  • Giants' Will Brennan: Demoted to Triple-A

The Giants optioned Brennan to Triple-A Sacramento on Sunday. Just one day after being called up to the big club, Brennan will wind up heading back to Sacramento. The Giants weren't eager to give him a regular run of at-bats in the outfield, and the left-handed-hitting Brennan wouldn't have offered much value in a bench role since he couldn't be platooned with either Drew Gilbert or Jung Hoo Lee. Brennan was swapped off the 26-man active roster in favor of Jonah Cox, who was called up from Double-A Richmond and should be a more useful bench piece due to his right-handedness and ability to play all three outfield spots.

  • Giants' Will Brennan: Back in big leagues

The Giants recalled Brennan from Triple-A Sacramento on Saturday. After being sent to Triple-A on Friday, Brennan will turn right back around and rejoin the active roster as an injury replacement for Harrison Bader (foot). Brennan has gone just 2-for-23 at the plate in the majors this season and will likely work primarily as an outfield depth piece.

  • Giants' Will Brennan: Optioned to Triple-A

The Giants optioned Brennan to Triple-A Sacramento on Friday. Brennan has managed to go just 2-for-23 during his limited opportunities with the Giants. The club did not announce a corresponding roster move, but it's possible Jung Hoo Lee (back) returns from the IL for this weekend's series in Colorado.

  • Giants' Will Brennan: Recalled from Sacramento

The Giants recalled Brennan from Triple-A Sacramento on Saturday. With Heliot Ramos (quad) landing on the injured list Saturday, Brennan will come up from Triple-A to fill the void in San Francisco's outfield unit. The 28-year-old has gone 0-for-9 at the plate in the big leagues so far this year but is slashing .341/.374/.451 through 92 plate appearances at Sacramento.

  • Giants' Will Brennan: Returning to Triple-A

The Giants optioned Brennan to Triple-A Sacramento on Monday. The Giants needed space on the roster after recalling both Jesus Rodriguez and Bryce Eldridge from Triple-A, resulting in Brennan going down to the minors and Jerar Encarnacion being designated for assignment in corresponding moves. Brennan appeared in just five games for the Giants since being recalled in mid-April and went 0-for-9 with two strikeouts across those outings. He'll get more reps in Triple-A, where he is slashing .400/.396/.560 with one home run and 10 RBI in 54 plate appearances.

  • Giants' Will Brennan: Receives call-up to majors

The Giants recalled Brennan from Triple-A Sacramento on Wednesday. With Jared Oliva (wrist) and Harrison Bader (hamstring) landing on the injured list, Brennan and Drew Gilbert will move up to the majors to bolster the Giants' outfield depth.

  • Giants' Will Brennan: Dispatched to Triple-A

The Giants optioned Brennan to Triple-A Sacramento on Tuesday, Shayna Rubin of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. Brennan's .325/.386/.500 slash line through 44 plate appearances in the Cactus League made a strong case for him to break camp with the big club, but he'll ultimately head back to the minors to begin the year. The 28-year-old outfielder has routinely batted above .300 at the Triple-A level and could earn a spot on the Giants' bench if he continues to swing a hot bat.

  • Giants' Will Brennan: Logs RBI in spring loss

Brennan started at center field and went 1-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored in Saturday's 8-7 Cactus League loss to the Diamondbacks. After reaching base on a fielder's choice in the second inning and coming around to score, Brennan added an RBI single in the third but was caught trying to steal second. Through 15 Cactus League outings, he's recorded eight runs scored, six RBI and four home runs while slashing .379/.455/.483 across 33 plate appearances. Following an injury-riddled 2025 campaign in which he underwent Tommy John surgery in June and sports hernia surgery in September, the 28-year-old outfielder signed a major-league deal with San Francisco in mid-February. The left-handed hitter is expected to operate as the Giants' fourth outfielder this season.

  • Will Brennan: Hits free agency

Brennan (elbow) was non-tendered by the Guardians on Friday, Paul Hoynes of The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports. Brennan had an injury-plagued 2025 season, managing a total of only 159 plate appearances between both Triple-A and the majors. He's rehabbing from Tommy John surgery but has a chance to be ready for the start of spring training.

  • Guardians' Will Brennan: Back from IL

Brennan (elbow) was activated from the injured list Thursday, Tim Stebbins of MLB.com reports. Brennan underwent sports hernia surgery in September, which was about three months after he required Tommy John surgery. His recovery time from the elbow procedure is much shorter as a position player, so he could be ready for the start of spring training.

