Rays' Justin Sterner: Cleared for return

Triple-A Durham reinstated Sterner (undisclosed) from the 7-day injured list Thursday.

Sterner went about one month between appearances due to an unspecified injury, though he looked electric in his first game back Friday against Triple-A Columbus. The 28-year-old right-hander fanned three batters in a perfect inning and now owns a 3.67 ERA with 48 strikeouts across 41.2 frames this season with Durham.

White Sox's Nicky Lopez: Sitting against lefty

Lopez is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Guardians.

  • Gavin Sheets 1B | SD

White Sox's Gavin Sheets: Idle against lefty

Sheets is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Guardians.

  • White Sox's Dominic Fletcher: Hitting bench vs. southpaw

Fletcher is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Guardians.

Fletcher will take a seat along with fellow left-handed hitters Gavin Sheets and Nicky Lopez while southpaw Joey Cantillo takes the hill for the Guardians. Corey Julks will replace Fletcher in right field and will bat leadoff.

  • Kyle Manzardo 1B | CLE

Guardians' Kyle Manzardo: On bench against lefty

Manzardo is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the White Sox.

  • Guardians' Daniel Schneemann: Going to bench Monday

Schneemann is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the White Sox.

With a lefty (Jared Shuster) opening the game for the White Sox, the lefty-hitting Schneemann will begin the contest on the bench, though he could be used once a right-hander enters from the bullpen. Schneemann had been included in the lineup in four of the previous five contests, making two starts in center field, one at shortstop and one at third base.

  • Anthony Rendon 3B | LAA

Angels' Anthony Rendon: Expected back Tuesday

Angels manager Ron Washington said Monday that he expects Rendon (back) to return to the lineup Tuesday, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports.

He's out of the lineup for a second straight contest Monday due to left side back soreness, but Washington said holding Rendon out is a precautionary measure. The veteran third baseman is slashing an anemic .218/.307/.267 over 238 plate appearances this season.

  • MJ Melendez DH | NYM

Royals' MJ Melendez: Sitting vs. lefty

Melendez is not in the starting lineup for Monday's game against the Yankees.

Melendez will begin Monday's contest on the bench with the Yankees sending left-hander Carlos Rodon to the mound. Tommy Pham, Garrett Hampson and Hunter Renfroe will make up the Royals' starting outfield in the series opener.

  • Kyle Isbel CF | KC

Royals' Kyle Isbel: Sitting vs. lefty

Isbel is absent from Monday's lineup against the Yankees.

Isbel will avoid a matchup with Yankees southpaw Carlos Rodon. Garrett Hampson will start in center field Monday and bat ninth.

  • Paul DeJong SS | DET

Royals' Paul DeJong: Absent from lineup

DeJong is not in the starting lineup for Monday's game against the Yankees.

DeJong has gone 3-for-26 with one home run and 13 strikeouts over his last eight games, so he'll begin Monday's game on the bench while he's slumping at the plate. Maikel Garcia will check in for DeJong at third base and will bat seventh.
