  • Angels' Ryan Zeferjahn: Worst outing of spring

Zeferjahn went two-thirds of an inning, allowing three runs, courtesy of two long balls, on four hits while walking one batter in a 7-7 tie against the Dodgers on Monday.

Zeferjahn appeared in eight games this spring for the Angels, posting a 5.23 ERA in 10.1 innings. The right-hander, who made 12 appearances in 2024, completed his first full season with a 4.74 ERA and 73 strikeouts in 62 appearances for Los Angeles in 2025. The 28-year-old will likely be in the mix for high-leverage opportunities immediately given the bullpen depth has been gravely impacted by injuries to Kirby Yates (knee inflammation), Ben Joyce (shoulder surgery rehab), both of whom require stints on the 15-day injured list to begin the new campaign, and Robert Stephenson (elbow), who was placed on the 60-day injured list Tuesday.

  • Clarke Schmidt SP | NYY

Yankees' Clarke Schmidt: Could face hitters in April

Schmidt (elbow) is tentatively slated to begin throwing bullpens before the end of March and could face hitters in April or May, per MLB.com.

Schmidt did some throwing during spring training but primarily threw off flat round. He seems to be doing fine in his recovery from the internal brace procedure he underwent last July, though the right-hander isn't expected to be ready to rejoin the Yankees until the second half of the season.

  • Cody Laweryson RP | MIN

Twins' Cody Laweryson: Added to roster

The Twins selected Laweryson's contract from Triple-A St. Paul on Wednesday.

Laweryson won a spot in the Twins' bullpen after posting a 1.17 ERA and 7:1 K:BB in 7.2 innings this spring as a non-roster invitee. The 27-year-old will be part of an unsettled relief corps in Minnesota, giving him a chance to pitch his way into leveraged appearances.

  • Josh Hader RP | HOU

Astros' Josh Hader: Officially placed on injured list

The Astros placed Hader (biceps) on the 15-day injured list Wednesday.

Hader resumed mound work in early March but has not made an appearance in a game since he was diagnosed with left biceps tendinitis in early February. The southpaw is sure to require a rehab assignment before rejoining Houston's active roster. Bryan Abreu will be the Astros' closer while Hader is sidelined.

  • Cody Bradford RP | TEX

Rangers' Cody Bradford: Placed on injured list

The Rangers placed Bradford (elbow) on the 15-day injured list Wednesday.

Bradford is still working his way back from an internal brace procedure he had last June. The left-hander is expected to be ready for a rehab assignment soon and is looking at a potential season debut around May 1.

  • Nate Pearson RP | HOU

Astros' Nate Pearson: Goes on 15-day IL

The Astros placed Pearson (elbow) on the 15-day injured list Wednesday.

Pearson had to be shut down in early March after feeling soreness in his surgically repaired right elbow. It's not clear whether he's resumed throwing, and even if he has he's surely looking at longer than a minimum stay on the IL.

  • Royals' James McArthur: Out with elbow inflammation

The Royals placed McArthur (elbow) on the 15-day injured list Wednesday.

McArthur had surgery last offseason to insert two screws into his right elbow to help stabilize a stress fracture and then had another procedure in July to remove the screws after they had caused an allergic reaction. The Royals are calling his injury elbow inflammation, and it's unclear when he might be ready for his season debut.

  • Jeremy Pena SS | HOU

Astros' Jeremy Pena: All clear for Opening Day

The Astros announced Wednesday that Pena (finger) will be part of their Opening Day roster, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.

Pena fractured his right ring finger in early March and was held out of game action until playing in an exhibition contest Tuesday. The 28-year-old slugged a home run in that game and appears ready to roll for Thursday's opener against the Angels. Pena is set to start at shortstop and bat leadoff for Houston this season.

  • Red Sox's Garrett Whitlock: Impressive in loss

Whitlock threw a perfect inning while striking out one batter in a 9-6 loss against Minnesota on Monday.

Whitlock appeared in four games this spring for Boston, allowing zero earned runs in four innings pitched. The right-hander also made four appearances for Team USA in the World Baseball Classic, allowing just one earned run in 3.1 innings. The 29-year-old posted a career-best 31 percent strikeout rate while putting up a 2.25 ERA for Boston in 2025. Whitlock will once again serve as a high-leverage arm for a Boston bullpen that still features Aroldis Chapman and Greg Weissert but a mix of unproven arms after that.

  • Red Sox's Anthony Seigler: Shelved with knee tendinopathy

Boston placed Seigler on the 10-day injured list Wednesday due to left knee patellar tendinopathy.

Acquired from the Brewers on Feb. 9, Seigler didn't end up making any appearances in spring training while recovering from a knee injury that first surfaced while he played in the Dominican Winter League during the offseason. The Red Sox haven't indicated where Seigler stands in his recovery, so the 26-year-old appears destined to miss more than the minimum 10 days. Seigler has two minor-league options remaining and could be sent out to Triple-A Worcester to play regularly once he's activated from the IL.
