Josh H. Smith LF | TOR
Rangers' Josh Smith: Moves to leadoff
Smith hit leadoff and started at third base in Monday's 6-3 win over St. Louis, going 2-for-4 with a run scored.
Smith was in the field at third base even though Josh Jung was activated off the 60-day injured list Monday. While that was surprising, so was Smith's slotting in the leadoff spot while Marcus Semien was dropped to third in the order. Texas manager Bruce Bochy told Kennedi Landry of MLB.com that the tweaked batting order was in relation to Jung's return. It's unclear if more tweaks are expected once Jung is in the starting lineup, or if the changes will be reflected against both right-handed and left-handed starters.