  • Guardians' Will Brennan: Undergoes sports hernia surgery

Brennan (elbow) recently underwent sports hernia surgery, Tim Stebbins of MLB.com reports. Brennan is still rehabbing from Tommy John surgery but felt some nagging discomfort in his groin while doing sprinting and agility drills. He remains on track to be ready for the start of spring training next year.

  • Guardians' Will Brennan: Second straight start in RF

Brennan will start in right field and bat eighth in Tuesday's game versus the Brewers. Brennan has now started two straight contests in right field after being recalled from Triple-A Columbus on Monday. Angel Martinez sat at Brennan's expense Monday, and on Tuesday, Nolan Jones will hit the bench.

  • Guardians' Will Brennan: Roster spot not confirmed

Brennan may not make the Guardians' Opening Day roster after the team acquired Nolan Jones from Colorado via a trade Saturday, Paul Hoynes of the Cleveland Plain Dealer reports. Brennan appeared headed for a platoon role in right field with Jhonkensy Noel -- and was informed he'd made the team earlier last week by manager Stephen Vogt -- but Saturday's acquisition of the left-handed hitting Jones throws Brennan's roster status up in the air. "No final decisions have been made," Vogt said. "We just have to work through some things over the next few days. This was unforeseen." That Jones is out of options and can't be sent to the minors while Brennan has options indicates the latter may open the regular season at Triple-A Columbus.

  • Guardians' Will Brennan: Still in line to make roster

Brennan is still in line to make the Guardians' Opening Day roster despite a slow spring training, Mandy Bell and Tim Stebbins of MLB.com reports. Brennan has struggled each of the last two seasons with OPS marks of .655 and .697, respectively. Even after logging only six hits across 24 at-bats in the spring this season -- only one of which has gone for extra bases -- he is still projected to make the roster and split reps with Jhonkensy Noel in right field. Brennan would provide a contact-heavy profile at the plate from the left side, while Noel should provide more pop with more strikeouts.

  • Guardians' Will Brennan: Sitting for Game 5

Brennan isn't in the Guardians' lineup Saturday for Game 5 of the ALCS versus the Yankees, Zack Meisel of The Athletic reports. The lefty-hitting Brennan will take a seat Saturday as the Yankees prepare to send the lefty-throwing Carlos Rodon to the mound to start Game 5. Jhonkensy Noel will start in right field while batting sixth.

  • Guardians' Will Brennan: Absent from Game 3 lineup

Brennan isn't in the Guardians' lineup Thursday for Game 3 of the ALCS against the Yankees, Chris Assenheimer of the Elyria Chronicle-Telegram reports. Brennan will get a chance to regroup Thursday after starting the postseason just 1-for-10 at the plate. While he sits, Daniel Schneemann will take over in right field and bat sixth versus New York righty Clarke Schmidt.

  • Guardians' Will Brennan: Sitting for Game 5

Brennan isn't in the Guardians' starting lineup Saturday for Game 5 of the ALDS against the Tigers, Zack Meisel of The Athletic reports. The lefty-hitting Brennan will begin Saturday's contest on the bench while southpaw Tarik Skubal starts on the mound for Detroit. Jhonkensy Noel will get the starting nod in right field instead and bat sixth.

  • Guardians' Will Brennan: Out of lineup again in Game 2

Brennan is not in the lineup Monday for Game 2 of the ALDS against the Tigers, Zack Meisel of The Athletic reports. With southpaw Tarik Skubal on the bump for the Tigers, the left-handed hitting Brennan will begin the contest on the bench. He didn't start against lefty opener Tyler Holton in Game 1, either, nor did he enter versus any of the three righties the Tigers used after Holton. Jhonkensy Noel is getting the call again in right field for the Guardians.

  • Guardians' Will Brennan: Delivers three hits in loss

Brennan went 3-for-4 with two doubles and two runs scored in Saturday's 4-3 loss to the Astros. Brennan has gone 12-for-26 (.462) over his last 10 games, filling a part-time role in the outfield for the Guardians. He got a leadoff look Saturday with Steven Kwan resting now that Cleveland has clinched a spot in the ALDS. Brennan is at a .264/.309/.388 slash line, eight home runs, 30 RBI, 37 runs scored, 13 doubles and four stolen bases over 114 contests. He's likely to be a strong-side platoon option for the postseason.

  • Guardians' Will Brennan: Out of lineup again Thursday

Brennan is absent from the lineup for Thursday's game versus the Twins. For the second straight day, the Guardians have gone with Jhonkensy Noel in right field over Brennan against a right-handed pitcher. Brennan came off the bench to deliver a game-tying RBI single in the 10th inning of Wednesday's win over the Twins, so it's possible he'll make another mid-game appearance Thursday.
